I'm terrible with favorites, but I'd probably pick something Ghibli. Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa being near the tippy-top.

Since I'm seeing a lot of people recommend series as well as movies... Have you ever seen Golden Boy? It's hilarious.

Other stuff I'd suggest: Hellsing, Mushishi, Great Teacher Onizuka, Higurashi/Umineko When They Cry, Record of Lodoss War, Baccano!, Cromartie High School, Slayers, Sorcerer Hunters, Getbackers.

Hopefully there's something in there you haven't seen! I tried to leave out the most painfully obvious recommendations (which is probably most of what I've seen, since I'm kind of a casual when it comes to anime and barely watch any these days).

I have not seen many Japanese films, so I can not mention one. But if we remain in Asia / territorial / then I can definitely mention Korean film Going by the Book. It was great watch.

Thank you for the share Kordarus:)

You know about viki.com right? There you can legally watch movies and serials - mainly from Asia.

Either The Tale of Princess Kaguya for its spectacular visuals or Mobile Police Patlabor 2 for being overall excellent.

...Honorable mention goes to JIN, a drama. Weird fetus aside, it's a touching time-travelling story.

I'll be honest, I haven't exactly seen a lot of Japanese films, at least that I can remember. I've seen "Seven Samurai" since it's considered a classic, so I guess I'd have to go with that.

Oh, and thanks for the giveaway!

Movie probably Spirited Away and series Cowboy Bebop. I know that it's animated, but i didn't watch anything non-animated for Japan, although i plan to watch everything from Kurosawa when I find some time.

Well, it depends of the genre you like, but in any case i strongly recommend kokuhaku, audition and I saw the devil (the last one is not japanese, but what the hell, is a great film too).
