Description

Oh, hey, you found it! Congratulations!

This game is pretty good, but I still haven't finished it. :( Every time I remember it's still installed, I play a bit and then stop to do something else. Then I forget to go back to it. Oh well.

So here's a dumb question. Since you obviously like visual novels, or you wouldn't be entering this giveaway... :)

What sort of visual novel do you prefer? The kind that's just reading, with maybe a choice between ending A or B? Or do you like "doing things" i.e. mini-games, stats to raise, inventory, a world to travel around, and so on? Just curious... :)

Good luck! :)

p.s. Ok, so if you noticed the URL from the puzzle, no, Steam doesn't sell Littlewitch Romanesque: Editio Perfecta. A bit of googling should solve that mystery, but it's a mystery you probably don't want to solve at work...

The ones with a lots of boobs ofc ^_^

Aha, in that case you might be disappointed, depending on which of the characters you like... It's not wall to wall boobies like the Sakura games... :)

Good luck! :)

Yeah, but I guess the puzzle is too difficult somehow... Or maybe people keep trying "Pervert!" :)

Guess nobody thinks to look at the keys, or they don't realise how many unlikely combinations of letters you can find if you buy all the bundles... :)

Good luck! :)

as for your question, I am investing quite a lot of hours in Gal*Gun Double Peace. Sure, initially I was mainly considering the ecchi factor, but then I got caught in the story, in having high scores and trying to find all of those secret endings. Made me feel like I was part of a sort of anime, like I'd be Keima from "The World God Only Knows" series.

Sure, it wouldn't be the first time I got caught by the narrative (and feels), that other example that comes through my head is when I tried Katawa Shoujo.

Hmm, looks like I have Gal*Gun too, still haven't installed it. :( Hmm, is that the one where you have to shoot the girls with your magic powers or something?

I was going to ask if that's the game where all the girls fall in love with you, but of course that's all the games... :)

Wonder what other good games in my library I'm forgetting to play, but of course that's all the games too... :( Oh well.

Good luck! :)

Yeah, that's the game. All the girls love you because (spoiler from the first 5 minutes of intro) you get hit by a denser cupid shot as a usual human should, 36 time more powerful I think and you need to decide on your chosen one, in that day, or else you will never be loved ever again Yeah, the premise is quite silly, but I like it regardless. Fully voiced, well animated and I sure missed these kind of shooters, I remember playing House of The Dead or this game I attached the picture but can't remember the name of.

I soon learned that not all the games in my library are good (or even functional), I made a special category in my library as myanimelist has of games Completed and games Dropped.

Aha, why don't I install that Gal*Gun game now, so tomorrow there's a chance I will notice and remember to try it... Good luck, brain! :)

Hmm, after a little searching I was going to say it's probably Virtua Cop something or other, one of those old lightgun games, so I come back to this tab and right there on the screen it says Virtua Cop... :)

Good thing I don't have to solve my own puzzles, I'd never make it... :)

Hmm, Steam library categories... Looks like most of mine would be "intends to play it some day, even if only to see what it is, but somehow or other never will." :)

the curse of being popular and having many people wanting to talk to you, can't say I relate :)) but, hey, the game once installed won't go anywhere and does not have a problem waiting for you, even if you forget about it, so there's that.

I wouldn't call it popularity, but this is one of those times I'm almost grateful for all the giveaway entering bots - it's murder replying just to the 1% or so of humans writing real comments. :)

The days when every auto-entering bot would also write some inane generic thanks, ugh I'm glad that's over... :) Guess some script changed its default to enter without saying anything. :)

you sure hold some serious grudge against the bots overlords, did they do something horrible to you in the past and have sworn vengeance on their botkind?

Oh, I'm just remembering the times when in every giveaway you'd see dozens of thanksbots. I just couldn't think of enough different ways to say "no problem, good luck" without getting all snarky...

I don't think anyone cares any more, and I forget the details, but once upon a time "comment ratio" was a thing. So the more comments you wrote, the better, I guess. Thus the auto-commenting giveaway entering bots - free games with zero effort, and as a bonus you look like an actual member of the community. Yay.

I'd prefer that only humans enter giveaways, but that ship has sailed... So given the choice between silent bots and auto-thanking bots, I'm happy that nowadays most of the bots are silent. If that makes any sense. :)

If I hadn't played a bit of this game, I'd probably not recognise the picture either... :) Just too much random stuff in my library... :(

I'd like to play all my visual novels, but without making a schedule and forcing myself it will probably never happen. And I think making it an obligation would kill the fun - like forcing children to read great books, I guess. For most of them, I think the only result is creating another generation of kids who hate to read... Oh well...

Good luck in some other giveaway, someday... :)

You've been on my whitelist for a while (as in a very long time) was wondering why I never saw you around so went to spy on your profile :P think I know why, 9k+ so nice!

Even if I would have played it, my illness puts my memory in such a way I would probably still not recognize it :P but that's ok ^^ I'm used to it.
Well yes, I try to play all my games and only give up if it's really a trash game like some that god knows how got through greenlight >.< but sometimes I feel to sick to play and then I crawl in my own little world and go into those addictive idle's cause they do not require that much energy.
When I do have the energy I love VN and HOG's the most! But I do try to play all genres.
Overall I like'm all, I adore horror but oh for the love of god how some made me spoop my pants.
I even streamed horror occasionally and got trolls donating a dollar every x amount of time. Double the spoops! Brrr!

Heh you remind me I haven't read a book in ... hmm I can't even remember how long it was. But I should pick up with that again too. There's nothing that can beat your own fantasy when you drawn in a book and fully sink into the story. I started Dr. Sleep from Stephen King, the following on the Shinning when the kiddo grew up to be a adult. But I'm not sure why, but it's laying on my night stand, like it never came from it again.

And once again thank you :3 and likewise, I truly hope to see you win one of mine some day! <3
That would be awesomesauces!

Somehow greenlight sounded like such a great idea, but... I guess it's some law of unintended consequences... :) I think what we had before was pretty bad, with all the indie game developers unable to convince someone at Valve their game was worthy of being on Steam, but somehow the solution created an even bigger problem... :)

Oh, hmm, I guess if we're all just looking for cheap +1s greenlight was great, but for those poor souls who use Steam to play games... :)

Actually, I wonder how normal people even find games on Steam any more... No matter what genre you're looking for, there's a small pile of "real" ones buried somewhere inside a mountain of greenlight garbage... :) Maybe you have to sort by price, expensive games first? :)

I'm not a big fan of scary games, although I did read a lot of Stephen King books years ago... Didn't always enjoy the messy bits but I thought the books were so good I couldn't stop reading... Oh well... :) Hmmm, didn't know he wrote a sequel to the Shining, that's interesting. I should probably take a look at that one, thought the Shining was great... I remember long ago after seeing the Shining movie, and someone told me yeah that's a great movie, but the book is even better, and I thought hmm, I dunno, that movie was really good... :) Of course, once I finally read the book I discovered they were right. :)

Had to watch my niece play Amnesia & the Pig Machine one, think I would have noped right out of there on my own... :) Oh, I did play Anna myself, and got the achievement for giving up before anything scary happened. :) Yay! :)

Aha, that would be fun, but it might be difficult since I haven't won any games in a while... But thank you! :)

I mainly wonder with the new system how it will be now. The euh what was it called again, steam direct?
I never minded cheap games or +1's but as a achievement hunter it sometimes broke my heart a little bit some cheap stuff got abandon and achievements or game play never got fixed or updated etc.

Find games? With such a big store.. is that still a option?
Heh well yes maybe tags or sorting does help a bit :3 or certain developers or publishers maybe...? Like telltale :3
As for library I went full insane and have about 73 categories made by hand atm to sort games in xD But I still have more then half to sort, maybe even 3/4 to sort, I lost track after a week intensive sorting. Oh for the love of god, what a drag. But for the better games it is worth it to find them back fast. which looks like: this

Well I never noticed the messy bits even in his books o_O he can suck me in his story that hard I am there, that I can almost feel and smell the persons, the surrounding etc.
I know it sounds weird, but some writers have the gift to do that.
In most cases the book is better then the movie.
For the shinning, to think that kid is now a main persona in a book, after so many years.
I really should pick it up again and hope it is just as good as the shinning was.

Hmm don't think I've played either (yet) but one day, one day when I feel well enough and have a bit more energy I think I'll active game more real games again then the idlers I'm addicted too atm.
I dislike to admit I'm to sick to game proper so I just say netflix on one screen and idle games on the other go hand in hand as a excuse :P I'll never admit my idle addiction!

Well never say never of course! toes crossed as we need our fingers to type hehe xD

Wow, categories, interesting picture... Probably took a lot of work, and you have to update it with every new game? Ouch... :) I used to categorise my Steam games for a while, until one day I decided to try this "depressurizer" thing, and managed to nuke everything. :( It probably even warned me to make a backup first... :)

So I gave up, and let it do the categories for me. Which means now I can never find anything. :) If I played games more often I'd be very frustrated, but fortunately categories don't matter if all you do is buy them and idle them for trading cards... :( Oh well. :)

I always feel a bit guilty talking about books, since it reminds me how much I used to read, and how much I don't read now... Fortunately nobody can see my book backlog, or if I was just idling that stack of books for the trading cards... :)

Think of it what you'd like, but the first thing I noticed when looking at the keys was the secret password :3 mandatory "Flat is Justice!"
By the way, I didn't try any of them, because other than being pretty sure they must have been gone in a few seconds, I'm not like those people who instantly start drooling over any random key drop, I want to keep some form of quality control in my library, I won't try to redeem a key if I don't know beforehand which game it'd activate (nor am I desperate enough to snatch a free key just to farm a few 3-cents cards).
Yes, I do realize that "Games: 1117" makes it look like the opposite, but actually the amount of junk in there is minimal.

So, I obviously like visual novels, like most weebs (I know a few who don't, but they're pretty much the minority), although I'm no know-it-all.
As for what sort of VNs do I like, well... I'm open to try basically anything, I don't mind if it's kinetic (no choices) or an actual visual novel with lots of endings, as long as it's got a good story and/or characters I can relate to, and that I'll remember long after playing.
One such example which I'm currently playing is Root Double from the recent Humble Sekai Bundle (which I bought mainly for this game).

Mind that my definition of "good story" is kinda loose, it could refer to an actual good story, but also to cute, heartwarming (and possibly a bit fanservicey) stuff which most would consider subpar at best (example: Nekopara, Karakara).
Likewise, "good characters" sometimes means "cute (preferably flat chested) girls"

Then there's the issue of censorship, which is a plague in the weeb games industry - the game you're giving away right now is no exception.
As a rule of thumb, I'm not too keen on owning censored games on Steam, unless there's a patch available somewhere, or the cut content is not story relevant anyway (eden* is a good example, only a few fanservicey CGs near the end were cut, and they added nothing to the story).

For the most heavily censored stuff, I'd rather buy the original, uncut versions elsewhere (and actually own them unlike on Steam).
For those interested, there's a patch available for this game, although it's in a very unstable alpha state.
Links in this informative review by the Cut-Content Police curator: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/10576967-Cut-Content-Police/?appid=349300

By the way, I noticed something: this giveaway will end just 5 hours before your coupon expires.
Considering the inability to store gifts (thanks to Valve), you might not be able to send it in time if you and the winner don't happen to be online simultaneously during this 5-hours window, unless you were already friends beforehand.
So, as a safety buffer, I'd suggest to close the thread a day or so before it ends, and start sending friend requests to entrants.

Aha, I wasn't sure how many people would "get" the secret giveaway password, since if you ask google it means about 50 different things... :) I guess in this context it's obvious, if you already know... :) Oh well...

Sounds like you're an expert on Steam visual novel stuff, especially the patching and the missing pieces... :) Hmmm, I didn't even know that curator existed, will have to read it later today... :)

Yeah, stupid Valve. :( If I were clever I'd have made the giveaway end sooner, so I'll have to hope no rerolls are required... :) Hmm, suppose I could email the gift to myself, change it to the winner's email address, and give it to them in a chat window. Think I read somewhere they have 30 days to accept the gift before I get automatically refunded/screwed...

Thank you, and good luck! :)

Had to run before, didn't write much, felt bad... :)

Hmmm, I was going to say what type of visual novel this is, with the rolling dice and the spells and stuff, but you probably know that stuff already, or could just look it up. :) It's fun, and I assume there are several different endings but I haven't actually seen one yet, guess I mentioned that up in the giveaway description though... :) This giveaway is making me want to load a save and try again, though... :)

It's a pity, but somehow the better the game, the less likely I'll finish it... All the lazy boobie games with zero/minimal choices and a garbage story, I can next right to the end of those. But if there's a good story, and I have to read and think, and replay it looking for different endings, somehow it's never going to happen... :( I can't resist buying them, but... Doubt I'll ever finish the Steam version of Clannad, for just one example. :(

Oh, that reminds me, I bought that Groupees bundle with Steins;Gate in it, but since it's not on Steam I can't even remember it's there. :( And I read somewhere that instead of boobies, it's the translation that's better. Weird... :)

Hmm, surprised there aren't more entries, maybe that thread needs a bump, or maybe I need to add more keys with a bigger HINT, or maybe I should have put it in the puzzle category... Oh well... :)

Don't know if it's liking math as much as buying so many crappy bundles that I get a lot of extra keys for silly stuff like this. :) Been trying it for a while, and it seems people are in such a hurry to get a free game that they never bother to look at the keys themselves. :) Even with a big HHH III NNN TTT staring them in the face... :) Oh well. :)

This game has "doing things" but it's not a lot of different things. There's a dice-rolling mini-game and a lot of different spells for the girls to learn, with a lot of opportunity cost to worry about, at least the first time through. I'm just guessing since I haven't finished it, but it's probably easier once you know what's connected to what, so to speak. Or just find a walkthrough I guess, that should work too. :)

Good luck! :)

It's difficult for me to pick between the two options you've presented, really. Child-me had a fondness both for "choose your own adventure" books, which I've always considered the former option to be a souped up version of, and for Princess Maker 2, a raising sim. Though I suppose some quite push how far you can go with the latter option and still be a VN. I just checked and people on Steam have even tagged one of the Neptunia games with "visual novel," which renders the line between VN and "RPG with long, dialogue-heavy cutscenes" a bit blurry. I'll keep it conservative in that department however and only consider titles that would be more widely recognized as VNs. With that in mind, even with the aforementioned difficulty, I'd probably have to give a slight edge to the "doing things" sort of VN. Dependent on individual execution, of course. So long as it's pulled off well, it can break things up a bit and help keep the experience of the narrative feeling fresh and engaging.

That said, I can still enjoy a kinetic novel just fine, so it's nothing absolute.

Crap, that's what I forgot to buy in the Summer Sale! Those Princess Maker games! :( Had them in my cart with a bunch of other stuff, but I waited so long the cart emptied out, had to add everything all over again. Of course I'd screw it up... :(

Sorry, just ignore that part... :)

There are a fair amount of actual "choose your own adventure" type games on Steam, but of course with the tag system you also get random nonsense too. Behold: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?tags=4486 :)

Hmm, I guess you could call Bioware games visual novels, if you turn on God Mode or something to skip all the RPGing (and lately, all the Ubisofting) ... :) There's probably a way to watch them all on youtube with the rpg parts cut out, but I'm too lazy to investigate... :)

This particular game's got "doing things" but it's mostly doing thing, i.e. there's just the one dice-rolling game, which gives you the resources to do the other stuff. There's no wandering around a city map or choosing who to talk to or whatever. But you have to choose what spells to learn, which unlocks different spells and events and who knows what else... And there's a timer ticking down so you can't just do everything. Feels like the sort of game where you'd need to take good notes or just give up and read a walkthrough... :)

Good luck! :)

I usually ignore keys since I don't want to add anything to my library unless I know what it is (and that I'll like it). For the same reason, I am very cautious about adding games to my wishlist. I only have two games on Steam that are/were "duds." One of them I bought by accident thinking it was a different game, the other one I pre-ordered. (That was a huge mistake.) Since then, I'm quite picky about what I add to by library.

Anyway, after spending entirely too much time decrypting the keys (I removed all instances of D, F, and C), I finally decided to just try "DFC.". Duh. Some of the things that tripped me up before your tip were:

  • had to try "password," of course
  • the bold on "in seven days" and "a giveaway" ---> your Children of the Seven Stars giveaway --> Planescape posting
  • the first letter of every line in your post

Aha, I think several people have pointed out elsewhere that they ignore free keys, don't even look at them. So maybe I should feel bad hiding things in them, not sure... :) I was hoping the HINT would be big enough to suggest looking at those keys, but since you have to look at the keys to see the hint, it's catch-22... :( As some people know, I've been hiding things inside "piles of free keys" for a while now, mainly because it's easy to do if you have enough bundle leftovers... :)

Sorry about that... :) I think stevencojo and some other people have mentioned being stumped by puzzles that were unexpectedly easy, too easy really, barely a puzzle at all. :) Like poor Gandalf trying to find the password to get into Moria, if that makes any sense. :)

It's just too much effort making real puzzles... Also, I'm not a fan of expecting people to discover the one arbitrary thing that matters, instead of the 5000 other equally plausible things that somehow don't matter... I believe "Guess what I'm thinking!" isn't a puzzle, it's just dumb. :)

Hmmm, I'll have to go back and check, hopefully I didn't accidentally spell something... :)

Oops, I was going to say good luck, but I guess this one wasn't exactly on your wishlist... :( Sorry you spent so much time on it, I'll have to hunt for a different coupon for next time... :) Good luck in some other giveaway! :)

I'd prefer good writing and story in VNs. More focused on novel side than visual side.. But ofc I don't mind boobs and girls as long as they are eye candies. I just hope they don't degrade the novel quality.

  • Combination of "in seven days" and "a giveaway"
  • Combination of the first letter of each line

(After got hint)

  • ALL Combination of "3DX8E-6M77N-TTHHH 4YH9N-5W0YF-6IIII DBRX2-RCXQV-WDNNN B6IQH-PQCPV-8HTTT" like "34DBDYB6XHRI89XQEN2H----65RPMWCQ70XC7YQPNFVV----T6W8TIDHHINTHINTHINT".. etc
  • Other combination of other key (include DFCDFCDFC..hmm don't notice it that time )

Well.. finally find it.

P-P-Pervert!

I like VNs with a good story, not much preference when it comes to kinetic novels or VNs with many choices to make. Although I admit it's almost always the art that draws me in first. I probably won't even look at the story if a VN has really shitty art XD

Anyway, thank for a super fun puzzle! And to answer your question, I would like a solid story with no choices at all. I feel like having a lot of branches and choices will never beat a good old one ending that you will be thinking about for days to come.

What about you tho?

P/s: the funny thing was because you mentioned "well, what is it!" So I tried good 3 hours just looking for Dark Souls reference haha

Aha, congratulations! :) Hmm, don't think it matters... :) Life's too short to worry about stuff like that. :)

Oho, there's a lot of choices in this one, not the lazy sort where you have to choose between "make boobie girl A love you" or "make boobie girl B love you" but hmmm, if you're the sort of person who gets paralysed when there's a lot of different possibilities, you might be stuck in this one. :)

Hmmmm, you need to teach girls spells to progress through the game, and sometimes it's explicitly stated which ones they need to learn to complete a quest, but often you're flying blind about what will be unlocked, or what possibilities will open up, etc. Guess I'd be able to explain it better if I'd actually finished the game, but... :)

Not sure if I have a preference, guess I'd have to think about it... I like to read books, but visual novels with only reading aren't as much fun for some reason... Probably because of reading faster than the characters are speaking - I don't want to skip half of the speaking part, but I don't want to just sit there waiting either. Oh well... :)

Aha, that part where it says "Oops, wrong game. Never mind!" was actually true, but I guess the way puzzles work you'd have no reason to believe me at that point. Sorry for three hours spent chasing a mirage... :( At least you got here, somehow! :)

Good luck! :)

so .. one done
wont enter though bc i dont have time to play atm anyway

and to answer the question
hm..
it depends a bit on my mood
i like many different kinds of games
and with VN
i sometimes enjoy "reading", so just A and B in between
but sometimes i rather prefer to "play"

well.. wasnt really helpful though, eh?

what do you prefer? :3

Aha, you found it, congratulations! :)

Yeah, this one would take a lot longer to play than the usual garbage visual novels I give away, so that's probably the best plan... Sorry about that... :)

Hmmmm, I'd have to say the same thing.. Sometimes like to read, sometimes like to do stuff. Oh, I'm definitely not a fan of those stat-raising games, though. They feel too much like a job instead of a game... :( I don't care about all these numbers, give me a story... :)

Good luck in some other giveaway! :)
