We have an Australianised version of the IRS one, where they leave a terse message about impending legal action and a police visit unless you ring a number to sort it out. I've had that one a few times, but what really annoys me is the "Windows Technical Department" or, more commonly, the "Technical Department of Telstra" (our formerly state-owned telecommunications utility that has a monopoly on the infrastructure), where they claim that your PC has a virus that is causing internet issues and they will have to disconnect you from the internet. They claim to be able to prove it by telling you to type in a command and reading what it says on the screen (so they can access your PC remotely). They still call me a few times a week, usually several times on Friday. I've spoken to them at least 150 times! There is nothing that can be done to avoid them other than disconnecting the landline.
