The game is fun. Ubisoft is unbelievably predatory.
For instance:
I hit level ten. Game tells me I have a 'Classified Assignment'. Go to the location, it makes me search the area to find the door, only for me to greeted with a pop-up that says 'Year 1 Pass holders only'.
Y'know what, I got this game on sale, I'm willing to drop a few more bucks. How much is it?
Well, I can't find out immediately because the in-game store won't link me to it. Huh. I Google it.
Year 1 pass isn't the same as the year 1 battle pass, which you can find old discussion on. The current battle pass does not unlock it. Buying the expansion doesn't unlock it. I cannot find a way to purchase it.
Turns out, you can't.
Do you have the standard edition of the game? Then you are locked out of content that is already in game. There is no option to upgrade to Ultimate. You have to buy the game again, the most expensive version.
Predatory. Ubisoft as a company should crash and burn. They are an embarassment.

Battle for brooklyn was released 2 days ago, so idk about that comment.

Yes ubisoft is bad but their games, specially the editions that contain dlc can be found dirt cheap. I've been buying their games for under 15€ all the time, most of the time i spend like 5-10€.

I took advantage of the epic games coupons back in the day to get most of the games cheaper than usual. Also they make (or made?) sales where games become massively discounted and you get a "bonus 5€" price reduction from your cart if you stacked like 15€ worth of games.

The Ultimate Edition they bought was the previous version before that DLC was made, so of course they would need to buy the new DLC. The the new Ultimate Edition would include the Brooklyn DLC. This is pretty normal when it comes to Game of the year, ultimate editions etc.

The Battle For Brooklyn DLC launches today in The Division 2, bringing a new narrative campaign with new missions, skill, Hunter riddles, an exotic gear piece, and more to discover. The DLC is included in the Gold Edition and new Ultimate Edition (which released April 23) , and is also available for standalone purchase in both Standard and Deluxe editions (requires the base game).

I suppose as there was no way to upgrade from standard to the (old) ultimate edition, it may be worth asking if there is a way to upgrade from the old ultimate package to the new one, or if it has to be bought in its entirety again.

Because for those who this kind of stonewalling would bother, it seems like a losing race.
Less the locking of content behind DLC, more than waving it in a players face by walking them to it as if it is available and then saying "nuh-uh!". Gonna be a sorespot. Sure as hell would have been for me.

How the hell is this "of course"?

I've already stated why it's "of course", but let me break it down further. Game of the year, Ultimate Editions etc. etc. normally include all of the DLC at the time of that particular launch and they don't normally include future DLCs unless it's stated.

That is totally not true. There are lots of games where Season Pass includes not-yet-released DLCs, and even if we ignore season passes: if something is called "Ultimate Edition", players are right to expect it to be an ultimate edition. Sure, you can call it semantics, but if someone bought the Ultimate Edition and they replaced it with another Ultimate Edition that includes more content than the previous Ultimate Edition - and that content is unavailable to the owners of the "old" Ultimate Edition, then that's a complete opposite of "of course".

I'm not sure what your experience is, but from mine, what I've mentioned it is true. Borderlands 2, Guild Wars, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Sid Meier's Civilization V, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, Tribes: Ascend, Titanfall 2, Mortal Kombat 11, Street Fighter 6 and Injustice 2 are some examples of this.

It should be automatic entry to existing owners. Games are high priced initially and rates come down later so someone who paid more money on same package now has less content than someone who bought it much cheaper later. How is that sensible. Hence I prefer to buy games much late at least a year or 2 down the line at minimum 75% discount. I no longer pre-order.

These are two totally different packages. The word Ultimate doesn't make it the end all be all.

The Ultimate Edition that came out in 2019 stated that what was included "The Year 1 Pass. A 3-days early access to the game. Also get bonus digital content: The Battleworn Secret Service Pack including the Secret service outfit, a rare quality emote, and exotic quality M4A1 Skin. The First Responder Pack, including a special outfit and weapon skin. The Elite Agent Pack, including an exotic Assault Rifle, an exclusive skill effect, and additional stash space." That's it, nothing past that and people knew that when they purchased it.

The Ultimate Edition that came out this year includes Warlords of New York Expansion, Battle for Brooklyn DLC, Level 40 Boost, 1,000 Bonus Premium Credits, Stash Space Increase and Instant Specialization Unlock: All six endgame specializations (e.g., Demolitionist, Sharpshooter, Survivalist) are unlocked from the start, bypassing the need to complete the necessary challenges.

I easily sank 150 hours into Division 2 in the past, and that's with rarely messing around in the Dark Zones. To me, the base game was a ton of fun w/o buying any extras. Although I did eventually buy Warlords, and that was cool even if it was a bit repetitive. For the base game, what happens is, once you finish the campaign, it basically resets, but with a more powerful adversary. NG+ if you will. IIRC, there were ten levels of this. For three bucks, and especially for gamers who love grinding to get better gear and such, 3 bucks is insane value. AND, if you have a group to play with, then the Dark Zones suddenly become awesome as well. W/o a group though, what I found is other groups would camp the extracts, which sucks for solo players. For groups though, it's a lot of fun.

Anyway, all my time was on PSN, which I probably will never log into again since I'm never going to buy another $ony (or M$) console, so this sale was a fantastic way to justify buying the game again with plans of revisiting it. Plus, they just released a new expansion which I'd like to play sometime.

Yes, absolutely worth it as a sp game.
No, PvP is contained within a specific zone which you must make a conscious decision to enter.

I played Division 1 a lot but never touched Division 2. I was told back then that Division 2 has Dark Zone separates PVP and PVE; wich was one of my major complains with Division 1 as a solo player who prefers to grind or help others, rather than hunt/outplay other players.

Is that true?, its Division 2 Dark Zone PVP and PVE separately so you don't overlap into one another?.

And how is that supposed to work? DZ without pvp? In D2 DZ is the same shit crap as in D1.
Also, if you have D1 then you have no reason to buy D2, it's the same game (but worse), just a cash grab.
There are still a ton of people playing D1, especially since Ubisoft added a global event for all of 2025.

The new gimmicks and gadgets is what would be the interesting point to try Division 2; tho Division1 have a much better atmosphere for what I had seen. I was just told Dark Zone made it better to divide PVP and PVE; like "you would NEVER have to engage in PVP if you did not want to while grinding DZ in D2". But given the responses, I see I was miss informed, thank you for the responses and glad I asked.

Forgot to menttion, I think I pretty much finished my builds in D1 without the DLC, its been a long time since I played it on my potato pc with potato settings to make it playeable; but I do remember I finished my medic build, one with that had a mini turret and bleed spheres/explosive; and the shield one wich I never finished since I had terrible rolling luck for the primary weapon to be optimal.

ROTFL. Nothing has evolved. Even the UI is 99% identical. If you showed someone gameplay from Division 1 and Division 2 they would say it's the same game.
Now compare Diablo 3 and Diablo 4. Same games? In both you kill mobs and collect drops? Yes. But the differences between them are gigantic.
You're just arguing for the sake of arguing. ROTFL. You do it. Because you made a fool of yourself by claiming that D2 is different from D1, and these games are IDENTICAL. Same mobs, same weapons, same skills.
And that the campaign has new quests? It's logical since it's the second part.

Aside from the bickering, could you actually elaborate on how the gameplay loop has evolved, if it isn't a simple shoot-loot-repeat cycle with brief breaks to click on mission givers?

If you could contrast how D1 and D2 differ in these elements (as Berion83 claims they're nearly identical) then it would be doing people a favour if they're on the fence. A different city would amount to 'a new map' which is kind of a given in most roaming games, but if the campaign and base building has significant differences beyond just a token switch of visuals and tree, it might get some attention.

I mean, being similar / almost the same isn't necessarily a bad thing if it works, but one of the criticisms of D1 was that it got very samey very fast, and it springboarded into DLC from there. The whole "if it aint broke, don't fix it" thing also has an opposite sentiment, where if something has a significant flaw it can often be safely revamped to a greater degree. Lets say, uhhhh : "if it sucks, nip and tuck"? Hey, I got nothing.

But yeah, actually giving some details will help.

Division (1) was almost 10 years ago so it's hard to compare those two but from what I remember the gameplay loop hasn't changed a lot.

But having played Bordlands 2, Borderlands 3, Anthem, Dead Island, Destiny 1 & 2, Dying Light 2, Dead Island 2 & probably 5 - 6 others I can't recall right now I can safely say Division 2 is easily the best Loot Shoot I've played.

In broad strokes what makes this game so great is:

  • 4 distinct enemy factions that all feel different and require different tactics to fight
  • a vivid and gorgeous city map with an unseen level of detail where a single residential house has 25 apartments each them unique
  • next level enemy AI: probably about as revolutionary as F.E.A.R. was back in the day
  • best cover shooter system to this day similar to Splinter Cell Conviction & Blacklist (it's just soo much fun to dash from cover to cover ducked simply by aiming the next place you wanna take cover)
  • interesting and fun skill trees and buids where you can figure out extremely strong synergies without having to resort to Build guides like in many other games)
  • extreme replay value due to all factions fighting among themselves and changing territories so the same story mission can be inhabited by different factions which completely changes them
  • very motivation crafting and reforge system where you deconstruct weapons to learn the ultimate version of each random modifier to build weapons that perfectly suit your build
  • roughly 250 - 300 h of gameplay from the base game alone if you go to the highest world tier

I could propably list more if I took more time to think (considering Division 2 & Warlords of New York was 5 - 6 years ago) but if what I just listed isn't worth 3€ to you I suppose it can't be helped 😅

Disclaimer: I played the whole game in 3 player coop.

If you're asking whether or not Dark Zones have PvEvP, they do. It's also where you get the best gear by and large. But it's not necessary to play the campaign. In my opinion, Dark Zone is best played with a group. Whereas running around the world in general is completely fine solo.

And I gave the answer: there is only one DZ because the whole DZ is about pvp.
No one cares if you can enter DZ without finishing the campaign. In D1 you could too and it also didn't make sense because the campaign gives us base development, and base development is the development of our character.

If you don't mind not owning them on Steam, there is usually a Ubisoft anniversary sale in May with a 10 bucks off 20 spent discount which is a good time to get the most expensive games. They probably will have an edition with both expansions on sale next year.

You will be reminded in game that you are missing dlc's, this means getting notifications and quests you can't complete and even just going through an area that will require a DLC to procede will tell you so.

While the game can be fun.... with the first update released they added in everything and you will repeatedly be ripped out of immersion.
This is only 3$... but having the game for quite some time... I would not pay 3$ for this, knowing what is expecting me aside the gameplay.

It is not as bad as in The Crew series with sever wide event advertisements for DLC content even though you don't own it. In the middle of the race you get these damn pop ups blocking half the screen.

I am simply sick of getting permanently annoyed with some stupid advertisement.

Easily sunk over 1K hours in the game since release date. Took a break for a few years, then WoNY happened and bought it, most of the hours were gained from here on, lots of things to grind for if you're into it, or even do extra stuff like hunt for Hunters or help others run through the missions.
Bought the Brooklyn DLC recently and I'm having so much fun exploring and finding new things.

Personally I can recommend it heartfully, but depends on you if you're into it.

I played 99% of the time Solo, PvE. It's a fully PvE game aside from Dark Zone, and Dark Zone is not something you are asked to do during any campaing, they're just side quests that are before you reach level 30 and nobody is staying level 30 to mess with you during those times, Dark Zone is for the majority of time a PvE experience during that time.
I only ever tried Dark Zone to see how it was, but thankfully most of the experience was normal, not much PvP surprisingly. However, Dark Zone reeks of cheaters. I am unsure of Conflict, another pvp mode that is more traditional to TDM and stuff.

$3 is a steal. If you have never played it, now is a good time to try it while paying peanuts. It's a very good PVE looter shooter that can keep you entertained for many hours even without the DLCs. It's true that at one point you are guided to a mission that you cannot enter because you don't own the ultimate edition (There are an additional 8 classified assignments that you get with the ultimate edition and that you can't enter now. These are are basically side missions with some collectibles and cosmetics). But don't worry too much about it, there is so much other stuff to do to keep you entertained.
The post apocalyptic Washington DC environment is top notch. The open world is much alive and there are many random encounter while crossing the world on your route to a another mission or event.
I bought the game during a sale for $5 in the Epic games store (and played it through the Ubisoft Connect launcher) because it was not available on Steam at that time. Later I bought the Warlords of New York Expansion during a sales in the Ubisoft store. I played it for a good 800+ hours, mostly solo. For the stronghold missions I grouped with random people through the matchmaking option which I also enjoyed very much.

All in all a very good game for a bargain price.
Now I will wait for a sale on the Battle for Brooklynn DLC so I can return to New York, explore the new neighborhoods and shoot some more cleaners.
