So I was thinking about buying this game from a trader, but I'v heard Valve retroactively locked some ROW copies of pre-ordered games in the past (South Park, Thief, Witcher 3). I checked and it seems like the game is region-free, so the buyer shouldn't use any shady trick to get it... but is it safe enough? Thanks for your help.

Witcher 3 aint out yet and there's nothing known about a lock, just some people speculating.
Buying Alien is safe, no special tag or lock from Russian copies.

Valve doesnt lock copies, the developer/publisher decides to do that.

Buy the game from Steam itself. No risk.

If you're asking yourself if the trader or trade is legit, then don't take the risk, especially if the deal is "too good to be true." Usually in those cases, it is.

The game is 49,99€ in my region, while people are selling it for 13 keys (~21,50€ after transaction fees). I could buy 2 copies and still have some money left.

However, I'm still not sure about buying it, just wanted to clear things up before making my decision.

I have bought literally a few hundred games from Russians.
None have been locked or removed.
Still, there's always a risk youre taking.
I believe it happened to South Park, Rome 2 and Thief. (Unplayable if you werent in the right region)
Its smart to activate Russian copies and dont keep them in your inventory, especially with AAA games.
