Does anyone have the same problem like me, I just can't start the giveaway at 1 hour later for a quickie.

When I choose to set the giveaway at Oct 28, 2017 10:41 am, but the system tells me it starts at 12 hours later.

Here is some screenshots for this problem.

Edit: Thanks for everyone discuss this issue with me, and I will figure out some suggestion. ;)

Hope everyone enjoy the holiday, giveaway and games!

I just hit now and done, and now and done for both start and finish and it defaults to making it last 1 hour

Rather than picking a specific starting time, try choosing "Now" as your starting time.

Thanks for reply, I did choose Now from begin and end, but it is still 12 hours later. :(

Is your clock set correctly?

and check your timezone in the settings:

It's not quite as simple as his clock. SteamGifts is translating the "Now" (present time) as 12 hours later than his actual time. That means that there is a disconnect between SteamGifts' reading of the current time and SteamGifts' calculation of when the giveaway will begin. In other words, it's an SG scripting error.

Any background programs he may be running which tamper with time and/or location (e.g. VPN) could be interfering, or it could be something else.

Steamgifts clock set at America/Chicago (1:41am) now and I did not use VPN or else could bother the time/location on steamgifts. :D

Steamgifts clock set at America/Chicago

So is this right or wrong?

Which browser do you use? Can you try a different one?

Use chrome now, but I don't think it is the problem of the matter, I will try to reset my browser but it would be trouble for me to login everything again, maybe just keep it, I still can do some enduring giveaway.

Just try a different one first.

Clicking now orders javascript to generate current date based on system clock, so there is nothing wrong with SG server or script itself - it's simply wrong date reported by OS, browser, javascript, or all three.

I love this response. Not only does it address the problem, it also provides useful information to those of us who have no knowledge of programming.

It seems that the SG script is picking up the correct time and date when displaying it on the creation page, but confusing it when moving to the preview page. My guess is that either the transfer of data is corrupted, or the data shown on the two pages is collected by two different functions. I suspect the latter is more likely, but either situation invites investigation by the Admin.

There are 2 factors involved here - client side, and server side.

Majority of calculations, such as what date to put when clicking "now" on giveaway start (current date), or "now" on giveaway end (current date + 1h) is 100% client-based and there is nothing involving SG script. SG script only tells client how to generate those fields, but entire data is inside client side.

Server side is activated the moment user clicks "create giveaway", as in that moment local generated dates are being sent to SG server for validation. Because SG server is responsible for actually creating giveaway in database, it parses whatever client entered for dates and tries to create a giveaway based on those settings, and its own system clock.

This means that if user clock is e.g. 1 hour forward, user will see giveaway starting now and ending in 1 hour, but once user creates such giveaway it'll be actually starting in 1 hour and ending 1 hour afterwards.

So if user is creating a giveaway and it starts in 12 hours, it means that user clock is 12 hours forward towards SG clock. It could also be country/region mismatch if OS uses proper date but different region as opposed to what we can see in user settings on SG.

Unless region reported by SG is wrong, this is client-side problem. And if region is wrong, indeed staff should correct this.

Thanks for developer and moderator 's comments, you are talking something really difficult for me to understand. :O

Btw I also use extended steamgifts for sometimes, but I try to stop it once for testing the giveaway time, it looks like the same problem.

I had the same problem as OP, checked from this link and my timezone is indeed wrong. Do you know how can I correct this? I can't seem to change it from that page. :(

I just tried Mozilla and the timezone is the right one. The problem seems to be Chrome, the browser I use normally.

I just really don't know, since I disabled them all at once. Then I realized my mistake and tried to see if I could find it out re-enabling them one by one; but non of them caused trouble again. A little bit weird!

I have never encountered this problem. I also just attempted to create a giveaway to start 1 hour from now and end 2 hours from now. I was able to do so without any issues. I was also able to create a giveaway that starts now and end 1 hour later.

Feel free to 💙 me if you want. I'd appreciate an extra chance at Virginia.

Make sure your PC's clock is set to the right time. I've had similar issues and that was the cause.

i had similar problem but with end time, system setting it one hour sooner than what chosen, but ga's running time were very long (4 weeks) so maybe the daylight saving time shift, for me...
Meanwhile, bookmarked your awesome shares, thank you so much, whiteblack :D

Hm...Could it be a timezone thing? You're clearly in a very different timezone than I am, so I have no idea what that's like, but it's possible that for some reason (I doubt a vpn would affect it), Steamgifts is going by 10 am somewhere else in the world. For example, right now, it's 11:55 pm on Oct. 27 here.So in 10 hours, when the giveaway starts, it'll be around 10 am on Oct. 28.

Dunno. Thanks for the giveaways though. Hope you figure things out. :) I would really appreciate a consideration for your whitelist too~ Thanks in advance

I've never had that problem before. Hopefully it's just a temporary glitch or something!

Virginia looks like an amazing game, but my ratio is probably too crappy to ask for an add. I'll give your thread a bump!
