Whenever I play a game for the very first time, I watch every single intro video. You know, these little video bits that usually come right before the main menu and show for example which developer/publisher was involved or which graphics engine was used. I am just trying to find out if there are any story-related intro videos between them. And everytime I do this, I am thinking about why I am watching all of this. And then I am thinking about how I always think about this while watching it :D

This is a good question... huh. I don't know.
Since joining Backlog Assassins, I've gotten into the habit of immediately writing my thoughts down about the game in a review (at most, I wait a few hours. Very rarely do I wait until the next day). Does that count?
Otherwise, I try to do everything in one playthrough, talk to everyone/explore everything I can, and get teary-eyed whenever I see '.... and you!' at the end of the credits.

Uh, If there are cars in a game and you can freely drive around, I will always look for glitches or stupid things you should not do?
Like in Watch Dogs, I always rode on a motorcycle just so I could glitch into the air by jumping onto cars. And in the goddamn Transformers Wii game, I rammed into a wall for a solid 5 minutes, to the point where the game broke so bad every single object was removed except for my car, and the colours stopped working.

Oh, the vice that is known as loot. It has me in its clutches all the time. I pick up every single item in a location, from a body, from a defeated enemy, or that I have stolen. I go back to that location as many times as needed until every item has been sold or ended up as a knick-knack in my home.
I do this in Fallout 3 the most (collecting for my home, that is). Every time I found a teddy bear, it ended up in my home. I also had a special place for the "unique" teddy bears that you could find in the game. I think there were 5 of them in total?

I am like that as well, but for me I even do the "worthless" side quests. For example, I never advanced the main story in The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, as I just never went to the Temple when they requested my help (I didn't want the Oblivion Gates to sprout across the land). I spent several hundred hours in that game, doing side quests and exploring every nook and cranny.:)
Fallout 3 is another good example for that.:)

For some reason this one really annoys some people:
The first thing that I do in every single game that I play is to mute music. If I can't mute it in game, I will mute the whole game in the volume mixer.
Come at me.
Edit: oh and another one. I will take any items the game allows me to take because you never know.... Me playing Skyrim or the Witcher could be an episode of hoarders.

If it had a separate music slider then I sure did (I played it years ago so I don't remember it exactly). The only game I recall not doing that for was Submerged because it only had tiny bits of some really lovely music once in a blue moon.

If the cap fits: one friend played csgo muted and then surprised that enemy basically trampled to their position, not hearing the VERY loud shots and footsteps. Another one played an atmospheric, music-oriented game muted and then openly complained about it. I've seen forums with complaints that a game didn't have any indicators, except the loud-ass horns that they didn't hear because they played muted. I'm not a huge music fan, though I like to listen to stuff I like, or not super annoying, so I wouldn't mute it. The hole ordeal is just a bit unpleasant for me, because most cases there's an "oh dear" moment when the self-caused stupidity will surface and just create problem for others :D

Heh I always had a weird issue with CSGO where I could not hear footsteps for shit no matter how loud I had the sound and had people be frustrated at to the point they just got used to tell me "you heard him at X" all the time whenever they were spectating me. There was definitely something really funky going on with Windows tho because I could hear them loud and clear on the same headphones when using Linux.
Otherwise that is never been a problem with me. The only games that I ever had to straight up mute were puzzle games/shitty Unity games (that the sound wouldn't make them any better) so the lack of sound affected nothing. Only exception to that being Agatha Christie - The ABC Murders when I needed sound to solve one of the puzzles >.< But I didn't mute it because I wanted to but because I was abroad and my dumbass forgot my headphones at home.

I don't do this with most genres, but I absolutely immediately turn the sound off in visual novels, bc most of the music/voice acting is bad or very grating. (Most of the voice direction for the voice actresses in Japanese games seem to be 'sound like the sexiest baby you can imagine' and it's sooooooo annoying)

I don't think I ever played VN with voice acting. I always thought I would much prefer if they had it because I tend to zone out pretty quick and tab out to do something else for a short period of time but I can stay entertained no problem if I watch someone play one and voice act it. Now I am not actually sure if I ever wanna come across one :/

If it makes you feel any better, I don't mute the music, but I always turn the music down to 40-50% (sometimes even lower) in any game. In a lot of games (most, in my opinion), the music just overpowers all the other sounds and dialogue in a game.

This just gave me flashbacks to the start of every Valve game. That damn music that is 300x louder than the actual game. But yea everyone should be able to play the way they prefer, that is why separate volume sliders are thankfully a thing :D

I admit, I don't exactly understand you (although I do find default sound balance in the majority of games irritating and usually start with lowering music volume considerably). But what annoys me is when people get annoyed just because somebody dares to adapt their games to their preferences in a relatively uncommon way.

Yep, same. I came across a Reddit thread a while ago where people were doing this shit and it made my blood pressure rise so quickly. Like if the person is streaming or uploading it somewhere I would kinda understand but for us who just play for ourselves why do this people care so much D:

While that is something that I wouldn't do myself (unless it was a game that only had one single looping track that got annoying quickly), I would never get annoyed at someone else doing it. It is their game after all. I do wonder if you have missed any really nice music, though.
Remember Me, Life Is Strange, Fallout 3 (because it has both background music from time to time, and the music you can listen on your PipBoy), and Submerged (I bought the soundtrack for it, as it was so nice) are just a few examples of games that I enjoyed the music to.
Do you do it because you find music to be distracting (I can see that being the case for sure) or just personal preference?:)

Submerged is a special game. It is the only game that I remember not muting the music of, just putting it really quiet. It was too lovely to mute.
I wrote a bit about my reasons here. While there are games out there that I can only play without any other sounds disturbing me (mostly shooters and HOG games out of all things), it is generally not the reason why.

The reason I do that is because a lot of games have repetitive background music without lyrics. That bothers me a lot! I actually get irritated by the game music.

I am not gonna lie, I have gotten my left and right mouse button stuck in the pressed position out of pure frustration when playing CSGO too many times to count. There is a very good reason why I don't play that game anymore. But if you were in voice chat with me you would probably never be able to tell because I don't rage at people I play with.
The drink one is really interesting, I never heard of anyone doing that before :o Any examples?

Hmm, well it extends a bit outside of games.
I drink coke zero usually in between multiplayer matches, I like fruit juice or fruit syrup based drinks when watching a show or maybe playing something more relaxed, and I sometimes make and drink coffee when playing various smaller or indie games because I usually drink coffee when working on my own games, so it sets me in a certain kind of mood.
The intensity of my habit goes down as listed here, so while I don't always drink coffee when playing games (though I always do when working on them, sometimes also energy drinks) I feel like I MUST have that coke in between games 😅, it's like a breath of fresh air.
It's a weird psychological thing and I'm not sure it's that healthy.

With regards to taking notes, I tend to do that for RPGs that don't have a strategy guide (or ones where the guide won't have the information I need). For example, I have about 20 pages worth of notes (both sides, lined 3 hole paper) for Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar. I wrote down entire conversations for every single person in the game, including every branch that could be chosen.
In that game, you would type in a word, which would then lead to a different branch, and so on. For example, I type in 'Job' and the person would say. "I work in the stable!". I would then type 'stable', and they would say "That is where the horses are!". I would type in 'horses', and they would say "There is a rumor that there is a talking horse!". Stuff like that. It will make it a lot easier for me the next time I play that game.
I also have the locations of every special reagent, the reagents needed for every spell, the locations of every special item, the words of power, etc.

I sometimes drew maps for RPGs as well, but only where the game didn't provide one and I felt it's necessary.
Some would call it an inconvenience, but there's something special about working your way through a game like that.
The last time I did this was when I played Legend of Grimrock, a game I enjoyed very much. :)

I always take ages before I actually begin playing more complex games. The most extreme example used to be Football Manager. I think I managed once to spend 6-7 hours, spread over some sessions, before I clicked the "next turn" button for the very first time. Then I was ready and knew who to fire or sell and which system to play.

I always save twice, just to be sure. When one single button of the controller gets too much of the pressing, I'll deliberately push the other ones so they get even. When there's a lot of reading in a game, not being able to turn the text speed to eleven can make me abandon it, imposed slow reading drives me insane.

I have never played a game with WASD. I always use the arrows which means I have to use autohotkey for a lot of games that don't let you rebind everything or doesn't let you use to odd keys on the right side of keyboard and numpad.

I use a keyboard with no gap above the arrow keys so I can use the 6 keys above them pretty easily. I will add a picture of the keyboard I use.
I use my pinky finger on control for jump and shift for walk.
Middle finger to crouch just above up arrow.
Pointer finger on page down to interact.
Then everything else gets assigned to the rest of the keys that I can reach without moving my hand.
Other than the arrows, I can reach an additional 9 or 10 keys without moving my hand off the arrow keys at all and about 18 or 19 keys while keeping my hand over the arrows but stretching a little.

I just don't like change. I have been using the arrows since the days of Doom 95. The problem is that there are almost no keyboards that have no gap above the arrow keys which would take away good, easily reachable keys, and make everything a lot harder. I am so set on using the arrow keys that when my keyboard started wearing out, I got worried because I couldn't find any that didn't have the gap above the arrows. I found the same keyboard I had on ebay and bought 3 of them. I am set for a while :)
I don't get to experience mechanical keys and it doesn't have great rollover. I think if I am using shift to walk or sprint, I can't move diagonally up and left, but I can move up and right. That kind of sucks, but I put up with it.

Yeah, in my experience, that "gapless" design isn't very common, so it's good that you've stocked up. A lot of us are creatures of habit, and when we find something that works, we tend to stick with it. When I first started playing FPS games, I used the numpad for directional controls, and it worked great. I eventually switched over to the typical WASD setup, though, when I finally got tired of sliding my keyboard back and forth across my desk every time I fired up a game. :P

If the game allows a pacifist run (completing it without killing anything) I have to do the pacifist run, regardless of whether I also complete it some other way. Ditto if there is a "perfect happy ending run" where nobody dies of other causes either. Fortunately, most games that allow pacifist runs are built around it too, so you don't have to go too crazy.
Also, I always watch all the end credits while I reflect on how many people were needed to make it all possible. (I do the same for movies.) This is regardless of whether there's a nice post credits scene at the end, although that's appreciated.

Ditto! Video games are my wish fulfillment, so I might as well play the nicest person possible. I actually got through Always Sometimes Monsters without really doing anything questionable, which made the confession scene (where the game throws all your bad choices back in your face) a little funny.

I always save the best weapons/items/cars/various stuff for "whenever needed", but everytime the game doesn't actually have a part when the final weapon or the megaelixir is useful. For this reason, it's not rare that i finish an FPS using only the starting pistol and rifle or saving lots of money in an RPG without buying anything.
Developers, you gave me that ultrafinalcannon, let me use it on something more dangerous than the same old enemies that i can kill with my starting gun anyway.

I used to do this all the time, too. I'd finish a game with an arsenal of unused weapons and medkits, thinking that I'd save them for when I really needed them... only to see the ending credits scroll by and think, "Huh, I guess I should have used that stuff." :P

I can't recall which game finally broke me of the habit, but now I'll use the awesome weapons as soon as I get them until there's no more ammo and just deal with the consequences (the consequences are typically that there's a convenient ammo drop for the awesome weapon right before you might want to definitely use it, but occasionally it's reloading an old save).
That said, I haven't used any of the Estus Flask upgrades in Dark Souls yet, because that game seems to want to punish you for doing anything. I don't look up tips on strategies, so I don't know if I'm being stupid about that or not.

Saving extra items such as potions or grenades/traps/whatever and end up not using a single one during the entire game because I can manage without (even if it makes things harder) and I'm saving them for "really tough situations". Happens especially often in RPGs since most of the time you can just grind past parts where you'd need potions etc.

That said, sometimes it can actually make a game more fun. Two examples can be the Far Cry sequels (where otherwise you could just use a rocket launcher and LMG all the time and destroy everything right from the start) and the Dead Space games (where the plasma cutter is really awesome to use and fits very well with the setting).
