I know it's not considered "new" anymore, it came to my phone (Xperia U) a few months ago, however after reading some reviews I decided to delay my update. I've heard mixed things about it, some say it uses more resources, some say it uses less, just like some say it uses less battery, some say it uses more.

Any of you guys use it? Perhaps on the same phone as me (Xperia U)? Are the games smoother on one than the other? To be honest, I haven't played proper demanding games on my phone yet, although from what I've seen it could handle almost anything on Gingerbread, not sure how it performs after update.

Runs pretty much the same.

I have an Xperia Ray that came with GB. I've updated it to ICS the very day I got it so I can't tell you much about GB. Overall, there are no major differences, the phone has no lag or anything like that. What I liked is the new gallery that allows full res. images and the camera menu which is simpler and easier to work with. A major disadvantage would be the fact that you lose the option of connecting your phone with the PC via wi-fi. Of course, you can still use a third party app like Airdroid if you want. The new task manager in ICS is also pretty good, compared with the one in GB. You can read more here.
The battery life doesnt't seem to be affected by the version of Android you run. I managed to get 4 days out of my little Ray, of course, without gaming or internet. Xperia U is also a dual core, which should mean no lag at all( I think:)).

Thanks for your input and the link, as well.
To be honest, I didn't know you can connect phone with PC over wi-fi, using GB. I usually use dropbox for smaller file transfers, and USB when transfering larger amount of data.
And yes, Xperia U is a dual core, it normally runs very smoothly.

Normally, I would just update and see what it's like, but in my case it clearly states that once you've upgraded, you can not downgrade back to GB. So if there were any problems with ICS, I would have to root the phone to get GB back, which I don't want to do as long as I have my warranty, and don't have the need for it.

Before you upgrade you could search on forums (XDA, sony forums or GSMarena) and see if anyone had problems with ICS on Xperia U. If there are only a few users complaining you should be safe :)

Yes, I've checked quite a lot. There are some bugs, however most are resolved by clearing the cache, reinstalling some apps and/or doing a factory restore. The thing is, it's not a very popular phone and it's not very easy to find useful feedback.

Probably not, but when I updated my Galaxy Nexus to Jelly Bean it was way smoother than before. Root your phone and flash a JB-based ROM, trust me, you won't regret it.

I'm not sure if Xperia U will handle JB correctly, many doubt it will be released officially (even very late) due to the low (512mb) RAM.

Have LG P500, ICS defs runs faster than gingerbread. At least, when it's about UI.
