So I just saw that Monster Hunter World is coming soon, and for the first time on PC (I think). It's one of those (dare I say so myself) classical games that I grew up hearing about but never playing, considering that you need a console (yes PSP is a console too) to play.

So I'm curious about how long would you wait before being willing to shell out some of that (physical/digital) money to pay for a game that's highly anticipated by you.

Personally, I think no matter how much I want it, I have to wait for both sterling reviews and sales before I even think about buying it.

Pay... Or no pay?

Remember, no pre-orders
What's money compared to all that sweet, sweet (exclusive pre-order) content?
Steam sales only, begetted by our Lord and Savior Gaben! (You heretic!)
Yo ho ho!
The obligatory potato choice
Good reviews, a (dang) good price and mayyybe I might think about it then

I wait 1,5-2 years till it's patched properly and has GOTY edition with all DLC for <12€. Or when it's in bundle.

Only game I bought for full price was BioShock Infinite, and I was so disappointed with it that I told myself that I won't buy any other game for full price ever again.

I buy a game when I decide I want to play it.

I start considering a game as soon as it hits -75%. Unless I'm really hyped, then I'd just wait for the first batch of post-release reviews and then maybe jump on it.

I pre-ordered Wolfenstein II at the start of this month. Even if it won't be as good as the The New Order, I know that I will enjoy the game a lot. Plus I got it pretty cheap.

I think every poll option should have included "no pre-orders".

Also, every previous Monster Hunter has gotten good sale discounts, and price reductions, with some patience. And that is on 3DS, which doesn't get great sales on popular and flagship games. But, I think every MH so far has gotten a demo.

I'd suggest you wait it out. Especially since it's this serie's first foray onto PC, so there's bound to be some bad bugs out of the gate.

"75% off sale and final price under 10$ or no deal."
That's my rule. I occasionally break it but I'd really need to want the game to do so and lately the backlog has kept my enthusiasm down. Heck, in the last year I've broken that rule for giveaways (2-3 times) more often that to buy anything for myself (0).

Depends on the preorder price.

As long as it takes for it to become particularly cheap.

I have such a long backlog of games which I actually want to play that I don't see the need to pay a premium to add to it.

Waiting allows you to get the game fully patched, with mods available (if applicable) and at a cheap price.

The only downside is if you play online, but I don't, so that's no issue.

The last thing I preordered was witcher 3. The last thing I bought at full price was GTA V. Liked both, was not sorry. Usually I wait for the reviews and let's play videos and such things, and even then I don't buy at full price because I live in a country where full price of an AAA game is 1/6th of the median monthly paycheck. I do try to support good indies.

Unless it's a very good deal, I'll usually wait for first reviews to see if the game is actually something I really want and probably first patch after that before going for it.

Once a quarter I will buy a AAA game (although I try to not preorder or pay full price...), in between is filler stuff from Humble or Indie Gala. I will usually make a point to play and complete the AAA. Last two games were Resident Evil 7 in January and Prey in May so I think I am due for another one (!). Maybe Destiny 2

I've been burnt by pre-orders almost every time. There's just no way to know how a game will perform until it's released. We do, however, have the option for refunds, now, so that provides some relief. It's really up to the person spending the money as to whether or not it's worth the risk. In the end, it's only money, but it's also money that could be spent elsewhere.

Unless it's Dark Souls basically until really good discount.Only two games i ever bought at full price was Dark Souls 3 and Guild Wars 2 . Other than that i dont really have funds to buy new games since price of a full AAA game is ~1/5 of minimal wage. I'm getting average one but still cant afford 60$ games.

We have more than enough games to tide us over now, so I'll wait until it's 65% if it's a really wanted AAA. Otherwise I prefer to hold off until it's 80% or better, or in a bundle... unless it's one of those games known not to ever appear in bundles or have a sale price go below 75%.

Patient and cheap. Very cheap. But I also have a TINY budget. The only exceptions to 75% or more off sales/bundled are No Man's Sky and Tekken 7, and that was only possible because I asked for them for my birthday present in 2016 and 2017 respectively. My game fund is very small but with my huge inventory I'd probably still wait 99% of the time considering how long my backlog already is.
