Yep. In all seriousness, I think Limbo is a pretty unique game. It's not about the gameplay and action, what makes that game shine is it's atmosphere and artistic style. There aren't many games like that around, people nowadays just want their CoD-crap...

Just because a lot of people like something, doesn't mean that it's objectively good, or that they are right. There are many reasons why some people don't like the game, and they are right to not like it. As a puzzler, it's not challenging and it quite boring. If someone doesn't like the aesthetic or the narrative, then it's not a good game for them.
Depending on what people don't like about the game, they are right in saying it's over hyped and not good.

I'm not criticizing people who doesn't like it. I criticize the fact that he says it's OVERRATED. Ratings, by definition, are defined by people's opinion. If the majority says it worth lets say 9.5, then there's just no argue people want to rate it 9.5, that's why they did rate it 9.5. Easy, right?
So, it IS rated 9.5 by people. There's no "Overrated", because that would imply that you think everybody else's ratings are wrong and should be lower, like if you were the only who could rate it property, which is in fact wrong and is what I criticize.

Your logic is flawed. Once again... Just because people rate a game as 9.5, doesn't mean it's deserving of that rating.
Opinions can be wrong. Have you read some of the reviews for games on meta critic? They're retarded. People will rate a game as 1/10 because it uses Windows Live, or rate a game 10/10 because they like the aesthetic alone.
Limbo really only has the aesthetic, and narrative thing going for it. It's wrapped around a puzzle game that is too easy and boring. Non of the puzzles are even unique. There is no way the game should be rated as high as 9.5.
And just FYI, before you call me a hater... I actually like the game, but I'm able to see the flaws in it.

Just because you think it deserves a 5 doesn't mean other people MUST agree with your 5. If other people want to give it a 10 or a 0 it's just not up to you. Is it really that hard to understand that a rating is PERSONAL. You can't just say to someone: your opinion is wrong, the game is worse that you think. That's not how opinions work. Other people will rate it differently to you, and the same way you think "There is no way the game should be rated as high as 9.5." there's people that think "There is no way the game should be rated lower than 9.5.".
But you still seem to think than only your opinion/rating is right...

You must have proof for what you said and it must be a suitable one but yeah. It's PERSONAL but you can tell that his opinion is true or he just faked it to act cool! Games are made for people to kill their time~ to enjoy it. When my internet were cut off, i enjoyed playing chess, card games(in my computer) too even though they are suck compare to games i have. It's just when you know how to deal with it, it's not that bad, it's perfectly good at times btw not sure if this related to what you're saying but yeah, in summary, you can say that i'm with you in some parts, in some parts i repeated ( haven't read them all, so tired and forgot my popcorn)

Oh I see, only you can refer to generalities, right? Whether you were referring to Limbo or not is entirely irrelevant. I used it as an example of how a lot of people rate games improperly. Another example is Amazon reviews... Like when someone receives a box that was damaged from shipping, they will rate the item a 1. That's just retarded, and it happens all too much.

I have no problem with people having their own opinion. But like I said earlier, opinions can be wrong. Personal opinions can't be wrong, but objective opinions can be wrong. There's a huge difference between the two. When someone says "Shaq is better than Michael Jordan", that is objective. When someone says "I like Shaq better than Michael Jordan", that is subjective/personal. One can be wrong, the other not so much.

I loved it. Not the best, not the easiest, not the greatest-looking, but simply wonderful.

Sure I would. Awesome game is awesome. The thing you should know about 'indie' is that those games are usualy not made like AAA that try to appeal to everyone. In recent years I disliked more indie games than I liked BUT I loved more indie games than AAA games so it was totaly worth it.

No Indie is not an excuse for crappy Product, infact Indie is the reason why Video Game industry keeps getting some awesome concepts and styles. Dont be disheartened if you didnt like Limbo, many did including myself. There are lots of Indie games to try and i'm sure there will be games which u'll like but the others will make threads for saying "it sucked"

yeah it is his opinion and I respect that but based on what? the problem is that most of people that start playing indies expect so much of them when they are actually purely based on puzzles and running rather than high quality like the other high end games like THQ, EA, Bethesda, etc.
My point is, if somebody is trying to play an indie game he/she should know that their standard in high end games is different than indie games and try to get used to the indie invironment before judging a game of being bad. At least see a video on youtube "there are hundreds on every single game"

I agree with the OP. Even though the game isn't long, it bored me to death. I had to turn it off a couple of times because I'm not having fun with it. Artstyle is nice, but the game mechanics are dull and happy-go-lucky. A couple of the "puzzles" I knew how to solve but I had to be SO precise with the games stupid physics. And story? What story?

The story is half white, half black, remains half hidden so you can think about the ending with your imagination! However, this is my ending: a boy who entered Limbo ( a mysterious world , a gate between hell and you know, normal world ) to find her sister. Limbo looks normal( have engines and stuffs) but it has creatures such as Humans, Spiders,... and it looks like the boy isn't welcome. He goes through traps, survives to the end of the road, through a glass. This is what confused people the most, the glass is the door to hell or ... to normal life, so i don't know if he's dead or not! BUT he sees his sister, who is crying over "something" under the broken ladder, She seems to can't see the boy which is her brother but only his presence. A sad story making me feel uneasy , a cruel separation of brother and sister, they can never see each other again! or or you can figure it out by playing it again!

What I was going to say is, the "gimmick" of the game is, it's B&W and it lacks voice acting or soundtrack. That's not a bad thing of course, but the game without that is only a below average 2D plattformer. The "Gimmick" is the hyped thing, not the game/gameplay itself. You talk about Limbo as "that awesome black and white game" and not as "the most awesome 2D plattformer ever"

Obviously may opinion differs, but that doesnt make your argument valid. It is still very dumb and your further sentences make it even worse. You need to look up the definition of gimmick, because art style does not fit into that. Skylanders do. Know the difference.
No voice, but what is bad about that when the gameplay convey the story? No soundtrack? Have you not played it? There is a soundtrack the entire game. Turn up your sound. Soundtrack doesnt mean that there is a constant stream of music.
There are people who call it that awesome black and white game? People that define it only by art style? Theyve missed the point, just like you. Look at what the name is called. Look at the journey in the game. Understand the meaning. Its not that hard. The title is a massive clue. Let me make it easier. You are in limbo.
Of course this game isnt for everyone. I enjoyed it. I know people that didnt, some found it pretentious, some thought it did not convey its point well enough. These are valid reasons. Some people simply dont get it, and that is OK, but you need to admit that and move on. I am not a big fan of Chopin, not my style, but I can understand why others like him and accept that. I think Bach far superior, but not everyone will agree. However everyone knows how important Chopin was. How great he was. I may not like him, but it is what it is.
I am not trying to say that this game is a masterpiece. It has flaws. But only time will tell if it can become a game that is generally recognised as exceptional. Like HL2, Metroid Prime, Super Mario 64, etc.
