That you know you have important things to do and yet you can't stop playing?

Yes, often.

Although the older I get, the harder it becomes to play night after night and still keep the appearance of not beinig a zombie in the office every day...

Sure, really good adventure games and RPGs tend to influence me this way (although not as much now as during my university years).

I find myself more immersed into games with no inventory, items, character menu etc.
Two games that firstly came into my mind: SOMA, Dear Esther

Now to answer the other part, I wouldn't ignore or skip important things in any case.

I've lost some sleep over games, but I've never been so absorbed into a game that I've missed something important, like an exam or an important deadline.

Well, one might argue that sleep is pretty important as well but I get your point and have to agree.

The Sims 1, Makin' Magic expansion. I had just bought it and as soon as I installed it, I played it for three days straight with minimal bio breaks and no sleep. Worse, I had to go visit family afterwards and when I returned home late on the third night, I was hallucinating hearing simlish and various game sounds around me. It was then that I knew.. It was bedtime. Lol. I've learned my lesson from that experience and it's never happened again.

I think it's been rare that I've been so engrossed in a game that I consciously choose not to get something done I need to. It's more often that I get so absorbed in it that I simply forget

No, never happened to me, not even once xDDDD I shouldn't be studying for the 8 exams I have this week instead of playing!

Doesn't even matter if I don't like the game that much, I will be completely absorbed in it deliberately to avoid important things that need doing. I'm not quite addicted, I just will procrastinate until the last minute and then I'll get off my game, like most everyone else does too I'm sure.

Does 3 hours sleep last night because I had to improve my Rust base count?

I'm home from work now, could be taking a nap but I'm getting ready to log back on :P

Badabump
It is less likely to happen nowadays, but in my teens, it happened all the time, gaming to 3 am on high school days.
