A question about games you already have

Ok, I have a question. I know the rules say not to bid on any game you already have, and not to trade away games you win, I understand that completely. Here is my question though. What if there is a game that I know a friend has been after that I already have and want to try and win so I can give to them as a gift, is that still unacceptable?

Not sure how you were planning on doing this anyway. If the site sees a game in your account, you can't even enter the giveaway in the first place. It is strictly enforced by the site as something you cannot do.

If your profile is private, then SG doesn't know what games you have.

You're forced to make it public once in a while so SG can sync that information, but if you buy a game, you can still enter giveaways for it until this happens.

Yes it is unacceptable. If you want you friend to win a game, save up your points and invite him to steamgifts.com w/ the generate invite code feature.

I think that falls under trading games that you won. That is also against the rules.

That's why he said read the FAQ, can't be any clearer than that. You can use your points to invite your friend and let them participate if you wanted.
