AKA long overdue privacy improvements. It might be non-noticeable for the average user, but those are pretty nice changes, even though they were government-imposed. You can't always be working on fancy-schmancy features, sometimes you've got to take care of what's under the hood too.

When I first signed up there were no ads, no ref links and no patreon
I signed up 2½ years before you did and there were already ads back then.
Basically, you're complaining about the fact that cg found ways to keep the site from going under because of lack of funding? And your response to that is to block ads so you're part of that lack of funding?
Considering this fact, what we get is, on my biased opinion, not enough.
What more, in your biased opinion, should you be entitled to in return for the nothing you put in this free site?

Sorry if I came off a bit insulting. From your post, it felt to me like you were saying "we don't get enough form this site to justify the pennies they would get from me keeping the ads on". It got to me and I overreacted.
And if this bothers you, I’ll gladly delete it.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion. I might disagree, but I will not ask for any kind of censorship on your part.
From what I remember, the ads were moved around (ended up in the sidebar) as originally they were at the bottom of the page. I don't think there were more, they were just in a more visible location.
As a reminder, if you feel there are changes that would benefit the site and it's users, I would invite you to make a thread in the "Bugs / Suggestion" category. That's always been the best way to let the admin know about what our users would like to see.

I just felt like pointing out that there are other ways to support the website without showing ads. Like making giveaways and direct linking.
Personally I adblock the entire web, I don't whitelist.

While I do get a lot of the sketchy dating sites (funny, because I never go to there or click the ads) I am now getting these weight-loss ads which depict an X-ray of what looks like Trump's body. While I'm at the age where folks are usually chunky I'm downright scrawny! Google Ads fail.
Perhaps it'll switch to sending me links to dating sites where I can find "more to love" in my (relatively small) area?

you really don't need to "go to" there.. they will come to you. they still want me so bad in Gay Cruises for Singles... it's been a month or so, now... and summer is ending...
also, "google fail" you're seeing is AdSense. that "fail" could be a "success" (kinda) in AdWords (where advertisers pay to show you AdSense)

I had it whitelisted until I got constanstly and ad that practicaly freezed firefox, never identified which specific ad was so I can report it, so went the easy route, blacklist the site.
I will try whitelisting again so I can see more Fortnite ads 'cause I havent see any in the las 15 minutes 😁

Whitelisted for a moment to check what the ads are. They want me to buy WOW, buy used PCs or sell my used games, none of those will ever happen so they would just be paying for nothing if those get shown to me.

I usually keep SG whitelisted, unless I get noisy or flashing ads, in which case I'll remove SG from the whitelist for a week or two.
Plus, if I kept the site blacklisted, I might miss out on gems like this:

Whitelisted, but it annoys me a lot. I load into the site, ready to press the wishlist filter, but then the ad just loads in, causing everything to be shoved down and me to click on the ad.
Sadly, I think the placement for the giveaway banner ad is pretty bad. They should put it underneath the filters, not above them.

Yeah, there is the search bar, but it's not that large. The ad for me is around 7.5 search boxes tall. So it's enough for me to misclick, sadly :/

I would make such a good moderator.
On certain days (when my mood is up) I would give allowances for anything, try to talk offenders straight, try to educate and guide.
On other days (when my mood is down) I would banhammer people for giving away games I don't like or not having me on their whitelists. Or for smelling bad.
Other days, I would simply not care, and just let things slide....

I have gained so many fun hours from steamgifts that i think it is truly despicable of me to not have this site whitelisted.
Through SG i have gained a number a games that have given me pleasure and rage ( i do not point fingers at you Lords of the Fallen, nor at you Hollow Knight. I lied I hate both games equally.) If SG takes 1.2 $ after 3 years i am happy with the exchange.
