Hello. I entered sgtools today and I saw this:
Banned! You were caught trying to cheat the system or entering a sgtools protected giveaway without permission.
That's really weird, mostly because I never tried to cheat the system or tried to enter a sgtools protected giveaway without permission. And no, I'm not lying. -_- I couldn't care less than cheating in sgtools giveaways. What may have triggered the ban? That I used undo? Or maybe sgtools gone completely bonkers? Either way, I don't think it's trustworthy anymore.

I ain't a fan of it, but if I wanted to enter a giveaway, I would use it. Most of the times, I would just check out the giveaways without even entering them. I was always using the original sgtools links, of course. I never tried to cheat. And I thought it was trustworthy. But obviously, it also has bugs or something? Why else would it trigger unreasonable bans (I saw other people too complaining there for an unreasonable ban)?

  1. leech will publish "nice" steamgift direct ga on forum, steam group, even "you are not alone" thread on this site etc.
  2. x or xx ppl joined.
  3. x and xx got sgtools ban for joining leaked links.
  4. leech have more chance to win in next sgtool gas, because more and more ppl are banned.

That's why Knsys made script that can check if GA is protected by SGtools here

But overall - never enter into stuff, when person that posts link isn't GA creator.

It's enough to look at users avatars, unless someone would have similar avatars or try to scam people by changing their user avatar on steam community to just get people banned on SGtools (that'd be crazy D:)

And also steam avatar and name is visible on SGtools check page. I always read descriptions and check for tags next to users nicks, so maybe I'm just used to check avatars along the way.

In that case there would be enough number of falsely banned people, that GA creator would be banned instead of normal users. It's easy to check why people were banned, and show that GA creator posted link without SGtools check in some forum event.

What he says is a possibility, not what already happened. It totally makes sense to me, I just think he used the wrong word (leech) and really meant the giveaway creator because it makes a lot of sense if you look at it that way.

Edit: But I guess he didn't really mean that, it makes more sense though :<

I wouldn't blame him for people posting around that it is a spyware and people making threads asking if that is true though. I see others saying it all the time and I have seen him say so maybe once or twice, granted I don't read everything on the forum

You were banned because you entered a sgt protected ga (Victor Vran) with a leaked link ! I don't know the exact date but your name is on the invalid entries list !

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I didn't enter any leaked link. Nobody ever gave me a leaked link for a giveaway of Victor Vran. The only sgtools giveaways I ever entered are the ones that original posters have made. I have never entered giveaways in comments or steam chat, etc. So, how could I have clicked a leaked link? Maybe you guys could check out what may be the problem? Because I don't like being called a cheater. And I'm pretty sure I've never clicked a leaked link. Clicking a leaked link just to participate in a giveaway that you won't probably win, is pretty pathetic, if you ask me.

If the mistake was made, then KnSYS should review it and remove the ban. Nobody calls you cheater, you're calling cheater yourself. Instead of ranting about it you could just post and wait for reaction, either here or privately (to avoid being called out).

The fact however stays - you've entered that giveaway, and you're on invalid entries list. Why - KnSYS should find out.

I think the new invalid entries are the ones that "entered the GA first, then check through sgtools after the GA ended". It happened to one of my GA too, I already knew the user got through leaked link though (because I was tracking every entry from the start)

I fail to understand how. Maybe, because I usually do that, I originally entered the giveaway through sgtools, then left the giveaway because I wanted to get points for a giveaway that was ending soon, and then I re-entered your giveaway? But I passed the sgtools check once, so why would that be a problem? Still, all that is a speculation. Maybe sgtools gone bonkers, I don't even know. All I know is that I never clicked any leaked links. Ok then, I'll wait for an answer.

There is no extra thread for these giveaways.I have used a simple chart and wrote about my "cause" in various "christmas" threads.

Check dates when GAs were made by them. If I'd have 10 sent and 70 won real CV, and you'd want to have 1:1 ratio it'd be enough to enter GA your GA without passing SGtools check, and then make short GA for Mad Max which is worth 60p - I'd have 1:1 after passing SGtools check, so it's not valid entry.

The same way someone can get GA link via SGtools, but then win 3 x AAA 60p GAs and they won't be valid. Albeit they get the link via legit way, it's not their fault that they were extremely lucky :D

If it's not the case I suggest writing in Knsys thread about it.

There was no ratio rule, only the basic activation and multiple filters.

If someone hadn't won anything after getting GA link (so have unactivated / multiple win after getting GA link). There is chance they marked win from few months back as "not received", enter GA and mark it as "received" once again, That way even if they don't have won game on their account, they were able to pass SGtools check.

In that case it can be considered as misuse of GA feedback. Have you report them to Knsys?

Aye, I've read almost all of this thread.. Maybe you'll get a satisfying reply.
It's the complicated part which I am also not good with. Remember what happened lately with Days Under Custody? Imagine if something similar happens to a more known title that for whatever reason Steam/Valve decides to withdraw and even compensate with refund but which people have won through giveaways.. Suddenly a bunch of people with a hole in their ratio/activations. There are endless possibilities ;)

Publisher/Dev wanted to cancel all non-activated keys but there was some mix up in the mail or something.. and Valve cancelled ALL keys from a certain bundle.. Since then they fixed it somehow (although in my case I got stuck with an invalid key and a refund which is useless because I really wanted to play the game and I can't have it again at that offer)

Hmmm, people got banned here because of that?

I don't think they were, it is a lesser know game afterall. But I would imagine if someone won it here and at that time synced with SG, they would be cut off from most/all sgtools filters for not having activated all their games (since they'd have the hole) and would have to wait for a fix before they could enter again. So imagine this in a larger scale, say like those 100-1000 copies giveaways..

Sadly (and in life in general) people would accept to follow more and more rules to weed out the bad seeds and thus put more and more people through complicated procedures/troubles with minimal gain.. As if we didn't have enough on our heads with regards to some kind of pressure in general.. Nevermind, venting, this here is afterall a tip be it from an iceberg or a cake or whatever.. but it's an example of our behavior..
Have a cheery afternoon ;)

Cicero once told that the more laws, the less justice. ;P Same goes with rules in general. Plus, a permanent ban means that you are not giving the other guy a second chance, so it's like you're dooming him to repeat the same thing in another site. And there's no gain at all. It's like slowly transforming a public site into a private site. Yeah, venting is sometimes good though. xD Anyway, have a nice afternoon.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You'd just unmark the 'Received' while you wait for it to be fixed. That's the correct response during any revoked game, and it'd keep you from being hit with a Non-Activation on SGTools.

So no, oughtn't be an issue.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I could go on with the possible issues of sgtools but I am not going to waste/spend more time on it than I already have. You say this is not an issue, perhaps this time (not sure if when you do that you affect the creator's ratio though - another problem created? ) so what about downtime then? And the GAs that ended during that? I'm sure you can imagine different scenarios which aren't covered. On my part I don't care much about those few bad seeds and who knows? Maybe if they win something they get something positive that would affect them in a good way.. Who knows..I choose to keep it simple..

Well, it's an external system to begin with, it's bound to have issues.

I don't care about it, though. There's SGT link I can join then I join. If it's not joinable for me then I can't be bothered to do further things.

It's there to 'fix' what SG can't do, but it's also there to satisfy some people's ego from what I can see. Like you said, no harm done.

People in steamgifts love to make drama out of everything.

You've been banned because you are reported as an invalid entry on a giveaway and the giveaway creator reported you. We can discuss if that entry was indeed invalid or not, since mistakes can happen (see 600 wagon train cases), but those are extremely rare.

I'll look into your case and tell you why you got banned and if it's a false positive, unban you.

Please restrain from creating this kind of threads that just attract rightfully banned people and evolve into a shitstorm. If you want to know why or how a ban happened, just use the right thread (SGTools thread) or talk to me in private (old giveaway of mine or add me).

First of all, I didn't originally know where to address to. I wasn't sure about which keyword I should put into the search bar to find who's the creator of sgtools. Other than that, I wanted to show that unreasonable bans exist, because you may wouldn't care to unban me so I would be considered a cheater forever. Also, this way, other people with unreasonable bans would find the "courage" to tell you to look into the matter with their unreasonable bans too. I doubt that people with rightful bans would come here and start lying, trying to make you unban them. That's all.

Well, there is a link to the thread in the footer of sgtools.
A search for "sgtools" brings the thread easily.

There has been some people asking why already, in the thread and privately. And only some cases from a recent train got unbanned because they were banned by mistake (giveaway creator linked the train from different gates together).

There are no unreasonable bans, all bans can be publicly or privately discussed, you can't get more transparency than that.

You see a sudden increase in invalid entries with the same time difference and it seems normal to you? Have you tried seeing if there's a problem with the site? There is enough drama on the main thread, there is no need to populate steamgifts forums with more topics about this. Apart it's better to have it all centralized on the same thread, so if you or anyone wants to check what is happening, it can check it right away.

Usually people want to handle the issues privately, just to avoid public shame and possible blacklists, just a matter of tastes.

Yes, but this is their choice. If they want to discuss publicly, want to attract attention in case of being regarded as unjust, they wanna make themselves heard, they should've done what they want. You're not just giving a nice advice, you more sound like saying people what to do and I just don't like it.

I'm not saying what people have to do, I just say that if they want me to read them it's a good idea to write it in a place I get notified.
I don't lurk the forums much lately since my spare time is little, so a thread like that could pass without me noticing it really easily.

I noticed this one because I got notifications and links on main thread.

Could you stop acting like an idiot?

Publicly = On the SGTools thread, where everyone can see it.
Privately = On a giveaway of Knsys, where people wouldn't know what happened.

It's not bad publicity, when the shitstorm is brought about by the ones accused/found guilty in the first place. Instead of making public threads about the matter, the first thing you folk should do is look for the official thread on the software, find out who made it from there, and then try to resolve the matter amicably. All you (and a few others) are doing here, is clamoring along with a bunch of other friends of yours and making noise. Act like a civilized being, or piss off.

The problem is that other than people who read the forums every day, most people on the site have no idea where to file appeals, especially since the thread mentions nothing about appeals in the top post. How many people of the 22 wrongly banned people have filed appeals in your thread? Looks like 3 to me. And 2 of them opened other threads first before they were directed there.

While we haven't gotten any support tickets about this particular incident yet, we have had quite a number of support tickets in the past about people getting banned. Sigh.

Well, when they get the banned screen, there is not much more than the banning message and the footer. In the footer there is a direct link to the thread.

22 wrongly banned people? Where did you find that number? So far there has been 2 people from Lost's thread and 3 from regional misplace. Mind telling me who are the other 17 I didn't heard of?

Sorry about people filling steamgifts support tickets for sgtools bans, but I don't know where they got the idea that steamgifts support can do anything about those bans :\

Oh I know. It was Drago and LostIdiot (your biggest supporters, apparently) who said we must be cheaters and rule-breakers since we don't agree with first offense perma-bans. You were the one saying we were causing "drama" by disagreeing with your methods, though.

Besides, from what it appears, you don't even have to be a cheater to get banned anymore.

Mullins and I were kind and respectful (at first). It was the rest of you who took offense at criticism. You'd do well to remember that. Oh, and I don't "use" SGTools and never will again, but I will enter giveaways hosted on this site, as the creators of those giveaways have allowed me to do so -- not you or anyone else.

My friendly advice? You might want to be a bit more careful tossing those bans about. But hey, I said that in the beginning, too, didn't I? Maybe this time, though, you'll understand a little better why I was against the bans in the first place.

You don't remember me because you don't want to. Let me remind you - I was the one who first suggested the strike system. Certainly you remember that, or do you need a link?

Mullins posted that she was against the bans altogether, because SG has rules and punishments in place already to deal with those infractions. Her opinion was dismissed as "drama." Classy.

So yes, we were both more than reasonable, polite, and respectful -- until we were attacked and berated. Now keep in mind, also -- we were both 100% supportive of SGTools until all of that went down.

I just want to add my part - Draco and LostSouls are indeed waaay too triggerhappy to jump on anyone who gets banned by the automatic system of yours. You and as far as I've seen Archi treats the system properly by responding something along the lines of the system detected them entering the GA without checks. Which is true, but considering yesterday's events with the server-times , the guys telling every banned person that THEY entered and broke the rules is apparently not 100% sure. No system exists without faults, but as far as you have such a vocal support from them promoting instaban without asking, calling/hinting rulebreaking like it's a fact is not acceptible. YOU (and maybe Archi?) has the data to actually support these claims, and you do it in the professional way, of giving out the info that's the reason behind the bans. I don't want to suggest additional rules as they tie up our life already, but don't support or encourage people to draw conclusions from the nowadays pretty "hot" topics of "why am I banned on SGTools" - because yesterday some people basically started a smaller witchhunt on claimed causes, and the only reason they are not punished because the SGTools system is not part of SG itself.
I really respect you for setting up the system and mostly because of it's customizable options, but be careful, because it's your system, all positive and negative things will come back at you. And I think it would be beneficial to update the SGTools topic with news regarding these as well, it's pretty ridiculous that one needs to dive in a random sgtools topic to find out why there are so many "I'm banned" topics nowadays, and that you know about it, found out what happened, fixed and won't happen again. Changelog is nice but actual news would be more useful in my opinion.

Everyone has it's own opinion and some people are more enthusiast than others when defending their point of view.

I can't control other people opinions and as I told on sgtools main thread, the wording and information on banning page has to be reworked from scratch. It's on todo list already.

There are enthusiasts on both sides of the argumentation, so at the end arguments get stronger and blacklists entries flies from one side to the other, and again I can't do nothing about it.

That's why I wanted everyone to use main thread, but some people claimed I wanted to censure things, so I answer everywhere :\

As far as I know there are no SGTools giveaways, there are only SG giveaways here. SGTools is just a custom filter for entries.
Why should someone refrain from entering SG giveaways if they don't like SGTools?
I like SGTools as a tool showing CV stats and as a custom rule filter, but I don't agree with the direction it is going currently.

As nekomimibadik also said in one of his posts here, SGTools is pretending that they are selfproclaimed steamgifts police or administrators with those permanent bans in my opinion.
So what if knsys doesn't like my post about SGTools and decides to ban me, am I supposed to beg for forgiveness?
What if I get wrongly banned from SGTools and can't prove it?
I just dislike the idea of other SG users, who are not related to SG staff, having right to ban me from most of SG private/forum giveaways.

If you don't like where SGTools is going there's a very easy solution: don't use it (don't make and don't enter any SGTools giveaways). ^^

I'm having trouble with the conception that on the one hand one doesn't like something and on the other hand on uses that same something for ones own personal gain, in this case for winning games/gifts. :-)

But the thing is that most of those that are here so vocal in this thread about disliking SGTools or parts of SGTools still enter all SGTools giveaways they possibly can enter including some of mine. :-)

Has your life been so wonderful that you never had to do things you don't like or approve? Really I don't know how you can't understand such a simple thing...
Also no need to mention "own personal gain" here for extra drama. Except a few rare cases where giveaway creator personally requests your entry, entering giveaways has always been for "personal gain" regardless of the filter or method you use to enter.

some people think they are over sg rules with their filters. but no one will stop me from passing through sgtools checks, unless the creator blacklisted me. these people are no one to dictate who should enter forum giveaways.

Where do I pretend to be Steamgifts police or administrator? Because as far as I know, I'm the only admin on sgtools.

Trust me, I have better things to do than banning people for fun, but some people likes to think that I am a maniac who bans everybody while Steamgifts would never do that. Since the number of staff in steamgifts that is able to ban is far greater than in sgtools, it's more likely to have that case on steamgifts itself.

I think you overestimate what SGTools can do, in no way is able to ban you from any SG giveaway, it can only exclude you from a site that gives a url.

Apart, why do you keep talking about permabans? There is a strike system in the works, and a more than efficient and quick way to discuss about bans, far far quicker than steamgifts.

Permalink

First of all, I don't know you knsys, I won't pretend as if I do So looking at it neutrally, you are just another regular SG user. But the ban system gives you power and control over other SG users' entry rights and using that power for a personal issue as well is up to you.
I liked your site and what it offers as a stats and custom rules tool till now. But I just don't know why you try to force the use of an external banlist when SG already bans or suspends people even provides a personal blacklist. Probably you think SG rules and punishments are not harsh enough?

I think you overestimate what SGTools can do, in no way is able to ban you from any SG giveaway, it can only exclude you from a site that gives a url.

Without the url there is nothing to enter. So it does the same thing as a blacklist, prevents the entry. And since it is quite popular among forum users, a ban on SGTools pretty much means a global SG ban for puzzles and forum giveaways.

Apart, why do you keep talking about permabans? There is a strike system in the works, and a more than efficient and quick way to discuss about bans, far far quicker than steamgifts.

I am not sure where I can see what exactly is "in the works". I am just talking on the current state of the site, participating the discussion so things can get fixed/get better. It is good to know there are upcoming changes to the system that will make it better.

Ah, here you are, LostSoul, crying about me to someone else again.

Okay let's get a couple of things straight

  • I blacklisted you after you called me and my friends (yet you couldn't even tell me who my friends *are) cheaters and rule-breakers and continued to do so repeatedly. I even asked someone else how to resolve the situation and that person told me to just blacklist you. Plain and simple. By the by, you'd shit yourself if you knew who told me to blacklist you. I took their advice, nothing more.

  • I entered your giveaway to prove you wrong - no other reason. I've said as much. I never said it was "right", but it was done to make a point. Honestly, I had originally planned to refuse it, but after you were such a huge dick with your false accusations and your constant harassment, I decided to keep it. There's nothing in the rules that says I cannot enter the giveaways of someone I've blacklisted.

  • I never said I don't like SGTools - I said I don't like the perma-bans. In fact, just a few posts above, I said directly to knsys that I used to fully support sgtools 100% until the perma-bans, and have said the exact same thing multiple times in multiple threads.

  • Entering SGTools protected giveaways isn't hypocrisy. Entering giveaways is a function of Steamgifts, not SGTools.. There are no giveaways hosted on SGTools. None. Not one. In fact, SGTools is reliant on Steamgifts for its very existence. Besides, if the creators don't want me to enter, they're free to blacklist me. That will stop me from entering their giveaways. If you didn't want me entering yours, you should have blacklisted me. Period. I see you've now done so. Good. You now realize how it works.

This bullshit with you is starting to look like an obsession, particularly when you're crying about me to other people. Also - please don't presume to put words and reasons into my mouth - it's apparent you haven't a clue what I am thinking or doing (despite my saying exactly that multiple times), because you're just making things up now. Thanks.

Hi adam,
I'm not "trigger happy" but in my case (Victor Vran giveaway, please ignore the last (6) entries that were added through the Timezone problem) i'm pretty sure the (perma)ban is justified.

Since you are a well known member here at sg you certainly remember the christmas event 2015 from MellyMelly and the "drama" with leaked links from a russian board (and similar sg forum christmas events around this time) and surprise, surprise, the names of these "troublemakers" are also on the invalid entries list of sgtools.

So YES,these people deserve a (perma)ban because they are definitely repeat offenders !

You're right, I do remember it and I agree with you on that . Even on people you repeatedly cheat the system / break it's rules should not be tolerated afterwards - but I kind of recall you kind of voting on the SGTools topic to permaban violators after the first rule breaking. Though, I can't find in what topic and where was it because I'm way too sleepy :\ So I may be mistaken, if I am, then sorry.
I'm just getting so, so tired of seeing all these problems with cheapters, leakers, then problems because the oversight, while people still create new topics (according to Kysys the ban page shows the topic to go to sort it out)... it just generally, and almost literally makes me tired and disappointed because it's a recurring theme that people cheat wherever they can, and don't pay attention and skip reading useful or important information :(

The ban policy is quite easy to understand. If you enter a giveaway without a valid entry on sgtools or you leak a url or you misuse giveaway feedback to enter a protected giveaway you get banned if you get reported by a giveaway creator.

In theory the number of invalid bans should be nearly 0, but since we know that we are humans, since the very beginning of the banning, I've told thousands of times that bans can be revised.
The time has come when a timezone bug affected old giveaways (January 2016 or older) when listing invalid entries today, since Server was moved an old giveaways uses old timezone. So we are on the case of some of the bans that were applied those days that involved 3 month old giveaways are giving some false positives. We are unbanning those people after confirming they are affected.

About your opinion on steamgifts rules, I suggest you reread them again :)

Yea i'm against that idea aswell - sg official state you cant put custom rules for your giveaways, unless approved by mods, and they didnt approved them for ages, so all the do the backflip upon entry or no game for you is pure bullcrap, and all you can is blacklist that person and give him the game. But such feature as million rules in sgtools like only lvl 4 with 217 wins and 5 gives, who joined the site at the full moon, is against that statement.

You cannot ask users to perform any special action in order for their entry to be considered valid, such as liking a Facebook page, or following a Twitter account.

To clarify - this is in reference to putting special rules on the giveaway itself. Restricting access to giveaways via private giveaways is perfectly acceptable. Otherwise we would be breaking our own rules with level giveaways, group giveaways, private giveaways, etc.

Hmmm...

I'd say there are a few major differences between gleam.io and sgtools. sgtools is more of a passive application - most of the options (with exception of the VAC bans) uses data from steamgifts itself as a filter. It does not require the entrant to specifically perform any other task, other than to meet requirements that don't require additional work. gleam.io, on the other hand, does force the entrant to perform various tasks.

In addition, gleam.io may fall under the following section of our terms of service, since most applications are designed as essentially advertisements:

By making Content available, you represent and warrant that...the Content... does not contain unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites

I think this may fall into one of the grey areas. I had no part in writing the FAQ or Guidelines, so I'll need to consult with the other staff members lest I say something incorrect.

Invite Only

These giveaways are not publicly listed on the site, but rather remain hidden. Only users that know the URL of the giveaway will be able to enter for a chance to win. This allows you to privately share the giveaway link with friends, or outside communities. Many users also use these giveaways to create puzzles, and leave hints to help solve the URL.

Hint: You cannot put restrictions on joining a giveaway, not on getting the giveaway url

If you enter a giveaway without a valid entry on sgtools.

Steamgift rule says:
"Do not link or distribute private giveaway URL's unless expressly asked to do so by the giveaway's creator."

There are no special rules for those who have entered leaked giveaway even if he/she didn't know that giveaway was protected.
Yes - it's not a good action, but it's mistake/misunderstanding, not cheating.

Really cheaters are those who posted leaked links and those who don't read description inside giveaways . But not all people who enter leaked giveaways without description.

Yes. If user have entered giveaway from chat or board link (not SG site) - he can't know if this leaked giveaway, or maybe those who posted link asked permission by the giveaway's creator.
Only way to be 100% sure - is links from SG forum ((( But there are a lot SG-community outside of SG site.

So basically, if I hate some people, I can create/use another steam account and post my sgtools protected giveaway links on their forums, chat or steam groups. Then when they join my giveaway, I can report them as invalid entries and get them banned?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes. Many possibilities of speculation with this rule. You can post sgtools link on Steamgift-forum and give direct link on non-Steamgift-forum (for example - create new account for hiding your identity) , in this way some people will be banned even if they didn't try to be cheaters. A good way to make a joke (((

There is no way of knowing if giveaway's creator gave consent for posting link on board/chat or not (or maybe he/she posted link by himself).
There is life outside SteamGift forum and different people published links on different forums, boards or chats...

....so this is always your excuse for entering any GA you want even if you are not (personally) invited ? What's the point of a private/invite ga only if everyone can join because he/she has found a link (chat, board, friend ?)

Why do you think you are always welcome (and allowed to enter) a private/invite only giveaway ? Because you found a link or a "friend" told you "It's ok." ?

What's the point of a private/invite ga only if everyone can join because he/she has found a link (chat, board, friend ?)

The point is very simple.
Not all game-communities on different forums have Steam groups (or even sometimes have groups, but giveaways posted as private). So, users just create private giveaways and post link in forum among other discussion posts, and everyone who visit forum can enter giveaway and welcome.
As example - ixbt (big hardware forum with Steam-games topic).

If someone posts leaked sgtools giveaway link - he is true perpetrator.
But if he got direct link - it means he passed SGTools verification. And SGTools system think he is innocent. Is this justly?

You seem to think that SGTools uses the same rules as Steamgifts to ban, that is not how it is.

For sgtools a cheater is everyone that bypasses or facilitate the bypassing of the protections. There are varios levels of cheaters, and of course people entering giveaways without the valid sgtools entry is the lowest of them.

I'll try to be as direct and clear as posible.

  1. Since it's an Invite Only giveaway, an invalid entry is the one that got the link from another source than the owner (Steamgifts rules)
  2. Entering a SGTools protected giveaway without using sgtools is punished with a ban on SGTools (SGTools rules), no penalty is applied on Steamgifts since it's not against it's rules.
  3. SGTools giveaway part doesn't break any Steamgifts rule per se.

From the time I entered one leaked giveaway (without any description inside) - I understood it.
But you base your project on Steamgift-site and Steamgift-giveaways. And I (same as another users) expected that rules may be the same.
There are no official Rules / FAQ page on sgtools.info website with descriptions of all limitations / prohibitions / bans and differences with Steamgift rules !!! It is not right that users must go to Steamgift forum and search SGTools rules there...
If I had seen Rules / FAQ page on sgtools.info - likely I would be more careful (same as another people who was banned for entering leaked giveaways). But you do not give even chances.

It seems that the issue had nothing to do with leaked URLS, so that clear up doesn't seem to clear up must in this case...

It seems that when the servers moved, the time difference between both locations was not accounted for, so it made it look like people were entering the SGTools after they had entered the giveaway and after the giveaway ended, making it look like they were bypassing the sgtools.

If this is wrong, people someone correct me.

Yes, I got unbanned. What he said above isn't fair: "It doesn't really seem fair to ban someone permanently from SGTools from something that may come from ignorance".

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, if the GA-creator put an SGTools "disclaimer" (e.g., you must have passed the SGTools test to enter this giveaway, etc."), then it's not necessarily "ignorance," although that doesn't mean it was malicious.
There is an appeal system-- I don't know how he decides whether to unban or not. But you also don't want people who really did just try to cheat to be able to say, "oh I didn't know" and have everything be okay. It seems like a gray area to me.
But for what it's worth, I don't think your scenario informs whether or not the policy is fair or not, since yours was due to a bug and you were unbanned-- that's why I was confused.

Well, nothing is perfect in this world right? Before fixing SGtools, someone should fix other bigger issues that affect more members of the comunity (retroactivity of bundles for example).
I never used SGtools but if I ever wanted to keep out rule-breakers from my GAs it would be quite useful. Why would I use it now? Because I had some bad experiences with my last trains.

But retroactive bundles is the job of steamgifts, not sgtools. You can just reroll in order not to let rule breakers to win your giveaways.

All I wanted to say is that this issue seems to affect minimal part of the comunity, bugs in scripted stuff can exist and can also be fixed. But that's no reason to doubt about SGtools or to invent cospiracies behind it as some people did in this thread.

+1

Mostly inflated and artificially induced drama by those that are either cheaters and/or leakers and were caught before this time issue or those that have a hidden agenda concerning SGTools but still do like so much to enter and win SGTools giveaways... :-)

Comment has been collapsed.

As long as people behind SGT can be approached and talked to reasonably, I don't think there's an issue. Shit happens, bugs are all over the world, even big guys like Microsoft and Apple were hit many times because of their own mistakes. But eh...

From what I can see from the top to the bottom is just a few individuals lambasting SGT for personal reasons.

....and to think they're so passionate on ganging up on something leaves so many question marks.

Seriously though, if you are sincerely telling the truth and you didn't do anything wrong, contact the creator(whose name escapes me but I don't see it much anyways - It's a very in-and-out tool). I'm pretty sure he's a great guy and SGTools isn't fully completed from what I gather.

Ehm, first of all, the problem has been solved. They were saying that I first entered a giveaway and I passed the sgtools check afterwards. Where's the logic in that? Why would I do that? And even if I haven't passed the sgtools check at all, wouldn't it be pathetic to cheat in order to participate in a giveaway that I would most probably not win? Anyway, they didn't calculate the different timezones, so it wasn't my fault. But well, maybe I'm a serial cheater and cheating is in my blood - you never know. xD Also, I want some popcorn too. :( Start reading the comments, because they're many. xD

You mean I should care about blacklists? I should have cowered in the darkness because they banned me unreasonably? :P I don't care about blacklists. I only care about being called a cheater. And it's hard to understand why people, that I never participated in their giveaways, would blacklist me, but meehhh, it's their choice, so who cares? XD Still, people would hate me because I complained about being unreasonably banned? Anyway, I haven't noticed any new blacklists.......yet, but they are welcome.

Well, good on you for being the bigger person after the hell you caught. :)

Unfortunately, you weren't the only one banned. There were 21 others, and because of a giveaway from 3 months ago, before the bans were being used. That raises a few questions for me, including the motive behind reporting such an old giveaway (and why it was even considered).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know why. Dragomania was checking out his old giveaways and saw that some new invalid entries suddenly appeared. That was due to some new rules, which were implemented, without taking the different timezones into consideration. Thing is, why on Earth would someone enter a giveaway and then try to pass the sgtools check afterwards? Because he will have changed his ratio or his cv till then? So? Can't he still just wait till his ratio or cv is changed, then pass the sgtools check, and then enter the giveaway? :/

Well it could work that I barely hit the ratio requirement, but I need a few hours (fast giveaways + being accepted) so I ask a friend who can enter - enter, then later pass the gate and hope that it won't get noticed like that.
Bus it's a super-rare thing, simply because you need the almost okay entry, a friend, way to pass the filter later and the willingness to do this. And it just happened to a little too many people to be random.
Classic case of " it can happen, but if it actually happens (on a larger scale) it's suspicious"
