So I found myself re-watching the Return of the King directors cut for some odd reason. And I got to thinking that there were a LOT of movies with epic battle scenes and we all like one or the other the best.

For me, it will always be the Battle for Minas Tirith in the Return of the King. Followed closely by the showdown of Mathew Modine and the sniper girl in the Battle of Huế from Full Metal Jacket.

So, I know we will argue over this here and that was the intention of it all. What are your most epic movie battles, single combat or full out wars, in movies?

There are a lot of good choreographics battles and fights but I love this specially from Matrix Reloaded:

EDIT: I rememoried this fight, and is better than the Matrix one, from Rurouni Kenshin (the video is in spanish):

This is a great sequence cinematically. But logically, the battle makes no sense at all.

The Raid: Redemption is probably my pick for this, it's full of nail biting moments and adrenaline pumping fights.

Yep. This traditional "epic battle" format is just so boring - unlike Edgar Wright's approach.

Baahubali: The Beginning has a very good large scale Lord of the Rings type battle in about the last 1/3 of the movie. There is some drama and it takes a awhile to get there; but for me, I felt the movie was pretty good for Bollywood.

The fight scenes in Vidocq are pretty good. Despite fairly stylized presentation they don't shy away from dirty blows etc.

the excerpts of the troyan war and the duel between ettore and achille portrayed in the movie troy, based on omero's poem iliade (a recommended read btw, followed by the odissea and the eneide, among the oldest and most important works of aryan literature).

Obviously this. It's from a TV show, but it's one of the best TV battles ever.
