It did offend me a bit... Just because I am a girl does not mean I default to animal games and princess and pink stuff. I play all sorts of games and love different things. .. but I'm sure there are many others that might be offended more.

Women don't just love animal games. Men do too. And no matter what gender someone identifies with, there's bound to be some animal lover who loves to play games featuring the caretaking of animals.

Girly is a very strong and very stereotyped word and I think we should move away from trying to frame games as a binary of boy or girl games. Games are for everyone. Girls play all types of games, from FPS to gory games to horror games to Barbie to etc. Barbie might SEEM a "girly" game, but in all honesty, boys can play it too. We as a society shouldn't limit our gaming preferences just because of some stigmatized gender roles that we feel we should and have to conform to. I grew up loving Mario kart, Tekken fighting games, and all sorts of genres not typically classified as girly.

I think you are being honest about your preferences, and I think because of the generation we grew up in, there is still that black and white thinking of boy and girl games. But that was then and this is now, a more progressive era where we are beginning to accept and embrace a culture where things are made for everyone.

I think you are right to have your own tastes in games and express how these animal games are not your cup of tea, however, I think we should respect all genders in gaming and not think of games as being classified for a single gender.

I don't think you meant to offend people, but sometimes how you piece your words together are very important and as shown below, I don't think people take your words lightly. There's a big difference in not liking games with animals vs not like a game because it seems only "girls" would play it.

I'm not here to give you a big lecture or anything, but these are words that are taken from my heart and I don't mean to bash you or anything. This is how I see things, this is how I wish people could see things (as games not being labeled as a gender, but by their quality and content), and I do accept your apology

But I would like to make a point that it's not just girl gamers we should respect. We should accept ALL gamers, no matter what gender they identify with, and their preferences of games. We are all unique and shouldn't be judged for our gender, but for our characters
