The Ball is in your court now. What will you do?

[T1] How Xotic , bundle inception again!
[T2] Dear wallet, I appologize in advance for Betraying you.
[T3] I'm going for the Epic Edition of this bundle.
[Have] Greatest Hits? More like Greatest repeats.
[Skip] If these are "Greatest Hits" according to Groupees standards, then it will probably not be difficult for me to dodge bullets for the next few months (at least).

I'm confused why this is a thing.

I'm confused why you attacking Groupees is a thing. Sure they have some ways to go to improve but they don't deserve hate.

I dont think it was a straight up attack. Still Grupees pretty much became synonymous with bottom of the barrel showelware as far as their games are concerned.

I am honestly not sure what they bring to the PC bundle market at the moment. There was a time where they had their own niche. I bought several bundles from them. But they've been going downhill for a while now.

Anyone who engages in exploitative business practices like blind preorders deserves whatever criticism they get.... in particular when the quality of the content is consistently lacking (and using the word "lacking" is being kind here)..... and they have been doing this for a long time. It's a dishonest practice. Though so is what Fanatical has been doing with all of the mystery keys stuff lately so they aren't alone in that.

edit: of course there was no blind purchase on this one so kudos for not doing that for once. And yes, Humble Monthly is a semi-blind purchase but at least you get to see the headliner(s) first and you know that they have the clout to provide premium quality titles. People like to debate the quality of each one but putting aside personal tastes I can't really think of one offhand where I would say it didn't offer good value for the money. Not so with Groupees game bundles. Well, not for a very long time anyway.....

Definitely will buy Tier 2 for The Cat Lady, such a great game.

Did you know that The Cat Lady is the first in a trilogy? 2nd game is called Downfall and the third is Lorelai.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I certainly didn't!
I've just checked the two other games... Hum I wouldn't call that a trilogy since the subsequent titles aren't revolving around the same protagonist. Yeah, I was expecting the other games to have Susan as the main character. But I've wishlisted them anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

The main characters in each game are completely different but there's some character overlap that tie the games together. At least until I get a chance to buy and play Lorelai, don't have that one yet myself.

Actually Downfall was the first game, it just got some more polish before being released on Steam and therefor appeared as if it was the second.

Grab Bag is in highest tier and can include non-game items according to its description?

One of the possible games for grab bag according to chat is Call of Juarez

Guns of Icarus Alliance was marked No CV in ~June 2018. IIRC that was when Humble gave it away.
Also, best CV you can get for Xotic DLC Bundle is 0.30 if someone gives it away as one of the 3 DLC that the sub includes.
Doesn't matter to me since I'm getting T1 and keeping Xotic+DLC. Thanks for the rundown on Groupees!

You mean "This", right? ;p :D
Too bad I'm only interested in the Grab Bag and it's a bummer that Groupees forces me to buy the whole bundle for it.

Edit: lol, couldn't resist and just bought it and luckily got my CoJ, yay! :D

Soooo... I get it they probably had too many leftovers but to make that pass as a Be Mine bundle... and some kind of best of at that... really, Groupees? That's cringy.

Well that's depending on a lot of people coming back to the site to buy who may have abandoned it long ago. But yes that'd be nice to see Groupees get back on the map.

I bet this will easily be one of the best selling bundles in Groupees history

Considering that a lot of buyers are bundle addicts and thus, probably have the majority if not all the games already, I doubt it. But time will tell. :)

Games/price choice, could be a lot better for 3$ instead of 4$. Just a 1$ but the difference will be notable

I have all but 3 from the whole pack, but this is pretty cool, kind of a blast from the past. I do remember getting most of these games from exactly them :)
Betrayer, The Cat Lady, Ring Runner, Ittle Dew, Xotic, The Ball - pretty unique and well-rounded games. especially The Ball. harr harr Not fresh so not as great for many of us, but this is a pretty decent bundle IMO.

I might be too cynical, but Groupees inflating the number of bundle sold wouldn't surprise me at all. I'm not thinking about this one in particular though.

Edit: Who's this Jo / Jonathan person? The guy bought the full bundle (at least) five times. O_o Weird.

well dropping bonus goals and increasing the number of top contributor prizes would do the trick. (Or in the case of the BABs, doing the one game min helps)

dropping bonus goals

Which they have done in the past.

I really am curious on if those "bonus" games and albums were contracted to specific bundles or just to be sold in one bundle (that can altered based on if those bonus thresholds are met)

I do think this kind of highlights just how much bundles have changed over the years. That tier 1 really does not look overly exciting by modern standards, but when Groupees started doing game bundles, people praised it. All in all though, not a bad bundle.

Yeah, bundle is over. You did not miss out on a whole lot :P It was an alright bundle, I just found it interesting that the $1 tier was considered really good at $6 back in 2012. How things change, eh?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Probably because it was a new thing back then and Groupees seemed to concentrate on (good?) indie games and not shovelware like I've seen lately. Nowadays, it looks like they will bundle any game just to have bundles to sell. I might be too harsh on them too, but this is how I feel about them now

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I just went through my purchase history, and they wanted $6 for what was the $1 tier in this bundle.
Wasteland Angel
Sideway
Xotic + DLC
BEEP
The Ball
Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals

Imagine paying $6 for that kind of bundle today!
But yeah, at least it was not just all shovelware, some of those games might not have been the best, and by modern bundle standards that's a pretty high price, but they were functional games.
