Hey all, its your local Zoidberg again and it is time to make the bank regret their decision on giving me credit :D.

The challenge is simple: Play and beat 5 out of the top 24 games (according to Steam reviews), starting today, that you currently own in one month.

The prize: 5x Hades
Note: This means I'm giving away five copies of the game and will have 5 winners.

Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 5 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 5 +30h games. So long as they are one of your top games, we are good. Also, price of the game does not matter. If the game is free, that is okay.

How to enter: Post a comment with a screenshot showing your steam library sorted by "Steam Review" (example below - Picture 1). Also include either screenshots/achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add you on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.

FAQ:

What if have already played most or all of my top games?

First, congrats! :D
Second, screw you, you show off -.- jealous
Third, scroll down a row and take two screenshots. One showing the original top games in your library. The second showing the new row of games which include the ones you played for this event. (Example below - Picture 2)

How far down can I scroll? Can I scroll indefinitely? :D

-.-

I'm allowing 3 extra rows of games. That is 8 per row or 24 extra games for a total of 48. If you are still unable to find 5 games within that group, you can keep scrolling down with the condition that you have no more than 10 games to choose from. I.e. You can only go pass your top 48 if you have already played at least 38 your top games. Next three rows would put you at 72; you need to play at least 62 before going to the next 24 and so and so forth.

What about that other event "Monthly in a month"? Can one game count for both events?

I was on the fence about this one but the answer is yes. If you play a game that satisfies the conditions of this event and the other event (either the one that is currently running and the next edition which starts on Friday), then it can be applied to both. Just keep in mind that the other event doesn't start until the new HB Choice/Monthly launches, so if you play a game now with the intention of having it apply to both, you need to wait till after HB releases the new bundle on Friday. Otherwise, you could only apply it to the edition which is about to end this weekend.*

I want you guys to have fun. I don't need you guys to hate me for making you play 11 games this month. :p

Why 5/24?

24 since it is the most I could fit in a screenshot by putting the steam client on full screen. 5 seemed like a decent target.

Event ends on Jan 1st, 10pm EST. For all that is holy, do not wait till the last minute to submit your entry. I do not need to spend New Year's Day refreshing the thread to make sure I got everyone.

Good luck, have fun and stay safe.

P.S. Feel free to comment below your thoughts about the event and your answer to the poll.

How to sort by "Steam Review":

  • Go to Library > Home on the steam client
  • Either make a new shelf (by clicking "Add Shelf") or scroll down to the one at the bottom which should be set for "All Games". If making a new shelf, click in the dropdown arrow beside "Choose A Shelf" and select "All Games"
  • Besides "All Games", you should see "Sort By" and a drop down which will default to "Alphabetical". Click on the drop down and at the very bottom, you will see "Steam Review". Click it and it will sort by review (Highest to lowest) and show you the score.

Don't care since only nerds play video games.

I didn't know how to put rows of 8 games (I could only manage to put rows of 7 or 9 games), so I took 2 screenshot of 3 rows of 9 games, but I will only be counting the first 48 games for my first selection (and, anyways, I already played the games 49-56 that got on the screenshot). Here they go (the ones I already played are marked with the crosses).

Bot Vice beaten: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198415650031/stats/appid/491040/achievements
Escape Goat 2 beaten: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2314693865 (no achievement for finishing the game)
Detention beaten: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198415650031/stats/appid/555220/achievements ("Back to School" is the achievement for the good ending, "Everyone Loves You" the one for the bad ending).
The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters beaten: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198415650031/stats/appid/1045720/achievements
Darkwood beaten: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198415650031/stats/appid/274520/achievements (Bliss is the achievement for finishing the epilogue).

A really great and fun event. Overall, I like this more than the monthly bundle one, because, while on that one you need to own some specific games, over here the only requirement is to actually have games unplayed, And you have to play games between the top-rated... why would I complain? (Maybe because some of them take a really high amount of hours, so it could be hard to finish 5, but it shouldn't be hard to mix long and short games).
And thank you for proposing this. Thanks to you, I ended up playing some really good games that I hadn't even touched. I particularly liked Detention and Darkwood (despite all the suffering and frustration sometimes).

I would really liked if this continues during the next months. I hope you do so.
Thanks again.

yeah I read that bit when searching. I found neither a deny or confirmation for free games but don't think I could do it. Its like 70-30 that I will just drop it. I do have a couple of games free at my top with eternal senia being one I would keep because I enjoy

Hey sorry for the late reply, looks like I missed this one :/.

As for Grimm, I'm going to go by how it is described on wikipedia:

American McGee's Grimm is a 23-part episodic video game series based upon Grimm's Fairy Tales, designed by American McGee, developed by Spicy Horse and distributed online initially by GameTap starting July 31, 2008.

The full game is playing all 23 episodes and as such, I need proof of you playing all 23 for it to count.

Hello, no problem! I also participate in your other event so I have games which fit both here and there. I also would like to know about Orbit XL, it's kinda infinite but at the same time you can complete it by getting all achievemnts (in any case I have second backup game, just curious).

From the Steam page:

An endless, fast paced and challenging arcade style game play that constantly gets harder

I'm going to say no since I generally disallow all endless type games, sorry.

Thanks for running this event. Unlike the Monthly one, I think I may actually have a slim shot of doing this. Shame that games with playtime are ineligible - I have so many games that I've barely touched or didn't play at all that are excluded.

Anyway, here's my list:

  • Eternal Senia - Beaten - It's free, which is why it's rated so highly, and entertaining enough, but not really worth your time.
  • Neighbours From Hell - Beaten - Simple, repetitive puzzle game is simple, repetitive, and kinda boring. It's at least short. It picks up towards the latter levels, but ends soon afterwards. I don't know why it's rated so highly.
  • Nekopara Extra - Beaten - Cute, silly cat girls are cute, silly, and surprisingly amusing.
  • Nekopara 3 - Beaten - Same as above.
  • Planetarian - Beaten - A poorly written VN that reads like fan fiction and stars a deeply unlikable protagonist an incredibly annoying android. I found it a chore to slog through. Why did this get such good ratings? Have these people never read an actual decent novel?

Edit: And all 5 finally beaten. 3/5 are games I would not recommend. Lesson learned is: don't trust Steam reviews. ;)

it's time to play Portal then! yeah, I know, I know ><
My games:

Game Achievs Status
Portal 8/15 Beaten
Gunpoint 42/42 Completed
Agent A: A puzzle in disguise 14/30 Finished
Tsioque 24/31 Finished
Smile for me 24/24 Completed

edit: short thoughts
Portal & Gunpoint — must-play (Gunpoint is a must-play for puzzle lovers, at least)
Agent A — neutral rating, a quality game in "escape room" genre, but was too easy. May be good for young(er) players.
Tsioque — neutral, short p'n'c, but with a plot-twist
Smile for me — neutral-good. It's weird and I like weird, but can't say it's in "don't skip" category

Well. My wife and kids will extra love me for trying to participate in this one :f Welp. I've used a bit of extra rows but i guess trying to beat Mordor thingy will excuse rest of my rather shorter picks.
Edit: Turns out i've wasted my time for playing games from accidently filtered steam list. I'm not sure if i have time to try 5 more again but i guess i can try. My wife still love me :P Yes. Even GRIS wont count since it was at ~56th position.

Second is Pajama Sam in No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside Also Done.
Third is Detention Completed. Yes.
Fourth is Glass Masquarade. 100%. Yes.
Fifth Hotline Miami. Beaten. Yes.

Excuse me, Tewam, but something seems very off on that picture of yours for me. For someone with a 3000 games library I found it odd to see your games reach the 96% mark in the first row already and I cross checked your library with mine. On your picture are many games with higher percentages missing - while being in your library, like:
Don't Escape: 4 Days to Survive
Kind Words
One Finger Death Punch
Portal
Portal 2
Day of the Tentacle Remastered
Dishonored
Enigmatis 2: The Mists of Ravenwood
Finding Paradise
Glass Masquerade
Hexcells Infinite
Hook
Hotline Miami
Left 4 Dead 2
Rakuen
South Parkâ„¢: The Stick of Truthâ„¢
...
Here's where I stopped, but the list goes on. Looks like something went wrong with your library sorting.

Welp. It was first time of me using this sorting thing for sake of this event. Only thing that could go wrong would be "uncategorizated games" instead of "all games" but even with all games sorted by review score it gives me very similar list. Yes.
Edit: Oh... I see where i've made mistake. I guess sarficing family time was all for nothing after all...

Thematically it's a sequel, mainly using the themes of the first game extreme guilt on one's job, and being torn between job and conscience as a starting point. Otherwise I don't think there is really a big amount of plot points to remember to.

I just beat my 1st game so I'll bump this up and answer the question. I wouldn't mind this being an actual event again, just like the monthly one we can choose whether we take part or not. It was fun actually seeing how many games I had done and see some surprising ones that I thought would be much lower or even higher.

Of course there's a few complications you might want to take part in both and if you don't have a couple of hb games that fit you could possibly end up doing 11.
Like someone mentioned above the free games could end up causing a problem with you adding a bunch of short ones, I ended up with 1 bonus free game entering my top 24 but not enough to completely messing up everything. If need be just set a limit on how many free games you can add or at least a time limit between them since there are a couple of long games like everlasting summer that took longer then a bunch of my other top 24 games.
Finally sequels, I've seen a couple of mentions on that to and I get it. As I currently stood I didn't have many sequels to complain about but I know my umineko game was the 2nd part. The 1st part is far down and they are not short at all. Going off by hltb time they are like 40 hours each so 80 for 1 is a bit of a task

The above problems I saw and I agree with but also disagree with them. The 1st problem doesn't really matter to me. I only just took part in the past 2 monthly threads and I'm sure if I did again I could easily put the effort in to do the 11 if needed. It's more of a problem with others but this one is more lenient. We get at least 10 games to choose from and unlike hb games we probably won't run out on choices to quickly
The free games don't really bother me either way, I tend to drop them alot so I probably wouldn't bother adding them and don't see myself running into a problem where I need to play more then 1 if any. If other people choose to do so is up to them and you if you agree they can have a bunch.
The sequels again I get that, I mentioned about mine but just like the free part we have plenty to choose from so hopefully you won't run into to much trouble. I feel like its more of a case by case situation, like an example above witcher while preferred to play in order apparently doesn't need to be played like that. While games like walking dead kinda do need to be done in order so it would be nice if season 2 was at the top but not 1 you could be allowed just the game before it and not of course the remaining games after.

Bit of a long post but we got a poll up above if I was just gonna be like sure lets carry this on! I don't mind how it is currently but it wouldn't be bad if it was slightly approved, problem is it requires work. The example I gave above about sequels requires checking to make sure its allowed and could easily cause problems if its like the final part in like a 8 part series
