Ricochet 2, Spacewar 2, Codename Gordon 2 will be confirmed. GabeN's just saying 3 to lead us astray of the truth!

Well, teaser site says some bullshit about expanding Steam further into living room. I wouldn't hold my breath on game announcements.
EDIT. The picture also looks disturbingly similar to The Ring. Not a good sign.

That seems to be a star of some sort. Imagine a picture of the sun with lowered brightness and that's what it looks like.
I'm more concerned about the circles below that. One is just a Circle, another has a circle in brackets with room for another circle, and the last one is Circle + Circle.
This makes me think that they will all be linked. Maybe Steam Box, Steam Mobile, and linked play between all Steam devices?

I thought it was really weird that the Sony/Valve team up was only for Portal 2. Kinda sucks. Was hoping for more.

maybe the steam box will be intergrated into steam tvs

Hats per hats graph killed me, it even has dips and jumps somehow

My guess beside the obvious Steam Box announcement next week would be for Steam Family Sharing as one of the later announcements maybe in one or two months - would fit perfectly towards the "expanding in the living room" theme and the beta is about to start these days.

At this point I think Gaben just likes fucking with people with the number 3

Anyone hoping for games needs to examine the actual announcement page. I think they tried to be very clear about one thing through all that vagueness: This has nothing to do with games. It's all about "Steam in the living room," which has nothing to do with new game announcements. Steambox (I bet they end up not calling it that because of Xbox) guesses are probably spot on. The page also mentions "adding you to our design process," which seems to suggest some sort of user input program. Number three? Not sure.

So release a console and have no exclusives?
(Although dickish, so maybe not something they would do, but what they could do,) they could announce Half Life Episode 3 one week/month exclusively on the steambox before hitting steam itself. The same could happen with L4D3.
Why should anyone who already owns a PC buy a steambox? The timed exclusiveness on the console could be a great reason. Some fans wouldn't want to wait I imagine. (Though I guess this could lead to spoilers hitting the internet and people not wanting the game after being spoiled. But meh all games are leaked and spoiled nowadays.)
Honestly, I don't see who the steambox is aimed for. Console players already have their eyes on PS4/Xbone/WiiU. PC players already have a PC. I guess it could grab and take away the console players if they marketed it right. And maybe some people would buy a steambox instead of making a PC.

I don't think they'd announce exclusives the same time they announce the console, and I don't get the draw of a Steambox either. It seems superfluous. Either way, though, I don't think they'd make L4D3 or Half-Life (Episode?) 3 their exclusives. Those two are their biggest commodities game-wise (considering all platforms), and making them exclusives to a platform which has yet to be proven in any way would be rather foolish (especially since similar attempts, such as the Ouya have not been particularly wild successes); even temporary exclusivity could cause a significant loss of profit since games often (for consoles, at least) sell most at or around release, and the fire of desire for those games could have died down for the vast majority of consumers (as in not us who are fanatical Steam users) by the time the exclusivity period ended.

Well they have to have something to lure in PC users. Maybe exclusive skins? Though that doesn't seem like much. I think an exclusive steam badge would be a given. Beta access to all future source games maybe?
They have to have something to entice the PC crowd to get one. If the steambox was just a console that had steam, no PC user would give any fucks. And I imagine Valve is smart enough to know that.

I'm not sure. Valve doesn't seem to be much about exclusive map packs/games/etc. So it's hard to imagine what they'd have for their own console's exclusives. You're definitely right on the trading cards, and you gotta get the inevitable Steambox hat in TF2 (while you get murdered by anyone using a mouse). I think they might just end up betting on the hope that there's enough demand for that sort of console. Demand for the device itself will always be a much bigger cause of sales over any sort of exclusives. Even if the Steambox sells horribly, the majority of the sales that do happen will be because someone wanted a Steambox, not so they can get some game exclusive to the console (temporarily for sure, if it's a big game).
But if they DO have an exclusive game, hm... Obviously Counter-Strike would be a no go as an exclusive since Valve respects that series' very dedicated mouse-loving crowd. I can't see them making a Team Fortress 3 for a very long time if at all (with the very successful hats system and still highly active online community), and that game's also strongest with a mouse. As mentioned before, Left 4 Dead and Half-Life are both too big to be exclusive. I think you know what I'm getting at: Alien Swarm 2 exclusive to the Steambox!!! Just kidding. Portal 3. If there is any big exclusive that's not new IP, it'll be that game. Anyone who adores Valve adores the Portal and Half-Life series above all else, so Portal 3 exclusive (temporarily) to the Steambox might be enough to convince them to buy one. Since Portal isn't about accuracy, a mouse isn't that important in playing it, so it's the perfect game out of all of Valve's big IPs to focus on for their controller-based platform.

I was just thinking about it, and you said they have to do something to entice the PC-users to get one. However, I think maybe they devised the idea of a Steambox so that they can dip into the console market and steal consumers from there. They already have the PC market in the palms of their beautiful, sausage-fingered hands, but they don't have much of any grasp on the people who use exclusively consoles for their gaming. I'm sure they'd love to get people who game mostly on the PC, but I don't think that's their primary target. People game on the PC because they like the highest def graphics, customization, and mice, among many other things. A Steambox loses all of that, for the most part (if it's going to be affordable for the average consumer). So I think our entire discussion is moot.

Steam is a PC software. They won't make game exclusives to the toy box because Steam is a PC SOFTWARE THAT NEEDS A PC TO BE RUN OF.
Though I agree, why buying another PC, just buy a big TV, then take a long HDMI to your "living room" and there you go, you have your games on your living room.

The Steambox will most certainly run a version of Steam, by the way. That's the whole idea. It will basically be a PC running Linux focused purely on gaming.

"We have three announcements to make beginning with the first one on Monday morning." (Not sure if they are all next week or not. It isn't very specific.)
-Steam Box.
-Left for Dead 3
-Half Life 3(/Half Life 2 Episode 3)
That's my guess. They already announced source 2 kinda, though I guess that could be an announcement as well.
He has to be he know's he teasing people by saying the number 3.
EDIT: Mysterious page.
Also would like to add. If you didn't know already L4D3 was leaked a few months ago. (Just a little bit of code.) From a valve tour. However it hasn't been announced yet. (Other stuff was leaked before that too I recall, but can't remember it.)
And Source 2 was "announced" awhile back too.
