Ron Gilbert got productive during the pandemic and came up with a spinoff to Thimbleweed Park
More context: https://www.grumpygamer.com/what_i_did_during_the_pandemic
tldr: You don't need to own Thimbleweed Park to get it. He is experimenting with rewriting his engine and came up with a new story, reusing assets

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1305720 (Complimentary, mixed opinions about it being +1 or not)
https://www.epicgames.com/store/product/thimbleweed-park/delores (+1)

Cheers
edit: to anyone interested, the game needs DirectX 12 to work, so a lot of integrated graphics chipsets are not compatible
edit2: edited to avoid confusion, and thanks to everyone for the input on +1, "free" and f2p. cheers

Does not add +1 and you can remove it from library from settings (like a free to play game like it is)

I see. I will edit the OP then.
It does get added to the library on Epic, though.

The Steam recommendations are a joke. It's like they don't even use the tags from the games themselves, which would have brought at least more relative results.

Who in his senses will play it on Epic when it's free on Steam?!

Easy! People, who don´t care about launchers. They play just the game to have fun!

Why use launchers then if they just play games and not launchers?

The same kind of people who write stuff like "f2p on Steam, $0 to buy on Epic" ?

The game's clearly free, not free 2 play. The wording implies it's a better deal on Epic.

I could easily chalk this up to language barriers, however, having seen enough of SteamGifts, I can't help being more cynical than that.

Steam makes a sharp distinction between "free" and "free to play" [in the sense of both being possible, seperate listing configurations, and are notably distinct from one another in regards to how they generate Steam Trading Cards], with the latter exclusively relating to microtransaction games, so in the case of Steam it isn't just an incorrect impression, but an outright mislabeling. Further, I think most places make that same distinction now, so it seems as though it'd be a confused terminology application regardless of specific context.

The terminology used for Epic is, of course, far more odd, given how atypical that formatting is and the fact that it isn't present anywhere on the [Epic version's] store page. So the fact that the OP is making a distinction for each platform [versus simply stating "[Free] on both Steam and Epic"] AND getting the terminology incorrect for both platforms is, certainly, rather curious.

This listing also doesn't suit either a [FREE] tag or a categorization into the Deals subforum.
Conversely, the OP did include all the relevant links, which I've noticed a lot of recent threads skipping over, so that's appreciable.

Anyway, you kinda tangented from Borsch's question. To add to Borsch's perspective, it's worth noting that many still find Epic's client far too cumbersome to use, relative to the Steam client. So their question is actually legitimate, without factoring in platform bias. Then again, I think their actual intention was "Why is it free on both", so your response was probably appropriate nonetheless.

You can add the game to your library on steam as a complimentary license, so it works like a free to play game on the platform, and does not +1 (varied reports about this, as I originally reported it as +1 and got told otherwise itt)
You can add it to your library on epic, having to put it in your cart for $0 and check out, working the same way they do with the freebies.
I'm not "implying", I'm openly pointing out the difference, and it's actually a better deal, because Steam can offer the same with the Add to your account button, but this time it's not the case.
Cheers
edit: I edited the OP to address the surprising concerns about my choice of words and "implied" intentions. lol
edit2: I edited this post, too, adding info, and rewording. I will probably think twice before sharing a game here seeing the scrutiny and double entendre. stay safe, guys

so it works like a free to play game on the platform.

Free means "you don't pay for the base game, and there are no microtransactions" and, in the case of Steam, "you unlock Trading Cards after purchasing a DLC".

Free-To-Play means "you don't pay for it, but it has microtransactions" and, in the case of Steam, "you unlock 1 Trading Card per $9 spent in-game".

This difference in application is typical for non-Steam utilizations of the terms, as well.

Ergo, "f2p" would be misleading, or even inaccurate.

You can add it to your library on epic, having to put it in your cart for $0 and check out, working the same way they do with the freebies.

As you noted, that's Epic's approach to freebies. And while the cart does note the $0, that's just because freebies are handled through the checkout system, which isn't an unusual practice. On the store pages themselves, the freebies simply say "Free" and "Get", no mention of a price tag. As weirdfish indicated, applying a price tag- even one of $0- tends to give a more awkward impression.

As both platforms use "free", it's just incredibly odd to use anything other than "free on both Steam and Epic" to reference the matter. By seperating it and choosing to use more precise terms than just "free", it does sound as though you're trying to convey something.

and it's actually a better deal,

As does this, though I'm not quite sure why you're feeling it's a better deal? The explanation doesn't make sense to me.

/

Side-note, if you're informing someone of a comment that's nearby, it'd be appreciable to note that fact. Since I use SteamGifts a lot on tablet, reloading the page (by following a link) when I could have scrolled just a smidge further can feel a bit cumbersome.

I considered it a deal

"Deal" (as well as [FREE], in contrast to a non-bracketed Free) is used on SG to reference things that are limited-time and/or limited stock. Since this is a permanently free offering it would fall under the expectations of the "General" category, instead.

This distinction is one the community typically favors for two reasons:
First, perma-free items are lower priority, so they don't need to be in a high-priority category, and can come across as spammy when they're there.
Second, there are countless perma-free items out there, so such threads will inevitably become a spammy influence on the Deals section regardless (though there's an argument for putting any kind of condensed freebie thread- for example, "all free games on Steam, sorted by genre"- in the Deals forum rather than the general forum, as one could emphasize that visibility would be appropriate for such a thread and, likewise, the nature of such a thread inhibits spam rather than promotes it).

Similarly, [FREE] exists to draw attention to limited time free offers, as they're especially high-priority. Hence why the tag is exclusively utilized for such offers.

If any mods want to delete this thread then, they are welcome to do it, if it goes against the rules or whatever

The Open in the top right corner not only allows you to edit your thread, but also to close it. Neither Support nor Moderators can delete threads, they can only close them. Only SuperModerators are able to delete threads. As such, there's usually no real difference a user or a staff member handling closing a thread.

Thread doesn't go against any rules (everything I mentioned above is really just community expectations, staff rarely enforces forum expectations outside of advertisments and explicit spam and the like), it just has some misleading elements and is potentially unnecessary given the other thread.

Then again, that thread doesn't mention the Epic version nor link to the developer's statement.. so, even with its misleading elements, your thread seems a far more helpful one. As-is, if you tweak a few elements and change the associated forum category, it'd probably be more suitable for the other thread to be closed.
