Hmm... I will give it a try.

Most of "visual novels" are kinda bad. You know when you play most of them you have this odd feeling that the story was written by

  • kid
  • lass charmed by Harlequin stories
  • weird japanophile who never even visited Japan.

But like I said, I will give it a try. They've earned my vote on greenlight… btw. thank you for news

Ok that's kinda off putting for me. I watched video but I had to mute it somewhere in the middle because of annoying Japanese music. But don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Japanese music… but the thing is I like GOOD music not some forced crap made just to sound like japanese.

If they are really from California they should act as Americans. No matter how otakuish, moeish, kawaiish they are… they were born and raised in different culture. They will NOT be Japanese no matter what they do. It is kinda annoying and offending for Japanese…

But still, I will give it a try… if this will be some wannabe-japanese -usa crap… I will just take my vote back. Simple as that.

I don't quite get why you're ranting about people who imitate a style. So what if they're not Japanese? Does it mean that they can't make a VN in a Japanese style? You're already judging how good this VN is going to be just because its developers are from the US and not Japan.

Also, going back to the first post: don't take offense at this, but maybe VN's just aren't your type of game. They certainly aren't for everyone, and there's nothing wrong with that.

My dear Alcohol,

I do like VN... that's why I came here (this thread) in the first place. Logical isn't it?

I am merely remarking that most of "Wapanese" games are bad. I don't like that half assed attitude "OMG I LOVE ANIME I MUST BECOME JAPANESE". Most of guys like that don't even understand Japanese culture. They have this weird distorted opinion on Japan that is far from being realistic. And it is kinda annoying for me.

But I'm not saying all games like that are bad, ya? I really liked for example dysfunctional system… but the game wasn't screaming to me "I want to be Japanese". It was normal game (ok… probably calling it DEMO would be better idea) that was based on "Japanese style gaming" but the whole content and story was feeling rather "westernized".

EDIT: And I DID say that I will try this game first, than decide, no? 3x times

EDIT 2: Ow it seems I made mistake, you are not alcohol... ow...

Ethyl methyl ether is, in fact, an ether. If it was an alcohol (or even had an alcohol subgroup), at least one of its words would have had the suffix "-ol" after it. Here, have some reading about ethers and alcohols.

You say that you like VN's, but you said most are bad in the first post. I don't know how you actually feel about them because this information conflicts. Maybe you meant to say that you like the VN's that "aren't bad"? I'm not sure.

You also say that not all of these so-called "Wapanese" games are bad. Then you cite Dysfunctional System as an example, which (according to you, I haven't played it) is more Westernized and therefore better because it isn't Japanese. And unless you're Japanese yourself (which I doubt, considering some of your previous posts), the creators of the VN's probably have a better idea of Japanese culture than yourself.

Anyways, I'm not going to waste my time trying to help you become more open-minded. If you have a stigma against VN's that imitate a certain style, an internet post isn't going to change that.

Edit: Just saw your edit about not being an alcohol.

Edit 2: I'll just add here that I haven't looked at Sunrider yet. I'm just a little put off by your generalizations towards a whole genre.

Chill out lad, no?

Yeah I kinda realized that I made mistake earlier. I saw what I wanted to see, and what I want is Methanol and Ethanol. But yes it was foolish of me.

Yes most of them are bad... and I mean only "story" issue.

Conflict? Where? Why? Wha? I really love music… even if most of it is pop/disco crap (I mean like Beaver and crap like that). Do you see here any conflict?

But Dysfunctional System isn't even close to being Wapanese game. It's not mindless copying of elements of culture which they don't know. That's the point!

And I never said anything about Western games being better than Japanese, that's your guess-work. Oh and again… me knowing about Japanese culture less than average VN game maker is also your guess-work. You don't know me, so get off me, ok lad?

"Imitate" oh it is good word. Pro tip for you: Imitation will never be as good as original…

EDIT: Well right, let's check it first than comment it later. We agree on that :)

EDIT 2: Well imitation was better only in Fate/stay-night which started as VN if I remember right.... and I liked the game.

Imo they feel like they're written by a Japanese person. Japanese humor and communication just seems so weird to me, it's very hard to relate because it seems a bit childish and strange. Same thing with anime and manga.

Fact #1 - the CG artist is a half-Japanese lady named Ashton, LOL. Fact #2 - the game has a disgusting, cheap symphonic score, designed to pull the strings of the denizens of the lower branches of the evolutionary tree. I'd really like for people to support translation of actual VN's, rather than such sub-subpar, weeaboo rip-offs, so bad they have to be given out for free.

I don't really expect freeware games to have the best music.

If the music in the preview videos make up the soundtrack in the game - I don't think it sounds terrrible.

You mean her?

OK I'm kidding.... but I heard somewhere of Ashton... but I don't remember when and where...

Also yes bad music is ruining game. I hate half-assed attitued.

  • You want to make music DO IT RIGHT,
  • You can't make good music LEAVE IT ALONE and let player choose his/her music.

You know you can play the game muted, right? It's not like you have to listen to the music if you don't like it. Usually VNs give you an option to disable the music, sound effects, character voices separately.

But seriously, guys, why not get a real deal like Higurashi through Greenlight, before you turn in your desperation to FREEWARE OELVN's? Just think about it.

Hugurashi has been greenlit already. Just wait for release on Steam.

OK, then, carry on. Still those thousands of kickstarter dollars could be used to fund translation of many other classic and/or renowned JAPANESE novels. Just saiyan.

All we are waiting for in the case of Higurashi is the release of it on Steam. It has long time been greenlit.

I would love to play/read another good digital novel. The 39 Steps was thrilling, though mostly thanks to the hundred-year-old novel it was based on. Anything that survives that long can't be terrible.

There doesn't seem to be anything special about this one. I'll pass. But there's no harm in voting.
