Are you satisfied with this first humble monthly bundle?
Even when the games aren't garbage but most of the games are owned ... or the effective discount isn't as much as the buyer wanted. Lots of potential for abuse.

This is the risk you take... If you're not happy to potentially loose $12, you shouldn't sign up.
I've wanted Mushroom 11 for a while now, and it's $11 here, even in the Steam sale. So I'm pretty happy with the Jan bundle,

Well that includes the early copy of Grimrock 2, so I doubt this applies to many people.

indeed, wait for hints, if they predict to be "meh" i'll end my HBM

I hate this month as well. First two were good for me, except payday2.

Talos is one of the best puzzle games I agree, but that game was as cheap as 2,49€ for ROW version and cheaper in other region locked regions, also Grim Fandango was tons of times very cheap $3 or less, they can be as good as you wish so it doesn't matter how good the game is, but it doesn't mean I should overpay for them, so for $12 is not worth at all to me, also I already had Talos,

please correct me if i'm wrong...
they offer a monthly subscription,
which you pay in advance,
and later the games are revealed,
people didn't like the games in the package and complained,
so now they let users refund.
wouldn't be easier to remove their preorder system and just make the pack public with a price on each month?
Comment has been collapsed.
sorry replied to the wrong comment:
No the point of it is to be only for those with a subscription. I dont mind how they do it but if people are not willing to live with a blind bundle that can be good or bad then they shouldn't buy it or expect anything.
Go in with the lest expectations and know that there will be repeats of games you already own, Give them to a friend, make a giveaway if you dont want them. Win Win to me.
But to me they shouldnt allow refunds. You knew going in that its a blind bundle so they are being kind to do it. I would just use it as a next time dont do a monthly subscription and just wait for the cheap bundles.

i found it confusing that some people see preorders as the devil, yet they paid for this, which is worse because you don't even see what products you are buying.
don't get me wrong, it's their money. but it doesn't make sense to pay blindly and then complain every month.
i suppose valve will implement something like this in the future: pay $59.99 per month and get a surprise AAA preorder next year!
Comment has been collapsed.
I've noticed most of the complaining comes from people who already have 2000+ games on Steam, so there's nothing "new" for them in the bundles. It makes even less sense to expect fresh new games for a collection when they own that many already. I haven't bothered with these bundles yet because I know I'm going to own a good number of the games before I even know what they are (I may get next month's just for some giveaways, though).
These bundles clearly aren't meant for people who buy games early on -- they're meant for newer Steam accounts who are looking for great games (and every game so far has been great or at least pretty damned good) at a good price.
Either allow refunds and show the bundle, or keep it a gamble and no refunds. It's $12, not the end of the world.

This isn't the same as pre-ordering a game. With pre-ordering, you're buying something that isn't even out yet based on hype and advertising, with no actual reviews or previews. It's essentially early access, just without the access part. Pre-ordering made sense when games were sold on physical disks because they could sell out at release, but it makes no sense for digital products.
What you're getting from something like Humble Monthly (or other bundle pre-orders) are games that are already finished and have been out a while. I suppose it has the same appeal as those blind box deals. From what I've seen, the HB monthly games have mostly been decent, especially compared to some of the other junk bundles out there that let you pre-purchase before release for a discount.
Comment has been collapsed.
When you pre-order, you still don't really know what you're getting since the game could be a buggy mess or just suck. Why not wait for some reviews before handing over your money? It's not like early access or Kickstarter, a pre-order doesn't fund the game, it's already been funded by the published.
I'm not trying to sell you a HB monthly subscription, I'm just explaining why I don't understand why someone would pre-order a game. Would you pre-order a car without test driving it first just because it looks cool? I sure as hell wouldn't, and it's not like the price is going to increase after release. I can understand the appeal of the Humble Monthly. Like I already said, it's a bit like those blind box things. I've never done that myself, but I can understand the appeal.

The Talos Principle 9.99 (worth about 5.00)
Grim Fandango Remastered 2.99 (worth about 1.00)
Spelunky 3.74 (low2.99) (worth 1.50)
Mushroom 11 9.99 (worth about 0.15)
A Fistful of Gun 6.49 (standard sale 3.25) (worth 0.10)
The Masterplan 4.99 (worth 0.15)
38.19 on steam now, not 118.00, but seriously only about 7.90 worth of content and that is being generous with the grim fandango update for nostalgia reasons
Comment has been collapsed.
you can find games just like those for free on any flash game site. 40 cents is a good estimate of their bundle fodder worth
i calculate worth as being what I would be willing to pay for it
Comment has been collapsed.
you probably can if you are patient, they may even get cheaper than that eventually.
Comment has been collapsed.
That is almost accurate. I actually bought Fallout 4 for $5.57 in a pricing error* Ubisoft had at their shop about two weeks ago.
*That was very fast, and I think only for BR storefront.
Comment has been collapsed.
So it is not worth at all,but merely what your willing to pay lol

More like you being cheap and not giving it a fair value and that is me being generous...what your willing to pay is not what something is worth that just what you think it is.
The value of the games in question are what they can be had at the lowest price.Granted the bundle may not be a screaming deal but still better then most bundles. Also if you look at split cost then the price becomes even better.
you probably can if you are patient, they may even get cheaper than that eventually.
That applies to most things,if you wait 5 years the car you bought today will be a lot cheaper,so because they may become cheaper you value them as pretty much worthless lol

I was thinking about getting refund. But your posts makes me reconsider.

That way they won't be able to capture the lazy crowd, where if people don't get what they want, they just say Meh... next month, or people with deep pockets who doesn't even care.
Comment has been collapsed.
Indeed this makes sense. I see no reason for gambling when you can refund. Just remove the gamble feature alltogether I say!
Comment has been collapsed.
Well I probably won't ask for a refund but this one is 100% pure crap to me. Grim Fandango is almost a keeper, but that's about as close as it gets... then the "headliner" is on the SG bundle list... it won't even move my bar. Pretty down way to start the year.

I unsubscribe last month so annoyed to find I have yet another shittie monthly hb :( knew this shit was a giant trap

Talos was available for most people for $5 ROW.
It is not worth $12. Even if you didnt have the coupon it was $10. Not $12.
And people who wanted the game most likely just purchased it, and now they will have to gift this new talos away or try and trade it. Either way they paid for a copy of a game, they will not end up playing.
Comment has been collapsed.
I actually would have loved the January Bundle, but I didn't try for it. Talos was well worth the $2 ($12/6=$2)! Grim would have been nice too but it is $2.99 right now anyway. The ones I didn't want I could have always tried to trade/sell or randomly dropped around the forums. Heck, had I not been so slow in the Group Buys group I would have snapped up one of the copies that were spread around their forums.
Comment has been collapsed.
If your talking about the same Group Buys as I think you are, then it might be against the rules to buy more then 1 copy. There was a discussion about this cause some people would buy every copy they could before anyone else had a chance and that went against the spirit of the group.
Comment has been collapsed.
It was just bad wording on my part. Been a long day. I've attempted to fix it. Been up now for 38 hours. The Spread around the forums part was actually referring to the games in the Bundle I didn't want had I bought it. Not buying a ton of copies of Talos to randomly drop!

To be fair, I don't think the problem was the bundle so much as the Christmas sale. However, this is likely to be an ongoing problem with the monthly. It's likely that developers who are ready to offer a game in the monthly bundle will also be ready to promote their games in the big sales around the same time, which is always going to lead to conflicts. This would have been a perfectly fine bundle for me, if I had not bought Talos and Masterplan during the Steam sale; with those two already and recently owned, the deal gets a little slim.
Comment has been collapsed.
don't see why refunds would be given, this is one of those things that is.. you buy it and take the gamble of buying stuff you already own. It's like buying a scratch off.. you could win nothing, you could get back a little, you could break even, you could come out ahead.. or you could strike it rich..
Aren't the monthly's giving up nearly all the money to charity anyway.. Not like you can't easily trade away the games and get back most of your money..
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't understand what people expected from these bundles. Just Cause 3, Witcher 3, Mad Max and the latest CoD for $12? Geez. I expected the complaining to start for something logical like recurring games, not "wah I didn't get the red squirrel in the mystery toy box, GIF ME THE RED SQUIRREL!".
Comment has been collapsed.
People excpect same quality as the December bundle, and they didn't get it.
Comment has been collapsed.
well if you look at it in a less of the 'value/popularity of the games' way you will find it good, the bundles aren't as bad as people make them look.
Comment has been collapsed.
So they added this because people where complaining about no refund for buying something blindly and they did not like it.I say tough shit if your willing to buy something without knowing what inside and it is shit, then you better make a shit sandwhich and eat it.
I am thinking this monthly bundle thing is not going so well for them,as this is a stupid move and will be abused like shit.If you ask me this kinda defeats the point of the bundles now, also people need to quit being cheap and expecting a million bucks worth of shit for little effort.
Comment has been collapsed.
Lowest these games has been was 38,11 euros (without considering payday2) .... it's probable that fistful of guns and mushrooms is gonna drop lower so overall this was a bad bundle.... the only games that get the price of this bundle high are mushroom and fistful of guns... and fistful of guns is multiplayer only AFAIK and mushrooms will probably get discounted FOR A LOT MORE ON STEAM.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, ill try this function in Feb bundle, if it will suck. But anyway we all should remember about charity when buying something on humblebundle. We make profit if we look at price of games sold saperately + giving some % for good deeds. And we on steamgifts anyway! Don
t need it - giveaway;)
Comment has been collapsed.
they probably don't give the money to charity right away. even if they do, it's 5% of $12. i don't think 60 cents per people asking refund would hurt humble bundle. ._.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, it's idiotic no to consider that. The best point made, period.
Comment has been collapsed.
I enjoyed this bundle, people are looking at it all wrong, back in the day we bought games to play and enjoy. We didn't buy things and get annoyed at the assumption that they would come down in price or they were on a bundle list.
If the games good and you own it, give it a friend as a gift, share the love. If the game is unusual give it a try, you might like it. It's hardly like we are getting Bad Rats in the bundle.
A more objective way of looking at things is the average steam review ratings, it's not like you are getting ripped off by getting games of the quality of Spelunky and Grim Fandango.
Comment has been collapsed.
But, back in the day such bundles did not exist.. and discounts/price drops were not frequent either (or so I am assuming)! xP
I am guessing people are sad/mad because they don't like the games... There's a difference between buying a game for a friend and giving something you don't like to a friend. I haven't subscribed for it, but the only game that interests me from the January Monthly is Spelunky, I would have been really disappointed considering how I can get it for roughly $2 on steam right now. Of course, I don't really want the game, not right now at least!
I am not saying they are ripping off but I think it's a bad idea to subscribe unless you like most (if not all) types of games!
(I am not sure this is exactly what I wanted to say.. I forgot... sort of)
Comment has been collapsed.
That's the whole idea of the Humble Bundle Monthly - that it's a gamble. Refunds completely remove that blind gambling aspect - the possibility of getting 6 goo/decent games for $12. It's something new they're trying, and something they don't have to be doing at all (nor are they obligated to) -- they could just go back to selling those same games in their store for much less discounted prices.
It's pretty clear that anyone with a decent collection of games should not be purchasing this bundle expecting games they want anyway. Chances are you're going to get a few games you already have or don't want. People like that should just be buying the games they want rather than gambling on a blind bundle. These bundles are clearly meant as an offering for people with relatively few games who want to get some good games at a very reasonable price.
Comment has been collapsed.
This may be a silly question, but... would Alien Isolation be considered to be part of the February bundle? Like, would it be possible to subscribe, use the Alien Isolation key and then request a refund, if you haven't revealed the other keys?
