Had this conversation with some friends a while ago, and curious what you guys think.

When is a pre-order bonus good enough for you that it makes you want to buy the game before release, OR when is it fair for you that you don't angry if you don't want to purchase?

A. Content removed from the core game and offered as bonus. Eg: Dying Light.

B. Artwork, soundtrack, wallpaper etc.

C. Something else

Maybe 75% off or more I might consider it, otherwise I agree with chronic. I am tired of getting burned by shitty devs who release halfassed products that are buggy or missing features.

I made exceptions for D:OS and DG2, and both were pretty buggy and missing stuff, so shame on me.

Better to just wait for complete versions to hit <10 bucks or a bundle.b

The only game I ever preordered and ever will is Persona Q, because

a) it's a Persona game and it's my favorite franchise
b) Atlus generally doesn't disappoint
c) it comes with some cards from the game as a preorder bonus

I would not preorder anything else except maybe Persona 5, for the same reasons a and b. Anything else is probably not worth it.

I pre-ordered only Resident Evil 6....umm yea. XD

But don't you guys get annoyed when the developers cut contents out that should be included in the base game?
The question is the borderline of DLC/pre-order issue.

I only pre-order games I KNOW I will enjoy. I like playing games as soon as it comes out because the world discovers the game together. The bonuses are just that. A bonus.

Only steam bonus. Retailer offered mousepad and shirt X'D.
Come to think of it, it was pretty dumb now, but game was pretty hyped before release :/

A healthy discount, to mitigate any risk of the game being a pile of horse eggs...

I totally agree with this.

I absolutely /never/ preorder for cut content. Ever. Developers who do that are pieces of shit and are the reason I end up buying used or heavily discounted games.

As for preorder - I generally preorder for physical artbooks and cds. But I go nuts for things like the 'Tales of' collectors editions. Those usually come with figurines, cds, artbooks, an actual book expanding on the series, and other nicknacks. And Limited Editions of jrpgs because you can get some of the craziest stuff. I bought the collectors edition of Records of Agarest War just for the boob mouse pad.

TLDR; basically I'm a sucker. If you put interesting shit for your preorders, I will buy it. Like animu booby mousepads.

Pre-orders are fine as long as you trust the developers. I just pre-ordered Isaac Rebirth, and I may pre-order Hotline Miami 2 when it starts to sell on Steam. The 33% discount was a fantastic deal for Rebirth, but honestly I would have pre-ordered it if I didn't get a single extra thing.

i would too - only limiting factor is money, was struggling to even amass the required money for the discounted price until the local currencies came along!

Not worth it :( Game Developers kinda lost their credibility with disappointments like Homefront (which was OK but not worth the initial release price) and Aliens Colonial Marines etc... They expect people to spend $$$$$$ beforehand on a promise of a good game but they don't always deliver. Even great games won't please everyone, but several recent pre-order games are barely playable. Developers are making less and less effort to remedy major flaws and patch up mistakes. If we're lucky, they will charge us for a new and improved version, which should have been what we got in the first place. So I tend not to pre-order and I try to wait until the game is positively reviewed and I can buy the complete edition with all or most of the dlc.

After having played the beta, a nice 15% discount & earlier access to the servers were enough to convince me to pre-order Guild Wars.

If I feel that the devs have cut content in order to make pre-order bonuses and/or launch DLC, I'll just not get the game at all, unless I get everything in a nice big & cheap collection.

I think pre oreder Witcher 3 is more then fine, we all know that CD projekt RED are one of the best developers and will give all content for free( like it was with 1st and second witcher).

is never worth. it's barely acceptable if you can start playing the game earlier. But if i have no hurry to play i usually wait untill the price drops 66-75%

I'll only pre-purchase games I really want, even if I play them later. But if a game I'm interested in puts TF2 items or special pre-orders items, I may be more inclined to purchase... if the TF2 items is at my taste too ^^. Anyway, I rarely pre-order.
