I just want to ask all of you guys to please not enter the giveaways of games you're not interested in so the people that actually like them to have a chance of winning them...
I saw many people that have tons of games on their accounts which they don't even play...so please be nice guys and take in consideration what I just asked.

points are free, that´s why people enter giveaways in which they aren´t really interested.

Yeah... Sometime sI wonder if peeps just join giveaways to get a random game.
Do ~2K people really want AudioSurf & An Indie Gala bundle? Do 800 people really want Fortix?

If you could check my entries, Youll see 80-90% of it is for The Ship.
A few DLCs for Sanctum here & There, and from time to time a another good game (Bioshock AC:R)

But its mostly The Ship coz its probz the only game I find interesting. Havent won anything though ._.
I have >200 points most of the time, Doesnt mean I should just use them on whatever...
Just look at this: http://i.imgur.com/JkssK.png

Actually, yes. I would like Fortix. I played Fortix 2 and now I want to finish Fortix too :) Do not underestimate the power of Fortix !

P.S.: Leave Fortix alone !

Audiosurf was the reason I first installed Steam actually. I'm a huge music fan of all genre's, saw an ad for the game, and that got my Steam addiction started. And I still play it regularly after all this time. One of my great fallback games.

Well, I don't think people enter giveaways they're not interested in.

Believe me, they do. Most probably just to have the account worth more money -.-

After much research (read: asking twice just why people liked Steam so much and receiving five replies), I've come to the conclusion that most people - myself included - like to collect games. I'd actually prefer to own physical copies^ but Steam and Desura work as well. When someone asks me "hey, you played that game? Can you tell me a little about it?" I'm proud to be able to answer any question they might have. Yes, I'm one of the few who plays the games I buy if only for two hours.

Most of us collectors operate under the assumption that one day or another we'll be able to play and finish all those games. But, well, work never ends, does it?

^And in fact I am collecting PAL PS2 games (this time to play them for real). If anyone here has some, contact me ^^

Reasons I like Steam:

  • Having all games in one place. I can start up the program and have all the games that I need at my disposal - and on any computer that I log onto.
  • Accessibility: Also, in case I want to format my HDD or get a new computer, fiddling around with 100 CDs/DVDs is no longer an issue.
  • Transparency: I can see exactly what games I currently have, which makes picking a game all that much easier. In addition, I can also easily see what games I don't yet have.
  • Steam Deals: Games are just so damn cheap at times.
  • Achievements: I'm a whore for achievements, I cannot deny this.

Everyone understands that it gets frustrating when your chances are low at winning, but like you everyone has there right to enter any giveaway they please as long they got the points to enter them (and meet any special requirements that might be asked). Many might have games they haven't play, but it doesn't mean they wont get to them. In fact some people had played their games before steam started using the tracking system.

^ I agree. Have lots of games which I hadn't time for yet, but I'll play most of them sooner or later (except the bunch of shooters I have, cause I don't like them). There are very few games in my library which I'll never play and I only have them because of complete packs/ bundles (was a bad idea to redeem the valve complete pack I got during winter promotion just because of portal 1 & 2 >.<). Have lots of games filtered here at Steamgifts because they don't seem interesting to me.

Or they play them offline where as steam does not record the time played

People enter just to win, rarely they want the games they enter for.

When people really want some game, they go and buy it, no?

This site is mainly for trying your luck at winning games you don't want enough to buy, eh.

Some people can't afford to buy every new game that strikes their fancy.

I only enter giveaways for games I see myself playing. That being said, I won't enter any giveaways for Skyrim.

The only giveaways I enter when I don't really want to play the game are HL2 giveaways. I usually only enter on the "Half life 2" ones because I haven't played it yet and if I won episode 1 or 2 I wouldn't play them until I completed the first one... But sometimes I enter in all 3 because the chance of winning is so low... might as well.

I don't enter giveaways for new games and that stuff because my PC sucks so most likely they would run at very low fps and I wouldn't finish them.

Tho lately with all the Dota 2 giveaways I always have 300 points so I end up entering in giveaways I wouldn't have tried before.

Personally, I try to only enter things I either want, or think, 'that looks interesting'.

I started only entering for games I truly want quite some time ago.

I mean what's the point of getting a game that you're never going to enjoy? Especially when someone else out there might really enjoy having it. I have quite a few games in my Steam library in a group called 'Never Again', most of which if given the ability to do so I would give away or just delete entirely off my library. I don't see the point in simply adding to that list, it would only further clutter my already cluttered library...

Exactly what I do, altho I also go for games that I don't know much about, but look quite fun. Never have I entered a giveaway just to throw away points. Is that why I always have 300P?

This is bound to happen unfortunetly, there will be always someone who will enter every single giveaway simply because they have the points.

Personally i usually only enter group giveaways, and from those only the ones i'm interested, so i'm pretty much all the time around the 300P mark...

I try to stay below 250 points, so I tend to enter what I normally wouldn't (my entries are mostly based on my chances combined with the games I might like).
Sadly, I doubt I'll ever get the time to catch up with the games I get in different ways by actually playing them, as school is like a 95%-of-my-time investment now, and the other 5% is doing as little as possible or feeding.
I'm one of those people who collect to play "someday" XD

I only enter games that look interesting and I know I would play. I'll be sure to play a demo of a game before entering for it (exceptions if I played another game in the series). Plenty of times I have choose not to enter a giveaway despite being interested in the game I determined that I'd rather someone who'd enjoy it more win.
This leads to me often being at 300P.

the only giveaway i entered that was for a game i couldn't really see myself playing was the huge fairie solitaire one (though now that i have it i'll probably try it out) when i have lots of points (like now) and there aren't that many giveaways for games i really want, i lower my standards a bit and go for ones i'm sort of interested in.
