I'm not complaining. I just became curious. I recently discovered that I hadn't won anything in over 5 months. I usually had 15+ wins a year. This time 4. Probably the last months of this year will be fun haha. I know about the "Unlucky7", but I didn’t think that this could happen to oldies, lol. Anyway, I'm happy to be part of SG.

Update 1: Thank you for your attention, votes and comments!
Update 2: Lol, I just won a game!

"Overall, you've been lucky, and won 11 more gifts than estimated since you first joined." well ... the roughest time was when i entered steamgifts ... someone even gifted me world of goo because i had commented on so many giveaways at that time ... well the longest delay was 1 1/2 months without winning anything

Sounds pitty. How about to try participate in some groups? I can't see any won group-gibs at ur profile. SG have about 1/3 gibs for group members.

...I can only estimate, but I roughly win one game (inc. DLC) a month in the (about) 3 years that I've been active, so I'm thinking it's probably 2 months at most.

I find this rate fine.

May be. Winning games make me feel better. But about 4 years here make me think less about it. I hope. Support makes me feel same a little bit and makes me feel I can partially influence the face of the World.

Around 9 months.

This was when I finally realized there is no point in joining giveaways I'll never win, and only started entering giveaways on my wishlist, or that were good enough for me to want to play them.
The no-win streak ended when I because so frustrated by the inability to win any game I'd actually want to play (even in groups I was member of), I started my own group.

I like that attitude, if you don't like something - fix it!

And thank you again for starting the group. I just looked through my wins, and about 20% of them have come from QGG. :)

Looks like my longest gap has been seven months long. It was broken by a winning streak. As I have basically stopped entering giveaways, however, I cannot predict how long it will be before my next win.

Honestly, IDK, I'll let you know when (IF) that happens :P
Granted, I don't enter to anything but selected few I do like and actually want to play, so this further dilutes the very thin string line that contain the ever lowering odds.
No, I'm not on any meds, could that be the problem? /j

Well, it's proportional to how many giveaways you enter. You're averaging 1 win per 175 entries, so you'd need to enter around 175 more giveaways to expect to win another game. That's actually a lot better than the average win rate for public giveaways.

I went 5 years before my first win, but that was also before I became really active, starting giving away games, discovered great groups like Unlucky 7, etc. After I became active and started giving away games, the longest I've gone was ~5 months.

It's sometimes sporadic. I've had times where I only won 1 game across 9 months, and then suddenly won two in one month.

It also depends a lot on how many giveaways you enter. For example, 15 wins a year seems like a lot to me - I'm averaging just under 8 wins a year over the past 2.5 years, and consider myself very fortunate. But I'm also only entering ~6% as many giveaways as you are, so with that in mind I'm considerably luckier.

In the end, it doesn't really matter. I mean, I'd love to win more games - who wouldn't? - but I'm already struggling to keep up with and play all the games I've already won, so I've already been very fortunate and don't really need to win any more games for some time. Now free time... that I could use. FreeTimeGifts, anyone?

5 years is a long time (for people under 30, lol). You must be very patient! It's really great.

I think it taught me that you get out of SG what you put into it. Once I started giving away games myself and being active, I then started winning giveaways too. It seemed like forever before I won my first giveaway, but then that was followed by a second not too long after, and I don't think I've gone more than 5 months without winning something since - which is really pretty impressive, considering how rare it is to actually win something for free online.

How is it happened that you remembered about the site so much time later? I can't remember lot of things older half of year or few years!

What do you think about patreon instead of some gibs?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I never left SG (except for short periods, a few weeks max). I regularly read the forum, and occasionally reply (around 20 comments a month on a normal month, according to the stats). I stopped entering because I felt that it was pointless. I can buy the games I want and I came to SG to gift, not to win. I stopped gifting because I'm not much of a gamer these days, so don't buy much, and although I have quite a few old keys to gift, I don't feel like dealing with the case that they might not work.

As for Patreon, I do support a few content creators on Patreon, but SG isn't a content creation site, and I don't see a particular reason to support it monetarily.

205 whitelists is cool. I think u did something special and great to get so much whitelists. Is it cause giving away AAA games or giving away AA/BB games or something other? It's interesting to know reasons why people like somebody

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

whitelisting other helps to get you whitelisted, but they dont know you whitelisted them unless you make a whitelisted GA
Whitelists(205)and Blacklists(251) what ever you do, gonna piss some people off and make some happy. i only buy games to giveaway that i would play, sometimes its spare keys i didn't want from a bundle i wanted some of the games from., but it its a really good bundle i will buy like 5 or 6 of them.
to increase odds of winning bookmark and use this https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?level_min=4&level_max=5
then just change it when you level up. only found out about it this year

I have several theories.

The RNG of the site does not like me.
The admin of SteamGifts made sure I can never come up as a winner.
That gipsy curse I got a few years back is taking effect.
The stars are not aligning.
Or maybe because I stopped entering giveaways two years ago.

11 months, give or take a day. Could've been longer, but I won something last month to break the streak.
Not really surprising, I've become a lot more selective in which GA's I enter these days, because my backlog in games is already completely out of control anyway.
And I've been kind of less interested in video games the past year or so too.

I only win when the odds are super favorable.
The 4 times I won:
4 copies for 40 entries - 1/10 not a bad chance to win
25000 copies for 19000 entries - 1/1 lol
1500 copies for 23000 entries 1/15
1000 copies for 9000 entries 1/9

I entered 3,520 times, Im not the luckiest one really xD Thats why I almost dont bother
