I've been seeing a lot of people lately being complete asses, "Oh so and so registered an hour ago...this giveaway MUST be fake. " I mean really? Why do you even need to say that? First of all, it's not like you have any proof to base your speculations on. And second, IT DOESN'T COST YOU A SINGLE CENT TO ENTER GIVEAWAYS! If it's fake then it's fake and in the end you get your points back. End of story. Stop being total douches to people who register on this site to gift games.

Edit: and yes I am a hypocritical ass who has also done this.

When I joined this site, the first order of business was to give away a game, and I did so without hesitation.
I didn't get one person saying "Fake!" perhaps they checked my inventory previously, or were just really trustworthy.

Regardless, people really shouldn't be so frugal with their free points.

Yup. I realized he sent the gift. I guess I suspected wrong.

And if you check out what I said a bit down on this thread, no game in inven but game in library and hardly played is a good enough reason to suspect that the user doesn't know how gifting works I daresay.

The same can be argued with people who post fake, the lack of evidence leads them to believe the giveaway is fake, and in their duty and good manner, they choose to inform other fellow members that this giveaway is not worthy of their points and their points would be better off spent else where.

Either way, you're criticizing others for the same that you have done.

Not really no. Date of registration on this site is not a logical reason as to why the giveaway is fake. What I said on that giveaway was very different to when people say, "So and so registered 5 minutes ago. Fake giveaway".

Sure, but you still yelled "fake" like everybody else. The lesson here is to exercise the principle of charity and/or politely remind the gifter that they have to have an unredeemed copy of the gave available to gift to the winner. Much like sbartok45 did.

Easey pleasey lemon squeezey.

It's more the "Registered 5 minutes ago. Entered 6 giveaways. Made a 50-copy Skyrim giveaway, and has Skyrim on Steam Wishlist" people :p

If they simply incorporated not being able to create giveaways of Wishlist items, it'd reduce these fake giveaways significantly :)

Even if I spot an invalid giveaway, I just report it. No point wasting my time harassing the person responsible to inflate my e-peen. If you post anything other than a brief informative message about whatever rules they might be breaking, or what they seem to misunderstand about the site, you're pretty much trolling or witch-hunting. There's really no need for it. Just report it and the mods will deal with it. /thread

No no, you misunderstand. This isn't about inflating an imaginary phallus on the internet. It's about increasing your own chances to win by being a dick and scaring other people away from legitimate giveaways.

One of these days, I'm going to make a new steam account just for the purpose of making a 10-copy skyrim giveaway right after I make the account on Steamgifts. Everyone will think it's fake, so they won't enter it, and I'll just sit there with 10 copies. :|

I don't say "FAKE" when I suspect something. However if I notice somethings that see off such as a new user, a giveaway for a game that is relatively expensive and has not been on sale recently, and if it is not in their inventory (or if it is in their wishlist), I may post something about how there is a chance that it may not be a real giveaway with the evidence (I only did this once or twice though)

Yes I've done this too. Such as people who have the game in library and not in their inventory and also, they have hardly played the game. This would lead me to suspect that there is a possibility the user doesn't know how gifting works. My point is, people who say "FAKE" and base it off the fact that the user only recently joined Steam Gifts are dirt bags.

giveaways need to be ENFORCED meaning the person that is doing the give needs to show proof they have the game in there steam library or screen shot a picture of where they are buying the game at with the time and date on it. there is too many fake ones going out

I think its the most hilarious when people scream "FAKE", but just in case they're wrong, enter it anyway.

Anyone ever witness one of those jackasses winning, in a screw-you sort of ironic fashion?

Its a little annoying seeing people claim fake all the time and its funnier when you see them still entering them. I say if you think its a fake don't be dramatic just avoid it and not enter, and then be on your way to the next giveaway.

Saged, reported, hidden & called the cops.

Seriously, 99% of giveaways mentioned in OP posts are fake, or made by people misinterpreting this site. If I see a potential fake giveaway, I just report it, no bitching. I may leave a comment in cases I am absolutely sure, just to warn other people, but who reads comments and descriptions anyway, majority of people just click "Enter giveaway" button and piss on everything else.

I think you are taking things out of context here...... MOST people will check things about the person - whether he has been VAC banned? Does he have it in his inventory? His is profile private? How many games does he have? Is it on his wishlist?

These clues can tell us whether its fake or not - and if you have ever won a give away with 2000 entries, and it turns out to be fake THEN you WOULD'NT be bitching about this right here.

But I'm not talking about those people. Like I said before, I've suspected fake giveaways before after I check their inventory and library and I see that the user has the gift in the library and has hardly even played the game. This would lead me to think that the giveaway may be fake. Right now I'm talking about people who shout out that it's fake because of the fact that the user only recently registered. That is in no way a logical reason to suspect a giveaway of being fake.

You know people usually check if the user has the game in his inventory or not... if not then the giveaway is most likely fake
