What best describes your situation?
I think a game design career is really hard to achieve, but if that's your dream job, it also will be the thing you are going to perform the best in your life.
The things we like most are the ones we are more willing to do, that's why we get good at them.
Don't think about what everyone else wants. It's your life and you should do what you like, otherwise you are going to regret it someday...
Also, bump, and thank you for the sweet sweet gib. :)
Probably my english is completely incorrect, but I hope to convey the right idea. :)

I am a graduating student of Medicine, will actually take my final Biochemistry exam in approx 6 hours as a matter of fact. Please wish me luck :D.
Anyway I do want to share that in Medicine, especially here in the Philippines and other SEA countries, there are a lot of students that don't want to be doctors. They have different career dreams but their families or financers (one who supports their studies/living/etc) want them to. Here in our country, you can't really ignore and not follow what the elders want you to be because it is just our culture. So Iv'e got a number of people in my batch that don't want to be doctors.
However, as time goes by they started to love the art and science of patching people up :D. We are currently in our last year, and I've talked to some of them and they started to like how people call them "Doc this" and "Doc that". Or how people see us as somewhat trustworthy and kind. Like whenever we do patient rounds at the ward or ER, we kind of get that "thanks to you, I'm back to near normal" face everytime. So its really a change of heart from not liking the profession to actually striving to be one.
I guess this is like an opposite of your story, but kind of the same in essence. Strive for happiness. :D

Here is so common to work and study at the same time. In my case, I am doing both things.
Thanks for the GA :)

I've learnt that every step you take will take you closer to your true goal, even if it seems like a detour, whatever you learn on your way will be a puzzle piece that has shaped your life once you reach a point where you look back.
What you wrote sounds like you have a clear vision of what you want and how to get it. All you need to do is wait for the right moment and gather enough courage to jump off the cliff (metaphorically spoken) when that moment arrives.
I'm wishing you the best of luck!

Welp, at least you know what you want and that's great. I wish you all the good luck and that you have fun while doing what you like. If your keep your head up and smile for the choice you made, it'll make everything worthwhile and feel good~

Big ups for having the courage to go after your passion - so many people are stuck in a job they don't like
Yes, money is important, but living to work is no way to spend your time on earth :o
Switching careers in one's lifetime is no longer a rare thing anymore - plus it doesn't mean you start all the way from the beginning - there are always skills and knowledge that transfer.

Hey everyone! There's no real point to this thread, it's mostly for me to vent. So if you're here just for the GA, skip on down to the bottom :) No judgement.
I'm currently working as a Business Developer in a very small project/program management consulting firm. That basically means my company makes sure other companies do the work they need to in the right amount of time and without spending too much money, and my job is to sell our services to other companies. The pay is good and the work is decent, but it's not what I want to do.
I really want to get into Game Design. It's been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember and has always been greatly rewarding for me. I have worked on a few small games (mostly in college) and have taken away more and more from each experience, but I never considered it as a career for several reasons; the biggest one being I fear being judged. Coming from a family of lawyers, engineers, and doctors, I'd feel like they (and other people I know) would think of me as immature and unprofessional. I have always been the fun, childish one of the family, but that was always seen as good because it was part of my personality, not my work life. They have been very supportive of my decision to change careers, but I still feel like this is a mental block for me.
There are already a few companies I am zeroing in on, and I have applied to several jobs, so I am moving forward! Now the biggest hurtle I need to leap is finding a contact in the industry to talk to. I will do a much better job of selling myself in person than my resume can do when competing against a sea of applicants, and I likely have a lot more flexibility when it comes to type of work. So I'm looking for ways to build my network and hoping to finally find that one person that will be the key to landing a job.
That's it for my rant, so I hope I didn't bore you. Hopefully in a year I will have another update with a new job title! Here's your GA:
GA: Dragon Ball Xenoverse
Reqs: Level 2
End: Fri May 13, 2:30 ET (UST -5:00)
Enjoy! And please bump!
