Hello! I've been a member for a looong time but took a long break and only recently came back, I have a few old humble choice keys to give but I'm not sure the safest/best option.
Is it even allowed by humble to gift humble keys like this or could I get banned? If I do give them away, shall I use the gifting link or the steam key?
Hope you all had a lovely holiday season and wish you all the best for the new year!

I was just worried Humble would not allow this kind of gifting of their keys, thank you!

HB's policy officially forbids making GAs with the games they sell. So using HB gift links is a bad idea if you are not protected by strong customer laws (EU citizen for example). It is safer to use steam keys.

I always recommend to claim the key and then to create a giveaway with the key. There are suggestions that HB links can be tracked and some users have had issues. Some links also sell out without the buyer knowing. As far as I know, keys cannot be tracked.

Welcome back :o)

Because you took a long break, be aware that nowadays a lot of autojoiners infest the public GAs, special the ones till level 3.
So if you plan to do public GAs and don't want to feed the owners of this autojoiner accounts, that use sometimes more as one account, then i recommend at least level 4 and to check your winners, in all cases, with sgtools.

If someone have red marks there request a reroll and put the link(s) into the support ticket.

This is solid advice. I'll also add that Enhanced SteamGifts and SteamTrades is a solid addon, and has a sgtool button that helps detect unactivated and multiple wins with a single click. It's a little question mark button next to the wins on profiles, which you click on in order to do your check. It's so simple and useful!

Always use Humble keys for giveaways and you should encounter no issues. Also, if you ever have to contact Humble Support, don't mention you're giving away the keys - they tend to frown on that, and may close your account.

+1 on this.

I would change "may" to "will"
Don't give Humble a stick to hit you with.

As everyone else has said best to use keys, though I have 2 things to add.

  1. Supposedly the theory behind Humble banning accounts is that of course Humble can see you creating a gift link, but with a key only the game developer can see who redeems said key, and all their records would show is that the key was assigned to Humble Store/Bundle, they can't tell X user from Humble bought the bundle and now Y account has redeemed the key.

  2. Even though you should use a key, do not do so instantly, instead it is best to click Gift first and then later key. This is to reveal any region restrictions that the game may have. If you click key you will only be given a key (which is assigned based on your region when you purchased it), but if you click Gift you will either be told to enter email (in which case there are no region restrictions), so cancel and reveal the key, or a window will popup that will tell you a region restriction is in place so here is a list of countries that can redeem. Now create your giveaway using the region restriction information provided, go back to Humble, cancel (close) the region restriction window, reveal the key, and do what you usually do (most now paste the key into the giveaway but some wait till the giveaway is over before doing so).
