"furry" Stopped reading this right there, if such blatant error is right in the beginning, reviewer clearly has no clue and review is worthless as a result.

A lack of familiarity with a minor, obscure terminology nuance has no bearing on the reviewer's ability to review technical details of the game. And given the lack of alternatives, we gotta take what we can get.

I bought it too -with all DLC's- (a few -fem- friends from me too) to go on the barricades against (more) censorship.

They can take the Nazi Symbols away, they can take gore away (yes germany censor such stuff in games... -_-) but they can't take all the Pixel Titties away. Thats too much.

Let us be over 9000 !!! :-D

...and because they earn money from us they should be interested on other "wishs"...

I don't even get why they want to remove those games? What goal Valve have in mind? Make store more kid friendly? What for? To make those kids spend more money? And who exactly is giving money to kids to spend? Yeah, guess what, adults do. And they might become displeased with shitty anti-adult attitude and dial down spending of both their kids and their own.

They were pressured by a Christian-conservative group to do it. Basically they got blamed for providing porn to children. This is a group that receives state funding in the US, and has a "blacklist" of sites that provides porn... or what they claim is porn (which might just be sex-ed). This would not be so bad, if they did not have some sway over Paypal, which is something Valve really does not want to get into trouble with.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They're a joke group that Valve has ignored up till now, it's a bit weird for Valve to suddenly be paying attention. But, y'know, Valve. Inexplicable behaviors are their forte. In theory, the whole issue seems to have blown over already anyhow.

There's probably something more happening, like them threatening to put pressure on Paypal if Valve does not play ball (just a guess, I don't actually have any sources to support that).

As far as I heard it is not over yet - Steam said they will "re-review" carefully and send specific feedback, instead of sending blanket statement "we don't like something" letters.

Wait, anybody still use Paypal anywhere else than eBay? What for? I understand buyers protection over there, but anywhere else it is just a useless hurdle + transaction fees. Aren't pretty much everyone have a bank card nowadays?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not sure if you're trolling or plain naive. I'm using paypal everywhere and if someone asks for my card details it's an instant "bye bye" for me. I don't assume they're after my card details, but I assume they will get hacked sooner or later. I sometimes buy at amazon with my card but only if there are no paypal-accepting alternatives.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sorry, but it is you who is naive. Look up PCI DSS. Any payment gate MUST adhere to each and every paragraph of this security practices or no bank will work with it. Considering those standards, PayPal is a WEAKER link with passwords, "secret questions" and other methods when someone can get hold of account and automatically receive access to your payment data circumventing all those security requirements. And of course PayPal was hacked en-masse about dozen of times already and personal accounts were phished/bruteforced/otherwise stolen many thousands times. How do I know that? I WORK in industry. So for your own sake, drop cargo cult security. Actually understanding what's going on will help you keep your money safe much more.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just to be clear, I don't trust paypal and I know it's not 100% secure. But it's still a much better option that just giving away my cc info to randomonlinestore.com. To be even more clear, I mostly pay with wire transfers when ordering stuff from online stores, but it's only viable when I'm in the same country, otherwise the bank fees are ridiculous. Thus for all the others it's pp or bust.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've had my Walmart.com account hacked into and someone order themselves a couple laptops at my expense. (Fortunately, I was able to call then and cancel the transaction before they shipped.) You might want ot keep your "other sites are safer than Paypal" bullshit to yourself in the future.

By using Paypal to pay on dozens of different sites, there's only one site that could get hacked and leak my info instead of sixty of them. It's good risk management to minimize your online financial footprint. For someone who supposedly work in the industry, you seem to know very little about it.

As pb1 pointed out, Paypal offers a great deal of safety over directly inputting your card information.
On top of that, things vary a lot from country to country as far as available payment methods go.

I believe Valve should improve age verification and not remove adult content. I'm not 10 years old anymore and should be able to play games that have adult content.

Why not? For that price I'm willing to give it a chance, I'm curious to see if it's actually full of furry futas cos that makes it sound kinda hilarious to me, and yeah, I'm also curious for other reasons.
Although I'm dissapointed that I have to buy a DLC to get the moth girl from the trailer, she was the cutest, and I'm not sure if I wan't to pay extra (also out of wallet so I'd need to pay with CC and that's real money).

No. By buying the game Valve at least gets to notice that many people are interested and buy VN's or support that they are being sold.
We are not that insignificant. Valve does make money from us and it sure would make a difference if VN's/Animes stopped being sold on Steam.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's been proven that Valve doesn't care. When they enforce a policy they don't go back. Gifting, Trading etc.

It is a useless protest to give Valve more money, and waste money in a game that doesn't look any good either.

To me it looks like the developer its making the most of it before the game gets removed.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's your opinion, but not mine.
The game was on my wishlist before the price drop, and if the dev hadn't changed the price I would have bought it anyway. It does look interesting to me as I have no prejudice.
I don't really care about Valve either. The only thing worth about Steam is the regional pricing. As soon as Mangagamer/Sekai Project/Denpasoft or any other dev/publisher creates a VN platform with regional pricing, I'll leave Steam in a heartbeat. At least I know I would be treated with more respect.
And I disagree. I believe the dev was protesting as I would have in such situation.

Permalink

np, I respect your opinion.
However Regional Pricing is SH*T. I live in a 3rd world country and still pay full price for games just like any US or EU user would.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

By regional pricing Rachelsfg referred to regions that have their own currency, often making it considerably cheaper than external sites with the universal $/€ currency. That's why people from those regions are critical about Fanatical or Humble sale, because Steam is ... I don't know, I guess at least 10-20% cheaper to begin with.
Btw EU users pay 15% more than US ones, and EU includes Germany and France, as well as Romania and the Balkans. I guess still better than paying from the "real" third world, but because of this I can say that Steam's regional pricing (or rather, currency) is one of the only good things about them right now.

They planned to go for all games with "pornographic content" just picked on the VN because from the reactions of the simpletons like you, people just go "who cares, anime bullshit" and mocks everyone who takes the problem seriously. As The Wticher Games, GTA, all the Bioware games, Farcry 3, basically all the moddable games do contain actually more implicit nudity than these VNs, and if Valve lets the jerks run amok who started this initiate, then it's likely that they will go after these games too.
It's about changing a fundamental rule of publishing games on Steam, and the VNs were falling victim to that. It's not an anti-VN change, it's an anti-nudity / "pornographic content" (whatever they want to mean about it) and that reaches way beyond these affected games. You would understand that if you would read the news instead of, as usual, coming in cluelessly and trying to find anything that you can complain about or mock it. Seriously, it would improve on your life quality and expectancy if you wouldn't live to complain and to make fun of things that you actually don't even understand. Though, you have at least one person on SG who behaves exactly like that, you two would really deserve eachother :P

You are certainly missing the point. This is about censorship and Valve's persecution. And not a single vn should have been removed for that reason. Also, for Valve to decide and remove them all on a whim doesn't take much.
