The time has come my friends. This is absurd. Fake giveaways and irresponsible inviting are hurting this community and Cult's sanity. I think the time for this free land of steam gifts should come to an end. I believe those who make fake giveaways and those who invited said people should be punished (banned or points disabled for a certain amount of time). CG has enough to do with updates and keeping this site up for more then 5 mins. However, I think mods should be given the power to do this. Remember invite responsibly.

How about a big f***ing flashing flash animation, with lots of noise and saying the rules and you have to accept it every time you visit the website?
Also make sure the animation is somehow designed to give idiots who cannot comprehend simple rules a siezure.

Lol @ Techno's Post.

I agree with that you at least have had to make 1 Successful (Person got it) Giveaway to make Invites. It would make everything better, plus a Max of like, 1 or 2 a Week? It would help with everything.

Banhammer really needs to come down hard and fast on people who even fiddle around the rules.

Agree up until you mention taking action against the people who invited the offender. I would definitely support putting some kind of moderator-viewable note on people whose accounts are linked to nefarious accounts (for the sake of seeing if it was something that only happened a couple times, or something that is being done on purpose) but the idea of banning people because they simply invited someone who was a bad egg is obscene in its own right.

This is the kind of thing that will force the community to be extremely small and paranoid (Read: "Oh no, I shouldn't invite anyone because then I am at risk of being screwed over in the long run" also "Oh hey I got banned because the guy who I invited got his account for steamgifts phished" I'll admit the second is extremely unlikely, but you could exchange 'Phished' with 'had his little brother get on it' for the same effect) and potentially tear itself apart.

This is right up there with the whole 'make it so people are forced to make giveaways' arguement. (That is neither here nor now, but I'm a firm believer you should give bonuses to the people who make a giveaway instead of penalties to those who do not. Though it seems I'm about the only one who does. Positive reinforcement and all that.)

I think the idea behind banning those who invite trolls/10 year olds is because people are being too free with the invitations. Someone mentioned giving invites on another site and while they checked up on em, not knowing if they could have just been a troll. How about being a little less free with your invites? The idea I thought was to invite people you like, people who would be a positive influence, someone you would trust, etc. If you don't know them well enough to gauge that, why are you bothering to invite them? Be a bit more discerning, don't toss invites on the Steam Group comment page, or someone that randomly sends you a message. I know there's the whole "I've got 300 points, what else should I use them on" thing but you don't have to spend the points, as odd as that sounds.

I'm not really saying give the banhammer to people that invite the tools, but something to discourage people from inviting willy nilly. For instance, someone you invite gets banned, you can't generate invites for a month or something similar. Perhaps the invite cost itself needs to be revised too.

I do believe you're talking about myself and others that give out invites on reddit after checking up on people - it's a legitimate way of expanding the user base, and I do believe Cult gives out invites on reddit after checking the same things we do. It's called generosity and giving people that look legitimate the benefit of the doubt.
