You know those days where you feel like utter shit and just want to die? You go to bed early just to skip that portion of your week and when you wake up, you're feeling fresh, inherently happy and hyped. Basically that's me today. I'm glad that I finally got rid of the migraine and can now relax during my weekend.

This thread might be a bit annoying, but I thought this might be quite relatable. :)

I don't have a giveaway to give you since I'm currently on full money-saving mode. Otherwise I'd just give you guys the $1 tier for the WB bundle or something. Sorry.

EDIT: A generous user, who has decided to stay anonymous, has given me some keys to spread some comedy, ass-kicking and magic to you! (Lvl 1+).
Thanks again to him and everyone else who has commented, voted on the polls and just checked this thread out. Hopefully you all have a nice day, week and even month :D

Do you have issues with heavy migraines?

View Results
Yes.
No.
Migraine sounds like margarine and it's been proven that margarine is worse than butter. I'm a clean and healthy child and you won't get me to admit otherwise!

I had one of those suckers last two whole days earlier this week. My neck is still a bit residually sore and tense. They almost always make me throw up too. Migraines are evil and they suck.

Can't agree with you more. The worst part is that it just takes away your focus. With my knee issues, I can still work and think relatively clearly. But with a migraine, I'm a total vegetable. Yesterday I tried reading an article for my next lecture and I started reading when all of a sudden, 5 minutes had passed, I had autopiloted through 3 pages of text and I remembered none of it.
I feel for you dude. Luckily I haven't had multiple day migraines yet, but since they've been getting worse, I've been preparing myself for one of those to kick in soon enough. I'm still enjoying those one day migraine commitments ;D

Not so heavy for me, luckily... But I can totally understand how it feels, even a lighter one is quite hard to manage. Happy you got rid of it! :D

The initial contrast between a migraine and just normalcy is an amazingly satisfying feeling. I was pretty much incapacitated yesterday, but the feeling now makes up for it. :D

Very occasionally, but sometimes. I am glad that yours is gone!
Also, margarine is good on potatoes. 😜

I've heard that too! Personally I don't use butter or margarine on anything, so I haven't had the chance to try it. One day though... one day ;)

take hot potatoes, cut them open and score them. Then add margarine and salt--the margarine wil melt (if the spud is hot enough) and carry the salt with it as it all throughout the potato. SOOO good! 😆

TIL what scoring means.

Ah, that actually sounds so good. Might have to do that even sooner than I thought I would :D

I get them a couple times a month, but only occasionally are they completely incapacitating. The only thing that helps is complete darkness, a lot of sleep, and peppermint oil.

Hmm, never heard of peppermint oil. Gotta check it out.
Usually the migraines I get are manageable, but recently I've started getting the worst ones I've ever had. I should go to a doctor and see what's up. But that's what I've been saying about different ailments over the last 3 years or so and I still haven't visited my GP. Mainly because she tends to dismiss a lot of what I have to say in favor of cheap over-the-counter medicine. "A strong knee pain that doesn't let you finish secondary school because you can't run, go up stairs or squat for 6 months? Perhaps you want to rub some Fastumgel on your knee..."

Eh, shouldn't complain. Today's a good day and there's no reason to add stress into it. Plus, it could always be worse.

Hopefully your migraines slow their roll and give you a break for a while at least. :D

My mother was the one who suggested I try the peppermint oil, actually. Of course, I didn't believe her at first (it just seemed an odd remedy to me), so it took me ages to even try it. I just rub a few drops on my temples, and the scent helps with the migraine. It's a relatively cheap remedy to try (I think I last paid about $6 for a bottle that will last months), and one I now recommend to anyone who gets migraines.

You're right about the feeling afterward. You not only feel "normal" again, but you feel better than normal. Just not having the migraine anymore improves your mood and energy immensely. xD

I think it's partially because the word "oil" has been tarnished by the MLMs and other such "remedies". I'll try and see where I could get my hands on a bottle of that then. I don't want to take ibuprofen that much either in case I become used to it and it loses its effect on me or something. Perhaps it's a weird worry, but still.

The feeling most definitely is amazing. The clarity and energy combined make me feel like I'm reborn or something. Sometimes I feel like having the migraine was a good thing just for that feeling. Obviously I'm never saying the same thing when I actually have that migraine ;)

Now I remember. I wasn't going to make a claim that I might've misremembered, but it was correct that it can cause bleeding in your stomach.
I barely know anything about medicine, so I'll have to look up what ibuprofen and paracetamol actually do differently.

+1 on the peppermint oil. In addition, I've found lavender oil and frankincense to be of some help (recommended to me by a friend). I also apply behind the ears and on the back of the neck at the base of the skull.

I'm glad you're on the other side of it! It reminds me of having a cold and then breathing in fresh air, it feels so incredibly vibrant and refreshing that you promise yourself to never take feeling well for granted again until you forget after a few days :P

I feel personally attacked here :D

My migraine schedule tends to also be more busy during colder months. I've nailed it down to the facts that the university is stressing me out a ton and also the heating in my house tries to kill me every time I light up the furnace. It's a bit of a mess, but as I mentioned earlier, it could be worse. At least it's only a weekly thing, not a daily thing. I might lose a day or so every week, but I still have 5-6 days to work with, so I'm still net positive, right? :D

I can only advise to try yoga, especially paying attention to neck. I had massive weather-connected migraines from childhood till my 27yrs, when i started yoga practicing, since then it got significantly better, now i only have those 'auras' (feeling weak & nauseous) when big storm front come, no real pains.

Yoga's always been one of those things that I've heard of, but I've never actually tried it. The whole chakra and spirituality portion has made me quite skeptical. Though, I might try it out in the future. I can't really bend too much, but hopefully it's enough to make the yoga work on me. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Yep, I've been there, too much spirituality talk can turn away, but there are some schools that are almost 100% materialistically oriented ('Iyengar Yoga' is the most popular network of classes). The terms in yoga usually have materialistic analogues in european psychosomatics.

And i assure you, i also couldn't bent much in my early life - couldn't reach the floor with my finger tips in a forward bend standing - yoga is essencially made for such people, and it really affects organic health - bad flow of internal liquids, spasms etc.

I suffered very shitty migraines when I was a teenager.
When I grew older they became less and less frequent.
My last attack was 4 years ago. Hope you'll be as lucky as me.
I know how it feels bro....

I'm happy for you, man! If I was you, I'd have probably never even written anything because I'd be afraid I'd jinx it or something. Hopefully I'll get past it. In all honesty, I wasn't even sure if you could be in a situation where you actually get rid of migraines for good.

I didnt know that either. And maybe its not gone... I dont know.
I just know that its possible migraines change over time. The migraine version I had is gone. (The complete left part of my body would feel numb and I looked like I had a stroke. Blurry flashy eyesight. Severe headache).

Well that's funny, I actually had a pretty strong headache yesterday evening even though I don't normally have migraines, and yeah getting to sleep was tough but waking up all fresh felt so good :)

My advise is to drink more water.

I used to get migraines when I drank mtn dew voltage everyday, now that I only drink water I don't ever get so much as a headache.

Skip the coffee, skip the soda, skip the sugar, drink up to a gallon of water a day and you won't ever have another headache.

It definitely helped me cut down the amount of migraines I had for sure. But now I still do the same (though I do drink a coffee or two per week) and as stress factors and bad climate have started coming in again, my migraines have returned and they're worse than they've ever been. I don't even want to know how bad they'd be if I was constantly dehydrated...

9 days? Jeesh... Even 1 day is a massive issue for me. I'm sorry you're going through that...

Also, don't thank me for the giveaways. The games were a generous donation by an anonymous member of the merchants guild, funding all migraine related content since 1462.

Thanks for your words.
They brought me to smile.
To be honest before i had my first migraine (sadly that isn't this one) i thought was it is a "females illness" that can't hit me.
We have today summer weather (temp. excluded). Sunny like hell, great for sitting on the balcony and read a book. And i lay 3/4 of the day in a dark room not in the same room as the comp.. Thats frustrating. Besides all the pain.

I can't advice to Prograf, a medicine that are normaly given after translantations

My best friend had "always" (very very often) migraine.
A part came from the white rafinated sugar. He changed it to other sugar ones and that helped him partly.
The second one was that he had a high blood pressure and done years nothing against it. Since he (must) take blood thinner his migraines are gone.
Maybe helpfull when you have again ones

Both help me not because mine come from medicine that i can't drop in the next 2 weeks

I used to get migraines pretty regularly. Like twice a week type of regularly, but they just stopped around a year ago. Only change was that I was put on Klonopin (benzo) temporarily for a couple months. They just sort of stopped coming on while I was taking my meds, and then didn't start back up after I came off my meds. Really hoping they don't come back because I always felt like I got run over by a truck the next day ._.

I'm really glad you're feeling well though :) I know how rough a migraine can get

Yes.
Fortunately here in Northern Italy/Switzerland we have an awesome health care system, otherwise I would probably still be in those centres specialized for headaches (I think "cefalea" translates to "headache" in English directly).
Anyways, I had a lot of issues in my teenage years due to rhinosinusitis, massive headache and fever given by infections of the respiratory tract.
I underwent FESS surgery and I had to skip two months of school - this reduced a lot my problems, but still I kept on having tons of problems.
Then we had around 18-20 years old a new approach in those centres specialized in migraines and headaches, both psychological and medical, and for the medical part I started to take vaccines and meds made specifically for my kind of recurrent headaches, that were all generated from wind, low temperatures, mucus, flu, simple colds or other things like that.. I had to take many precautions, particular things to wear when going outside and so on but finally I managed to get to know my chronic and acute headaches.
This meant also that I treated them on a psychological way, since stress, anxiety, depression and so on had a huge impact on creating or hardening my headaches.
I'm really happy you feel better, there's most of the times really a concrete and effective cure for all these things related to chronic and acute headaches, although it takes time and you're forced to go to centers and doctors specialized in them, not primary care physicians who of course aren't often capable to handle these specifical matters.

I get auras with mine and will get up to 3 - 6 a day when it's really bad (each aura ramps up the pain). This will go on for months if I do nothing. Regular epsom salt baths prevent/stop them for me (2-3 a week seems to do it) and keeps me migraine free, but it takes a while if a run of them has started. I try to have them regularly but life gets in the way sometimes. They started after I went off the pill so I'm guessing it's hormonal for me? Change of season (spring/fall) also seems to bring them on. MSM (sulphur) taken on a regular basis decreases the pain involved with them for me. I don't know why those things work for me but I'm grateful they do!
