I backed a few here and there. One of the most memorable was Out Of words. Clay animation/puppet co-op puzzle game (very excited). When I backed it in 2022 I told my dad I would probably have a wife and kid by the time it was out, and we'll yep. I was right lol. I also backed PEPPERED which I am giving away LVL 3.

I have also backed some other stuff, one wallet 5/10, sunglasses 6/10, and Ice maker 0/10 (awful), kitchen knife 10/10 killer blade, South Korean smoker 10/10, portable dishwasher that still hasn't been sent yet ;-; 0/10.

I backed some games waaay back in 2012-2013, wow (had to look it up on the website)!
All turned out pretty good I think:

  • Wasteland 2
  • Pillars of Eternity
  • Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey
  • Torment: Tides of Numenera

Nice track record. You have a talent for picking good games to kickstart.

I was basing it on the talent behind the projects so it seemed mostly as safe bets!
Plus, I was very excited about the revival of classic CRPGs at the time and wanted to support it any way I could, happy how it all turned out 🙂

CRPGs was why I backed them as well. Glad they got some love again.

For games kickstarted Hat in Time and Knights ands bikes.

It took years, obviously, but I basically forgot the whole thing over said years. Took quite lot of loops to get the keys after I remembered.

I didnt know kickstarter was like it was because those were like the first waves of games to come out there.
Was bit disappointed that I had limited time to activate key so I missed my initial hat in time redeem. "Thankfully" they teamed up with Humble as publisher and if I remember right they send me one automatic on humble account, because email matched my humble account.
I did get Knights and bikes tho.

Backed few comics which worked fine.
And one sci-fi movie. That was pretty much shitshow. First they went into NFTs mid-production, as you do.. then there was limited screening of the movie on like Vimeo which I missed, and after that its only available in niche indie streaming site thats only availble in certain big countries. So I never got to see it lol.

While I do join different crowdfunding campaigns I ever kicked video hame only once. It was Armikrog (from the creator of Neverhood). It was released so long after I backed it that I completely forgot I did that.

Wasteland 2, Bard's Tale 4 and Factorio.

Wasteland 2 was ok, but lacked some polish.
Bard's Tale 4 was a turd but fortunately backers got the original trilogy remastered so that ended up as a win.
Factorio is bloody excellent and I'm still playing it almost 2000 hours later, probably my best spent 8 quid or whatever it was when I backed it.

I don't back anything any more though, too many failed kickstarters out there.

I prefer to kickstart tabletop RPGs or board games. But early days I kickstarted things like Wasteland 2, Tides of Numenera, Pillars of Eternity. But also Star Citizen. Will the single player campaign ever release? Who knows. Dungeon Alchemist is interesting.

TTRPG is going well. Brindlewood Bay, Triangle Agency, Break!!, Inevitable, Legend in the Mist, Coyote and Crow, etc. Boardgames I got some meh games early on when it was cheap and exciting, so have been more discerning since.

I backed some games - all got delivered and were fine - some gadgets - all got delivered and were mostly ok - and a portable touchscreen - never got delivered and never got the money back.

I have backed board games and an OVA, no video games... but I did technically get a total of 2 steam keys out of all my backing... but that wasn't the intent of the backing.

I kicked my old PC as a kid to start a game. Does that count?

Yes! I just gave away a couple of Kickstarter keys, actually.

Spilled
Infection Free Zone

I have three that were funded and now I'm just waiting for the keys: Hawthorn, Outbound-Cozy Camper Van and Wayward Realms.

Also, I feel like this is a good opportunity to mention two Kickstarter campaigns that end soon:

I was actually thinking about starting a weekly thread for Kickstarter projects, but I didn't know if there would be much interest.

I backed five or six games that had some veteran developer I knew and respected behind them and that weren't too ambitious. So far they all ended up in good games.

I've kickstarted a few games now. I first did it with I Just Want to be Single!! I like visual novels and it seemed interesting being one where the goal is to not date anyway instead of the usual. It definitely turned into a totally different game then it was meant to but that doesn't bother me to much

I've actually played a few of my keys this month and they've been great. I've been keeping the time lines short, so nothing more then a year out. I feel like if it goes out longer I can just spend my money in a few years time rather then waiting for it for who knows how long

I have kickstarted a few games. A few of them still being made, sloooowly, but so far, so good, and others that were completed. No bad experiences so far.

I backed

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yachtclubgames/mina-the-hollower

(not yet available, but seems like it's going to be released)

And I did my own kickstarter too:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1813162540/alien-video-game-scientist-3d-puzzle-platformer-collectathon

which while being slightly late (2 months delay) was fully delivered, with full promised scope.

Not a proper KickStarter tho, but I bought some alpha and, expect Enshrouded, all were a disappointment, either they did not finish or the final release emptied the game.

Good one: Enshrouded, 100% recommend
Meh: POEII and Black Skyland (all tuto are irrelevant now, game is nice but not what we had during alpha/beta -no more sandbox)
Nope: Fera the Sunderred Tribes, game look nice, gameplay was ok, would have be better if polished, but not enought moeny to finish it.

Nothing that ever was released :(
Peppered looks pretty cool though. Must be nice backing something that actually gets finished and looks good.

When I backed it in 2022 I told my dad I would probably have a wife and kid by the time it was out, and we'll yep. I was right lol.

:D there are worst things to be right about
You do seem to pick winners. Out of Words looks phenomenal.

I recently backed Poco. It's a free game by a group of students who were headed by the person who made BirdGut, which is a free platformer that's really quite fun. Poco has super great artstyle and the reviews are exceedingly great right now. I couldn't give much, but my name should be in the credits :)

Out of Words looks great, I just wish it were on Steam.

Quite a few video, board and card games already. Invested the most in Shenmue III - I know people were complaining about a lot of stuff but I loved it.

Out Of words looks interesting. I hope it will come to steam one day. I will not give Epic a cent ever :P

But no, I'm not the backer type. There are so many projects that never happened or were underdelivered, so I'm sticking to working down my existing backlog and don't give money for maybes. That's why I don't buy early access games as well.

But what is a Korean smoker?

I backed Starr Mazer in 2015. It never came out, and they stopped updating us 2 years ago. I gave up on that one.

Four Horsemen which came out but I still haven't played.

Eldet, in which the single dev got overwhelmed with the process and promised timeline so he refunded everyone and continued development privately with few public updates over the years. Still hopeful on this one coming out.

Prehistoric Kingdom which is out and still receiving regular updates

And Boyfriend Dungeon which I also still have not played ^^"
