the thing is...well i read a lot on the net, most about research on topics i like (social media, current games i play/future ones, art, music etc) so i have like 20+ tabs open...so yea i like reading ^_^ but...and there is a but...

just cleaned my browser cache (you know temporary files, history etc) as it gotten slowish (kindev obvious why :-D) and after i clicked delete i remembered i forgot to backup the browser session history :-P

so i lost all my 20+ open in-read tabs...now i have just 5 and its so fast..but so...empty...i dont like empty :-/

well then in few days it will be full again :-P

so enough about that...what about you? how many tabs do you keep regularly open? and how do you deal with backup your continued research your doing from time to time on the net?

sorry no GA (until i will get a job or so...)

i never - never close tabs (until my pc explodes :-P)
gamers dont read! who really reads these days? better stay ignorant fool :-P
really? im only here for...naa im not here at all (potato/tomato/banana etc)

I really like to read... My favourite passtime is going to wiki and opening random interesting articles or reading Quora... xD
But I HATE many tabs and windows... It drives me crazy, looks messy and feels bad... So I usually have 3-4 tabs open at a time... It's not that I am reading more than one page at a time xD
As for the organization, I open a page at a time... Or, if something really interests me that much/or I need it later, I put it in a Temp folder in my Bookmarks...

edit. I also hate restoring previous sessions in my browser xD I don't know why, but I really don't like it... Reminds me of malware/adware when I open a browser and don't see a blank page...

On chrome i do most of my games related stuff here so I have some tabs of steam market stuffs on, some tabs on sg on, bundles site, email account and some game guide site. On firefox, I do most of the reading there, so some mangas that i am trying to cover, another email and news sites. I have some commonly visit sites like facebook and barter bookmark easily accessible right below the url so that cut down some of the tab being left open.

wow..same question as i asked jims...how do you track so many tabs? dosent your pc crashes? O.o

I don't. It's painful. I just can't resist the temptation to open more and more interesting links as background tabs.

A browser with many tabs can't crash the PC. It can only make it slower, but having 8GB RAM with an i7 4770K CPU helps keep thing bearable.

If I'm doing some research, I'll usually just keep opening new tabs as I find new links, not closing old one... you never know when you'll come back to 'parent' tab. Also, more instances of same page is also quite common in my case, but not on same paragraph.
So far haven't crashed FireFox, I'm guessing thankfully to 8GB mandatory RAM.

its very similar to what im doing usually only i have just 4GB RAM...but yea its easier to compare data and clarify things, i also sometimes do a text file with head notes (usually for games) for data i already checked for reference :-)

I'm A.D.D. as hell, so I'll often start reading a page about one subject, and within the hour I'll have 20+ tabs open with completely varying topics.

For instance -- yesterday I was looking for an easy way to get a stain out of the carpet, then someone suggested vinegar, then I wanted to know how vinegar was made, then went on to BBQ sauce (because vinegar is in some BBQ sauces), then looked up recipes for Carolina BBQ sauce, then on to smoking meats, then to amazon to check smoker prices, then started browsing the items amazon had chosen for me based on my previous page views, ended up shopping for a new mouse, then googled a few mouse reviews, ended up checking out a new motherboard review, etc etc etc ...

All because of a carpet stain -_-

Regularly, just one. But I will get into tangents and get distracted etc and wind up with at least 5 or more open. but I don't think I've ever gone over 10.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

nice...what is "tangents" (if its ok to ask)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Tangent in this context is "digressing suddenly from one course of action or thought and turning to another" For example, I'm reading a wikipedia article on tigers. Then I open a new tab to start reading about Whinnie the Pooh, a somewhat related tangent based on the character Tigger obviously being a tiger. A tangent from Whinne the Pooh would be if I start reading about robins. From there Batman. And so on and so on.
So if I go off on a tangent while browsing I usually do want to come back to what I was doing before so I'll leave several tabs open.

I usually have two Chrome windows opened on two separate monitors with 10-20 tabs each. I've taken a habit of opening certain types of site on one monitor over the other so I don't lose track of what's where as much. When I start researching something and I open a lot of tabs on that particular subject, I will usually grab the tabs and create a third (or fourth) window for them to unclutter the existing ones. Or I will just pick a tab and move it over my third monitor so I can compare stuff between two pages side by side.

Between 80 and 160 (not kidding).

The real problem is memory leaks, though -- even if you close those tabs, some of the memory never comes back unless you close the whole browser, so you can't prolong a browsing session indefinitely. Eventually, it slows down the computer to a point where all it does is paging memory, and you have to kill the process.

how do you track ~160 tabs?

Permalink

Nothing special, I just keep them together in the tab bar: a couple of tabs with mails, some research, some Facebook, some SG, puzzles, Steam, GOG, Wikipedia... it adds up quite quickly.

I have four open now, two social sites, humble bundle and this page right here. That's pretty much all I have open. Open new tabs when I enter giveaways and close them as I enter them, but otherwise I don't need tons of windows, If I read something, I just read it and close it lol

have to ask you as well how do you track so many tabs?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't truck all of them at once. When I click a link, there is another one on the new page. I click it, there is another one. And so on...

And I'm a little lazy to read long articles so I postpone them. By this way, there are a lot of tabs, waiting to be read, watched etc.

do you tend to go back to them to read/watch?

It really, REALLY depends. When I work, 10+. When I browse Imgur, 20+. When I browse SG, 5+ to 10+.
Most of the times, only one tab because I like to keep it clean. I'll always open links in a new tab, though.

I for some reason don't like having too many tabs open. Maybe I'm scared of losing them? Anyway, anything I wish to read later is thrown into one of many bookmark folders where I may or may not get to it later. So I'm rarely above 5 tabs.
