Seems like a good deal and I really like me some TR, but preorders have no guarantee on quality.

Also, they haven't even announced the system requirements yet. If you have a state of the art computer, that may not be an issue, but otherwise it'd say it's pretty risky to preorder something you might not even be able to run properly. I am pretty sure, that my box wouldn't qualify anyway.

Can someone enlighten me what the hell is the point of the "deluxe" edition? Because it seems like giving free money to the publisher. At least the "Croft" edition translates to "base game + season pass (also, enjoy the myriad of multiplayer DLCs for a game mode that will be dead yet again in 3 months tops, suckers!)".

Deluxe Editions seem to be quite popular. I am always baffled when I read here on SG that someone definitely wants the Deluxe Edition of game XY. And when I look up what it contains, almost all of the time it's just the soundtrack, wallpapers and maybe a skin or two. If you are extremely lucky you even get a game-breaking weapon on top of that. ^^ I will never understand why people pay 10+€ for just that (unless they are truly interested in the soundtrack, but most people are not).

Pre-orders on Steam are totally fine now => refunds. This "never pre-order" thing came up way before refunds.

Would've been great if Steam refunded the actual money to you and not some virtual currency...
Now it's like taking something you bought back to the store because it didn't work and having the shopkeeper tell you:
"Okay, as long as you didn't touch your item too much, you can have something else from my shop for the same price... in about 2 weeks... by the way, I have an infinite amount of every item you see here, but I can't give you the money back because that's my shop's policy and I already wiped my ass with it. Also, I like to find loopholes in EU laws."
...maybe I'm being a bit hurt by the fact that sometimes I'd like to buy a game with the little money I have, but only one particular game, and refund it if I don't like it, to spend my money on food or something useful rather than being forced to buy another thing from the store. I sometimes have to resort to pirating a game just to see if it works well on my PC. :(
Edit: I just noticed this is one week old. Oh, well, it's not a year. And I was just rambling, only my first sentence isn't said half-jokingly. :)

Maybe you should inform yourself a little better before complaining? ;)
Steam refunds back the way you paid. If you paid with Steam wallet - then yes, you only get wallet back. But if you paid with Paypal, you get your money sent back to your Paypal account. Same goes for credit card and every other payment method. Steam is even able to split the payment. So if you paid 10€ with your wallet and had to pay another 5€ with Paypal, you will get it back exactly like this. 10€ back to your wallet, 5€ back to your Paypal.
So, it's actually the way it's supposed to be. It was like that from the beginning. And you don't need to pirate to see if a game runs well on your PC.

Really? I remember paying with my credit card and having a refund for two games, then having my money refunded in my Steam wallet.
I found this now in their refund policy:
"If, for any reason, Steam is unable to issue a refund via your initial payment method, your Steam Wallet will be credited the full amount. (Some payment methods available through Steam in your country may not support refunding a purchase back to the original payment method."
I suppose something like this happened in my case.
I was so sure of the wallet refund thing that I didn't even do a Google search, so yeah, my mistake. I have a PayPal now, so I will use that from now on.
Thank you! I don't mind at all that my argument was shut down, I'm glad I was wrong, knowing this will save me a great deal of effort! :)

I wasn't aware that there might be problems with certain payment methods in certain countries. Yeah, could be the case for you, unfortunately. All I know is they advertised it from the beginning that way and it always worked flawlessly for me and everyone I talked to.
You're right, Paypal will probably work just fine. :)

This is why you should pre order every game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFLWt2KBRW8.

$35 would have been nice, but once i get into my regional pricing it gets back to €60 and the coupon doesn't even work. Too bad.

SoTR had been 25% off on GMG before. Then 22% off for a while after. A nice discount regardless, the highest from authorised resellers as far as I can tell.
Not getting it right away though. Not for the price, but because I prefer playing complete games, and this DLC schedule just doesn't suit a game like Tomb Raider. You'll end up finishing the story and then having to return to play a side mission or a new tomb. It makes more sense for me to play the game as a whole once everything is out.

The stacked discount is ended. The 25% discount voucher is still valid.
GMG is currently offering 25% off many pre-order titles with the coupon: EARLYBIRD25. The list of many options is here.
I noticed that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is on sale already and the coupon is stackable.
Options and Prices with Coupon:
Base game = $35.99
Deluxe Edition = $40.94
Croft Edition = $52.64
These are some incredibly low pre-order prices for a game of this caliber from an official seller, so happy shopping!
