I imagine the games will still go on the bundle list?
I know some people in the past (and still now) like to buy it and give it away as one of the games even though it unlocks many games. (Usually the most expensive one.)

I don't see this system going anywhere seeing as the one dollar minimum thing stayed as well and people hated that.

Though honestly, I don't get the point of making you link, the one steam key for all games was pretty much the same thing? It could only be linked to one account. I don't understand the change.

(Speaking of things I Don't get. I don't understand why regular humble bundles were all different keys, and weeklys are one key. And I also don't why why they even implemented the separate key things, seeing as they didn't like people giving away the keys, yet they almost encouraged it by having lots of different keys.)

The humble bundle people are weird. :p

You totally can. Just take the games you want for your account, unlink the account, sign in with your brothers, and then link again on the Humble page. I put my extra games on an alt account to test it out, works fine.

I always sort of preferred the separate keys. Often enough, I've seen bundles have a game previously offered. With separate keys, instead of that one going to waste, I loved how you can always just pass it along to friends or even throw it up on here for someone else to get a chance at the game that they might enjoy. I understand its a charity, but sometimes its nice to be able to spread the love. Just how I feel about it, though.

I foresee a lot of extra Steam accounts getting created and being traded... There's always going to be some new scam. At least with the old method a lot of straight up peeps were just gifting or trading their extra keys. With this, I think there is going to be a whole new level of madness...

You weren't allowed before either. They just found a way to enforce their TOS and stop people from splitting the bundles. You're getting a bunch of games at around 98% off, so yes, they're expecting you to actually buy a second bundle if you want to gift it.

Someone has addressed that and said you can activate each Game (or set) on different steam accounts - the main thing here is that you need to be able to log in with that steam account's info - which should prevent things like reselling since people are not likely to trust a stranger logging in to their steam account to activate.

Also, you can't use your Steam client to do it. It must be from a web browser.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Redeeming keys through the Steam client was always a huge pain. This is much easier than before, especially considering that you had to use a web browser to fetch the keys anyway. Now it's even less effort than copying the key to the clipboard.

Of course you are perfectly capable of using your Steam client to do it, given that it is a web browser.

They can run whateva system they want, but my purchases will now be limited to the games i personally want. Which makes up about 10% of the bundles i buy.

sure it will stop the reselling of keys as "per key exploit the cheap price", but it will also dropped the amount of people buying them now.

No, you are forced to connect it to your Steam account. No keys, no matter what.

You don't get the games. Once you connect your Steam account to redeem one of them, next time you press the button for redeeming they will be automatically on your account.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There's no reason not to connect your Steam account. All it does is tell it which Steam account to redeem the games into and give it permission to do so. It doesn't give them any other access to your account whatsoever. You can also unlink your Steam account at any time. The only differences between this and and keys is that this is more convenient and you can't easily hand keys to strangers anymore.

Humble Bundles are usually far better than waiting for an 80% price reduction on Steam. This makes it horribly exploitable. As someone who doesn't buy bundles with the intent of splitting the keys up, I like this change.

It's less money for humblebundle.com, but potentially more money for the devs in the long run.

I do think that I will miss the ability to add duplicate keys to my alt steam accounts so I can obtain the cards from those games.

I'm all for this new system if it means we can get even better bundles. They wanted to tackle reselling and they did quite effectively.
It's too bad for the GAs but most people were just annoyed by the amount of bundle GAs during the bundles anyway.

SG doesn't have access to make changes to your Steam account. All it does is look at your games list which is publicly available anyways.

There is a big difference between "read-only" access and "read-write".

It would be deeply concerning if a third party were able to remove games you have purchased independently, or otherwise interfere with your Steam account.

This change certainly raises some interesting (and potentially worrying) questions.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You login through the steam API, which tells you humble bundle wants access to activate steam keys on your account.
Nowhere does it say that humblebundle wants access to delete any games from your account.

It would be plain stupid if a 3rd party can do something to your account (deleting games) that you cannot even do yourself (have to contact support)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

We would get a shitload of free games!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree. No 3rd party game re-seller like Humble, GMG, Amazon etc should have direct access to our Steam accounts. Nor should they be able to deny us a copy of a game we bought just because we had a copy on our Steam accounts.

Our Steam accounts should really be none of their business at all. They should just give us the games we paid for and leave it as that.

lol .. I paid for those games :O (1$) you have no right to deny me the one I already owned before.. it doesn't matter I get 60$ of games anyway I want that extra 10$ game you're not giving me an extra copy of.

Whine some more maybe someone will give you a lollypop.

When I pay my $6, Humble is ready to provide me with brand new licenses for all the games in the bundle. They have a stock of keys from the devs, and my purchase secures me one of each game. If I had a brand new account with zero games, this is exactly what they would give me.

So why is it that if I have previously purchased half of these games that I am all of a sudden no longer entitled to all of the licenses I just paid for? Because I bought (likely for much more money) some of these games in the past? Humble is now only providing me with half of the keys that had been reserved for me when I initially made my payment. Why do they get to keep the key/license that I just paid for?

Humble gets it's share, the dev gets their share, and I get nothing?

Yes, the price is low so it's easy to just look at it being 3 games for $6 rather than 5 (as an example) but for me it's the principal that irks me. The actual dollar amount is irrelevant, I just dislike the idea of being denied a 2nd copy of the media I just purchased.

But please, call this "whining" if you think that strawman helps prove your point. Meanwhile, I'll call it what it is; a legitimate criticism of an anti-consumer policy. Failure to provide the product I purchase should be considered theft; only in the wishy-washy world of digital distribution would this ever fly.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep I call that whining and if you're not happy with the conditions of the sale, which are clearly laid out before you make your purchase, then just don't buy.. you have every right not too.

The new system still let's you share extra keys with people you actually know and are close enough to you to link your account to, but it stops the monetizing of extra bundle keys. It was never really allowed for people to trade or sell their extra keys, people like you simply didn't care. So I'll say it again.. keep whining but they have every right to set up whatever rules they want to apply to their bundle sales.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm sorry, but there are plenty of member I can discuss this with that don't resort to petty insults and straw-man attacks. You want to call legitimate criticism "whining"? Fine, whatever, but don't expect my respect or my reply after this post.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

All you can say is you feel insulted and attacked because I use the word 'Whining' ..
Legitimate criticism ? You mean you feel entitled to criticize the way Humble Bundle deals with their business.

Because you bought from them you think you have every right to complain about their rules. Their new system is no worse than a single key per bundle tier.. you still get the games you paid for. It just so happens you already own some, you want them 2 times in your library, would that make you happy?

Come the fuck on, if you want to give some to your brother you can spare another $1 (or, you know, just log into his account). Gamers are so spoiled, you act as if the bundle system "owes" you something. Yes, it sucks that you can't utilize the spares anymore, but is it an injustice?
