Disagree. Let the gifters choose what they want. Maybe somebody gets to steamgifts for the first time, doesn't want to wait a full day just to give a bunch of keys he has.

Especially because there's only a certain number of giveaways you're allowed to do based on how many you've given away before (and how many you had to delete). I like being able to do short ones (a few hours) or long ones (up to weeks) depending on a lot of things. If a key is going to expire in a day, I'd like to try to get it gifted to someone within the hour and then they can redeem it right away. On the other hand, if I'm giving to a group a less popular game most people have, I'd like to have it open for at least a day to try to get 5 entries.
The freedom is nice and forcing 1+ days on people doesn't feel in the spirit of the site.

"To guarantee not missing any giveaway, the users must check every hour for new giveaways"
Well it's free world, you don't need to check them... Ofc I'd like to not miss interested giveaways either, but this ain't some communist site where "rules" are push onto XD
EDIT: Cheers to 1 person for blacklist XD

Ha! "Atheistic amen" ... I like that and will unapologetically steal that from you. :)

This guy has won more games in the last 3 weeks than I have in the last 12 months, (and in fact has won more games in the last year than I have in my whole time being on this site,) and yet he has the nerve to complain about missing out on joining even more giveaways that he won’t play. THAT is the point I’m making here.
So, with all due respect, please look at the bigger picture here.

im so sorry if you got it for you, i responded under your comment but was talking about him when saying "you" and was 100% okay with your remark. Just tried to say more than +1 lol. I apologize and dont worry i often check profiles before to say a sentence like this

on your first winning page I can see at least 30% of good or great games, not shovelwares. 50% of them were public GAs . I wont review in details or more pages, but you shouldnt consider you as unlucky. I saw a guy who has 1 win on 4500 entries. This is unlucky.
Any few entries lost game brings you to unlucky statistics so its not a good base to count when you benefit of groups or private GAs
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, that's just downright rude towards GA creators. If you didn't want this games, why on Earth did you enter the GAs?
Comment has been collapsed.
Shovelware mostly
Why enter for games you consider shovelware? It seems like your main issue is how much time you spend on the site and how you just want to win as many games as you can. So what if a giveaway happens while you're sleeping? I mainly come for the discussions and stay for some giveaways of wishlisted games and I've been trying to get much better at playing all my wins (thanks PAGYWOSG!). Instead of looking at numbers and stats, look at the almost 300 games you do have. Play them, enjoy them, get offline sometimes and go for a walk.
EDIT: at least complete 1 game, geez.

I dont tink we should limit what others can do because a few people have compulsive disorders. If it has gone so far that you have to do something every hour "just in case you miss something". Then maybe its time to take a break from the site.

Try telling that to most of the curated parts of the internet, like various parts of Reddit, which has deemed it to be arbiters of morality like this. There's game deal & bundle subreddits that don't allow for linking to SG, any mystery bundles, etc.
I personally don't like mystery bundles and same with lootboxes, but I think its dumb to not allow posting them here or elsewhere. I think its even dumber that subreddits don't allow linking to SG because there's some game store that might have something like a grey market even though SG disagrees.

Thats pretty far off-topic. I was talking about that we shouldnt limit the minimum amount of time for giveaways just because OP wants to join everything :)

You forgot about the pace at which points regenerate : even with 1 day as the shortest GA duration, gamers nerfed by this compulsive FOMO debuff would still have to come multiple times a day in order to have enough points to enter the GAs ! 😝

How about learning to not worry that you might 'miss out' on something? You remind me of this (brilliant) song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FFsyj0R_8c

Not for FOMO but it's a lovely song your comment reminded me of.

it might be a good idea to reduce load to the site (and possibly users who are using scripts to enter giveaways), but i still think it's unnecessary. i mean, it's their key. let the gifters do whatever they want with them. i saw some gifters that were complaining about giveaway slots and winners who gave slow feedback when they have a lot of keys to give away, and taking this away will just add more annoyances to them.

Doesn't make much sense to me, even though longer GAs mean a lower percent of bot entries.
IMO, autojoiners should be dealt with by changing the rules and permanently banning them, when caught (which is not really hard, but requires some effort, which is not worth it, if they are to receive just a slap on the wrist and going to be back after a week).

Unpopular opinion: make giveaway duration random :v

This is actually not much different from saying "let the users auto-join giveaways of they want". You don't have to join all the giveaways. Let some people have a higher chance, what's the big deal. Also you have a big backlog just from SG, play them first maybe? According to "Do You Even Play, Bro?" you haven't touched 90 of your wins.

Flash giveaways or quickies are part of the fun. It's like you won the lottery, even if you didn't actually win the giveaway.
And if I miss any of those giveaways, oh well. I don't think we should be placing more restrictions on the charitable individual. Smacks of entitlement on the part of those requesting for a change to the current system.
EDIT: That phrasing sounds insulting to the OP and it's NOT meant that way. More just that we should appreciate those creating giveaways rather than telling them that they're not doing it to our standards.

Well, at least pretty much everyone agrees that this idea is ridiculous.

I think you are asking for a GA with a time frame of more than one day if possible.
In my opinion, it would be better to set a longer period.
However, there are circumstances that necessitate setting the current status of one hour.
Some Steam keys expire if they are not redeemed by a certain time.
It's probably one way to make sure that someone else receives it to enjoy before it expires.
Occasionally, some people purchase the game on the Steam Store sale and transfer it during the sale period.
Winners must make an effort to contact the donor at the date and time specified by the donor before entering the contest to receive their prize.
(For example, you are not obligated to hand out prizes during the sale, but it is desired.).
Anything shorter than one hour is not required, as it may be used for cheating, abuse, or spamming.
The people who check over and over again know that.
The lottery period for good games is often long.
Games that have been bundled before are often shorter.
It's almost useless to check like an OCD.
Even if you win, it doesn't matter if you can't afford to play.
If winning at SG is playing and not playing the game, it is probably a sign that you are a time thief and your body and mind have been ruined by the shenanigans of modern society, so disconnect from the Internet and take a break for a while.
(⚡💻🔥Disconnect from the Internet and take a break☕. Play the games you win when you can🎮📺.)
I would like to add, since the space translator is not working well, that this is about SG participants in general, not you personally.👀

"Occasionally, some people purchase the game on the Steam Store sale and transfer it during the sale period."
That is how I gave away my 2 giveaways so far. I am still pretty new to SG, but I wanted to do a giveaway during the Winter Sale (because I didn't have any keys for games). I wanted to try and make sure they added me on Steam before the sale was over so I could gift it to them. The giveaways were longer than 1 hour, but also shorter than 1 day.

Hi. I propose that a limit of one day to miminum giveaway duration be enforced on all public and whitelist/group giveaways.
Giveaways can be created with a duration of one hour. Many giveaways are created like this.
To guarantee not missing any giveaway, the users must check every hour for new giveaways. This results in compulsive behaviour, checking the site even every few minutes, every time the user has one brief moment and is unsure of being able to check the site again during the next hour.
Increasing minimum giveaway duration gives the user greater certainty about being able to check the site again, decreasing compulsive checking. Since people routines and schedules are usually organized daily, a duration of one day is the minimal duration that better adjust to most people's lifes.
This applies to public and whitelist/group giveaways, since those demand the user to actively check for updates. Invite only giveaways are announced differently, and not incurr in the compulsive checking deriving from short minimum giveaway duration.
