You never noticed?
Ruins a lot of songs, mostly because it's often so noticeable in interrupting the flow of the song.
VEVO on Youtube got a lot of negative feedback over that, because for the longest time they were forcing fan videos of songs off youtube, while only putting up censored radio versions of songs. I THINK they've started also putting non-censored versions up now..
Anyway, song censorship is a mess, but some bands actually record radio-safe versions where they stick in tongue-in-cheek references, puns, or joke words, and that's often good for a laugh.
I straight out skip a song as soon as a censored part comes on, though, otherwise- it's just too jarring to the song flow, for me [and honestly, it's offensive to all involved, far more than the censored words would be].

Regarding the radio safe puns, this song comes to mind. Start listening here for the part where it begins.

I don't listen to songs or radio much, really. Probably why I never noticed.

I haven't heard the version with "dick" being censored, but the "gun" censored part have been available at least since 2010 when this video was uploaded:

We don't really have radio censorship where I live, but every now an then some radio station plays a censored version for no real reason and everyone gets confused.

Try listening to The Real Slim Shady, censored version... I also lose track of what he's saying at some point when half the sentences are censored!

So I was listening to the radio on my way home and "Teenage dirtbag" by Wheatus came on. One of the lines in the song is "Her boyfriend's a dick, he brings a gun to school.".
I remember when this song came out in 2000, the radio stations used to censor the word "dick".
But now, the word in that sentence they censored was "gun".
Says a lot about what has changed in 15 years IMO.
