I find myself incessantly drawn to Dead Rising 2. Something about taping together a couple of chainsaws and tearing through masses of the walking dead just does it for me.
Also Dark Sun: Shattered Lands, from 1993. Can't get enough. :)

34th playthrough?! And I thought I played it alot! XD
Only naming singleplayer campaigns that most people might not consider having replay value: I'd say Half-life series, Metro 2033, Portal 1 (I may have played it 10 times on both the xbox and pc)

I played through HL2: Episode 2 a few times, but I haven't even touched it ever since I carried the gnome all the way to the end...and then forgot to close the hatch on the rocket so I didn't get the achievement (and no, I didn't have any saves to go back to).

If I recall one thing I read once about the people with the most playthroughs of Mass Effect, I actually hold the world record. Unfortunately, about twenty-eight of those playthroughs were on an Xbox with no connection to Live, and Xbox that bricked about two months before I connected it to the internet, so I have no way of proving this. :(

I think I've beaten the eight bosses MM2 about 100 times. Usually I get bored around the time I beat the dragon in Wily 1.

Minecraft and Nuclear Dawn (200+ hours, still freaking awesome!)

People are definitely listing non-Steam games. Personally I'm iffy about including pay-to-play MMOs in this list for 2 reasons.
1) Whenever I pay for a certain amount of time, then I feel obligated to play for that amount of time. This sort of artificially boosts your play time in it. (if I pay for a month of the game, then I'm going to get as much time out of that month as possible)
2) With many MMOs it seems that once you quit, then you don't go back to them. If you do go back to them, then it's usually for 2 reasons: either you couldn't afford it for a while and then were able to come back once you had money, or your friends convinced you to come back. This then artificially boosts the number of times you "keep going back to" the game.
Like I said, these are just my personal opinions/observations.

Max Payne 1
1) It has aged really well, still looks acceptable today imho
2) It's challenging, no health regeneration and that crap, even regular mobster kill you with a few hits
3) I just love the art-style and the humour. My Lord! My Lady! :P
For MP it's Urban Terror: super fast old school shooter, been playing that game since Dez 2007, competitively since Mid 2008

Same here. Sorta. I've gone back every couple of years to see the new maps that people have made. I am disappointed, however, of how much people host DotA. Personally, I never really liked it, not that I have anything against the people who do, but I feel there are many other maps that really great, but are overwhelmed or scarce because of DotA.

Jagged Alliance 2
Total Annihilation
Grim Fandango (oh good, I didn't have to mention it first this time! :))
The Neverhood
Deus Ex
Beyond Good & Evil
Roller Coaster Tycoon (I think I need to reinstall the original... 3rd one's really close, but missing... something.)
Defense Grid
Super Meat Boy (/shakes fist)
and Team Fortress 2 (duh)

I used to play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 all the time, but it doesn't work so well any more (combination of issues with newer computers and the disc being old). I'm so excited about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD this summer.

Yeah, me too. It'll be awesome if they release THPS HD on pc. I grew up on THPS :D, whole THPS serie means much for me. I started with the THPS2, i had to buy new graphic card for my Pentium II 233Mhz to run this game :D. Then the THPS3, it was great as well, over 1000 hours in this game as well. And then I stuck with the THPS4. I played the THPS:U2 aswell, i unlocked all levels two times, but it wasn't so good, so I went back to THPS4...
Btw, the THPS2 have the best key mapping, i played all other THPS with this key mapping ;-)

What game have you played the most and why?
For me, it's Mass Effect. I'm currently nearing the end of my thirty-fourth playthrough wih a thirty-fifth starting immediately afterwards (and a thirty-sixth and seventh planned for the future). I don't really know why I play it so much, but I can't get enough of it. I even love the Mako (thereby securing myself a place in hell, I know). At an average of 17 hours for a full playthrough, I've dedicated 578 hours (24 days) of my life to this game. BioWare, why are you sucking up my lifeforce?
