... that people say "this game is awesome, you must play it" and after I play it for few hours that game is just not that great for me. It happened with HL2 (go, shoot and kill, pick up ammo and health, repeat for whole game(unless there is something really innovative that changes this gameplay)). Now I'm like 3 hours into first Bioshock and I have to say it's not bad game, but seriously I have no idea what people see in it... Maybe one of you can tell me what I should look for? What is so great? Constantly switching between guns/plasmids is really annoying, story so far is not really entertaining, enemies run around like crazy and shoot at you from places you sometimes can't even see.
Am I too old for games and I can't enjoy them anymore or those two are really overrated? Thanks for your thoughts and opinions.

I hate almost everyhing that's popular with other people too, but I like HL2 though. Haven't played enough of Bioshock, but I hate switching the arms too. As far as I know they fixed that in the second one.

They didn't change the "plasmid selection system" in the second one. In fact, they made the second game worse because now there's no such thing as a two handed weapon. I personally never had issues with selecting the different plasmids in either game.

They're not overrated. They're great in their own aspect. But I believe you are suffering from something that's called "overhyped expectations" (very scientific term). You constantly hear people praising a game, it's on top of every chart, and of course your expectations will be way too high. I can say that Bioshock is indeed one of my favourite games because the weapons and plasmid system is varied (I agree, it was annoying to switch between them for me too at first, but you get used to it or just focus on either of the two). What made Bioshock so strong were, especially for me, the Audio Diaries that pieced together the story of the whole thing. It wasn't something that was entirely new, but a lot of other games soon tried the same thing (Space Marine, Red Faction: Armageddon) but failed ultimately. The gameplay was solid, the atmosphere was great, the story (and especially the way of conveying that story) was superb. You have to give games a chance sometimes, go into it with 0 expectations preferably. A good way is to ALWAYS assume that a game is overrated. Then you can see for yourself.

For Bioshock it was the story that drew me in.

I don't know what, maybe you need to look to something else? I really enjoyed first bioshock for the great atmosphere that remind me of Orwell's 1984, altough is set in a different time. Also I really enjoyed the story, maybe not so deep, but entertaining. I really loved some parts of it. What annoy me is the gameplay, that is a bit "rough" in my books... but after all for me is one of the best games I've played.
Same story with Half life 2. Great emphasys on the settings, very good story and a fun gameplay. Also, very long for modern standars (10+ hours of game) and a level design that I didn't saw on a fps from a very loooong time.
So probably, is just a matter of tastes, maybe you should look to some indies, or other genres. Consider also retrogaming. The nice thing about modern times is that we can choose between many different games, and the choice is up to you, so just look for something else, or try replaying them whitout focus on what other are saying. Just play for yourself.

P.s. Sorry for not perfect english, I'm trying to improve, so, tell me if I had made any mistake ;)

It's mostly about the stories. Bioshock has an excellent story with great plot devices and a haunting atmosphere. Half-life's story is very intriguing and they use the silent protagonist element to make it more like you are in the character's shoes. Sure the gameplay is repetitive, but when was the last time you saw anything different with the gameplay of any Elder Scrolls games, or Command and Conquer, or other countless games of different types. For most, it's about how the story is executed, and also how satisfying it is to kill enemies in different ways, or how addicting solving various puzzles to get through to that pesky boss and getting rewarded for those countless hours ou put in

Just wait until the big plot twist in Bioshock 1 happens.

Is it weird that Portal 2 had a similar plot twist clone?

The story listen to the codics as you find them piece the story together of the peoples lives who lived in this world its really rather interesting. Also the ending twist is awesome.

It's interesting that you bring this up. I just so happened to revisit Bioshock again for the first time after I finished it when it came out, and what struck me was the phenomenal audio/visual design. Rapture just feels so much alive and real in a way few game worlds do. And the story is well worth your time. I think the weakest point of the game was that it could have used a little more variety in the enemies department.

+1. Also I feel like there's a little too much padding, but that's just me being nit-picky. At least the padded parts were still beautiful.

I agree. Rapture is a very unique and original setting that's filled with interesting technology. Even the enemies were varied enough in my opinion. The different types of splicers, the various big daddy's. It sucked me in.

Story and setting of Bioshock is the best thing about it for me - made me read it's whole script after the game and then pick up and read through whole "Atlas Shrugged" and watch "Fountainhead". I guess you're just not into dystopian settings shown in HL2 or kinda shown in Bioshock. Either pick up something else or try reading 1984 or something along those lines to get to know and start liking dystopian settings.
