Hey,

I thought it'd be a fun idea for a thread if we all post an image and/or factoid about the weird and wonderful world we live in. For example, one of my favourite 'strange' looking creatures, is the Tibetan Fox. I love the mix of majesty and sheer 'doneness' on his face.

Hit me up with a random weird fact about the planet or anything within or some weird animals (No spiders or insects please, I mean if you really must, but I have a massive phobia.)

You can't talk about animals without talking about the capybara!

My favorite thing about capybaras is the amazing number of hits you get when you Google "capybara animal friends".

Woaaah. Those colours! This is amazing. I'm guessing he's a deep sea creature, from that bio-luminescence.

For me the strangest creatures of all live on the ocean floor.

Woaaah, there's a fair few there I haven't seen before. The ocean is full of horrors, but also beauty.

That Harp sponge is bananas.

Actually, that site is pretty great - I can't seem to get away from it. Suggest you check out the narwhals and koalas while you are there.

Great suggestion, thanks. Really enjoyed those articles (weirdly I knew more about koalas than Narwhals), I have kind of a ridiculous Narwhal story.

I am, generally speaking, a smart person, but one day I turned on the TV and there was a nature documentary and there was a Narwhal. My heart felt like it stopped, up until that moment I genuinely believed they were mythical, or at least extinct. I think this is due to them often appearing in illustrations or cute stuff alongside mythical or magical creatures like the unicorn and griffin.

Can you imagine that moment? Seeing live video of something you thought wasn't real...I don't know if I'll ever have that feeling again. So I felt pretty dumb. The hilarious thing is, I called my sister and she thought they were fake too! Pretty funny ^_^;

Much evidence to the contrary, I'm still not convinced that the platypus is not a hoax. I will have to see one in person and tug on its cute little beak. Don't read the article on otters - apparently, they are jerks

Here is something else to contemplate.

Platypuses (Platypi, platypusses?) are so strange as to seem fake, but I've seen video!

Oh, I know all about Otters! Haha, thankfully I'm the kind of person who is well aware of the cruelties of nature, so I'm never really surprised or disappointed when something cute turns out to be evil. I think in a way, animals are just like people, some are monsters and some can be kind and sweet.

Interesting article!

Most people think snakes are cold and clammy, but they're really quite warm to the touch.
Warning: The gif you are about to view is extremely graphic and violent, and not intended for younger viewers.

Hahaha, thanks :P I actually have my images auto-on, a dangerous game to be sure, as insects are often abound! I don't mind snakes though and I love kitties too!

Snakes feel really nice to me! At least from what I remember from touching one when I was younger, very smooth and pleasant and not slimy at all like some people think.

That kitty is an A plus hunter, doesn't even need the paws!

I love him <3 He's one of my faves for sure. Though as a rule, generally rodent's dislike me, If I ever meet one of these as a pet, I will try and pet him. (I don't pet wild animals as they usually don't like it, but often these guys are kept as pets)

The axolotl (also known as the Mexican salamander or Mexican walking fish) looks like such a happy little bugger. Not only can it regenerate limbs, but can also regenerate parts of its heart and brain. Sadly, it's endangered and facing extinction.

I was lucky enough to see one of those in a place in Ontario (Little Ray's Reptile Emporium, they only take animals that would die in the wild or exotic pets that people dumped like this guy and even alligators, so they are a sanctuary.) They are really gorgeous and cool, hopefully they can be saved!
