Download directly from the Humble Bundle site. Problem solved. :P

Suppose I'll go that route...just need to download a proper download manager first.

1 decade ago

Just curious, why do you need a download manager in this day and age?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Perhaps he has slow internet, or throttled internet at certain times of the day, or possibly a bandwidth cap? All of these things, a download manager would help with.

yes, slow throttled internet, daily cap. South African ISP's...

Well I was thinking can't your browser resume incomplete downloads? Unless of course it doesn't do error checking or correction though, which I guess could be a problem.

From my previous personal experience, slow internet + unstable network is usually the case.

A good download manager can resume interrupted downloads. Useful with shit connections, which would be why torrents are preferred.

I've had Firefox resume an interrupted download before, and I would assume Chrome has the same capability, so it's not only about modern internet.

Using torrents saves them bandwidth (and therefore money).

1 decade ago

I'm aware of that, I mentioned it in another comment. However, if it has no seeds, then it doesn't matter, it won't work.

Hundle offers legal torrent download, I guess they don't have enough seeders? Don't really expect many people to use that download option (though it was added specifically after popular demand).

Yes. Someone with sense...

1 decade ago

1 decade ago

Or maybe people just want to leech off seeds then ignore it. Torrents depends on users.

1 decade ago

FUCK!
I was sure Humble is the one seeding them, so I removed them automatically when I finished.
I'll have my +1.00 ratio next time then.

1 decade ago

It's both, Humble has a web seed, but the main point of the option is to offset the strain from their servers by spreading it around.

What's with all the 'oh, please ban him' nonsense? If nobody seeds the humble torrents then people will have to use the direct links and humble will be a sad panda.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You all do realize that the torrent links are directly from HumbleBundle, right? And that the torrent downloads cost them less bandwidth than the direct downloads?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And this thread is the classic example of people who need to remember this simple equation.

TORRENTS =/= PIRACY.

There are legal torrents. He is talking, about legal torrents. Humble bundle provide torrents as an alternative to direct downloads with their site, because this saves them on bandwidth costs, since it is P2P. You still have to pay to access those torrents, and he's just asking you to seed because then it downloads faster.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

^^ this.

Just download direct for now if it's too slow.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Indeed, there are legal torrents of the files. They can also be leaked though.

At this point though, if one of those torrents doesn't have a seed, he won't be able to change it here.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Is it possible to convert the direct download to a torrent so that I can seed it?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not to my knowledge.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They should be the same file, so yes. Just make sure the filename is the same. Open the torrent in your torrent client, point it to the directory with the file/installer and it should start seeding.

It can be faster speeds depending on the seeds, and saves Humble Bundle some money since it isn't downloading from them.

Tell us which ones you want to download. I'll help if I have the games bought and open up max speed for upload (3Mbps, not much but all helps)

1 decade ago

That would be awesome of you! lol. 3mbps not much? My max download is ~400kbps...

I still have Brutal Legend, Alan Wake, Trine 2 Complete Story, Mark of the Ninja and Awesomenauts queued.
Do you have them?

1 decade ago

All but Awesomenouts and downloading them with priority for you. Took Awesomenouts with an other bundle :s

1 decade ago

I have all of 'em, just started the downloads.

EDIT: I'm using uTorrent and nothing will seed. I've a yellow caution sign in the bottom right corner, but when I run the network test I get green check marks. Any ideas? I'm a torrent nub.

EDIT 2: Nevermind, it magically started working after I posted Edit 1.

I downloaded Awesomenauts once and its useless since you can't play online. It uses Steam for networking. The best you can get is 3 players on 1 pc using controllers playing against bots. See here

I'm currently downloading everything I can torrent (though there's some that give me errors, like all of the Mojam bundle). Anyone have any preferences as to what order I download stuff in? I can bump stuff to the top of the queue.

Edit: Never mind. Started hitting the huge downloads, like Brutal Legend. Forgot about those. It's going to very rapidly spiral out of control if I do all of them. I'll do the last three bundles, plus any special requests.

E: Just managed to work things out. Getting Brutal Legend and will seed afterwards.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Last time I checked, Humble torrents had webseeds, which means you always have at least 1 seeder (their webserver). It's possible they removed/broke that though.

Anyway, you could copy the direct download link and manually add it as a webseed. Or get a decent download manager and just use the direct downloads in the first place.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why not use direct download from HB?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If your connection speed is bad enough it makes the larger downloads unstable. If any little thing goes wrong, like you forgot about the download and close the window or some slight error occurs, you have to start all over again. Torrenting them means you can resume later. DD is better for the smaller games, torrenting is better for the larger ones.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Um, the ability to resume a download has existed for much longer than torrents have. Back in the 90s when most people still had dial up people created programs to allow for that. Now it's built into most web browsers.
