+1, Fable 3 fails hard. I loved Fable: TLC, bought its "sequel"...(insert swear-language here)...

Um, Deus Ex Invisible War, probably. (wrote Contract J.A.C.K. but that was a spin-off-kind)
Comment has been collapsed.
Oho, thought someone might mention Invisible War... :)
I don't think it was actually such a bad game. If it had been Generic Whatever: Invisible War, I doubt many people would have complained. But as a sequel to one of the best games ever made, they were doomed. Ugh, what an incredible disappointment. :(

It was bad for a Deus Ex game that is for sure. Though I would not say it was the worse Sequel ever :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, it was MUCH shorter!!! It canonically states that JC was "imperfect"!!! No actual consequences(re:factions)!
Yeah...I guess this qualifies!!!
Comment has been collapsed.
"No actual consequences(re:factions)!"
-> Actually, Invisible War has the biggest consequences in the series. You can lock yourself out of an endings if you piss off the coresponding faction enough during the game.
It's not much, but it's more than the "you completed the game the way you wanted, now press a button to pick an arbitrary ending" that both the original and Human Revolution provide.
It's the worst game of the series, but it's not a bad game in and of itself..
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, what I mean is that the factions take so much crap from the player....but you speak the truth! You can actually alienate them at some point!

Worst sequel to a game ever?
Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons on the Xbox 360.
End of thread. You can all go home.

More like all the Call of Duty games after COD2 (yes, the old one)

Final Fantasy XIII if you count that, otherwise I think about it again, maybe Dragon Age 2?!

Funny. I was one of those weirdos that actually did not mind FFx-2. Not as good as FFX that is for sure, but it was still better than 12 and 13.

I'm not sure how many of these completely qualify under your requirements but Nuts and Bolts, RE6, Bomberman Act Zero, and obviously Duke Nukem Forever.

That was terrible!
I have always been a big fan of C&C, but EA ruined the franchise.
I miss Westwood...

You mean the storyline, ending, setting(era) or character? Please don't say ALL OF THE ABOVE! :D

Can't decide between Final Fantasy X-2 and Fable 3.

Gothic III, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, all today's MoHs and CoDs... Hmmm. Skyrim!

Trully, CS:Source is my personal best. CS is nice but physics are not so nice in here. CS:CZ is for me just like CS. CS:GO is IMHO the worst.

I too agree.......why did they make G-Man "Gordon from the future"???!!!! Why OH WHY????!!!!!!
PS: EA buys VALVe in the future!:(

Rayman 3. It wasn't bad, but it was pretty monotonous in parts.
It also didn't help that after the wonderfully charming, fairy tale style Rayman 2, they suddenly decided they wanted to be Bubsy and fill the game with "attitude" and quote on quote "humor".
Comment has been collapsed.
It was funny as fuck, in my opinion. Although it's possible that it's thanks to Polish translation, which was really special. I also wouldn't call this monotonous, gameplay was quite varied, but hey, to each his own.
Rayman Raving Rabbids was bad, though, I don't know if it's counted as spinoff. Fortunately, Origins is excellent.
Comment has been collapsed.
You know, I'm thinking back on it, and maybe the game wasn't as bad as I thought it was.
I actually did really like it as a kid, although I remember distinctly feeling some of the levels went on too long. I guess even some of the humor was pretty decent (maybe my memory is just a bit clouded by all those random ass bonus dvd thingies in the game).
Maybe I should pick up the game again sometime.

He is still alive in Judgement though ;P
Honestly I had great fun with Judgement and ist still a very good game, but as a sequell (or prequell in this case), its very dissapointing because, it takes a few steps back in quality and just doesn´t feel right.. its more like a "If you like GoW, you might also like this one" kind of thing.. something to suit your apetite, but just not the real thing.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well I'm not sure this counts as a sequel but ..
Syndicate .. EA bought Bullfrog and only used the name. The game has nothing to do with the great classic from the 90s. I got all excited knowing they were making a new Syndicate game then I realized it was simply a cover-up for some shitty game.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yea.. I am kinda afraid of what they might do to the Dungeon Keeper series when EA finally drags that one out of the mothballs.
Comment has been collapsed.
Have you played the first Syndicate or Syndicate Wars?
Here is a big part of the problem. They were squad based RTS games. You had to capture and research enemy weapons while also researching your own tech. You had to capture and brainwash scientists to do said research. You had to keep yourself funded. You had to capture enemy agents to resupply your ranks if any of yours died. There were many branching points on the world map where once you had finished one area you got to choose the next area to attack.
In SW you could destroy the entire map. Literally everything on it could be destroyed and reduced to flaming craters. Cars, trees, skyscrapers, roads, railways, everything. You could even research nuclear grenades but you didn't want to use them unless you gave the agent using them upgraded cybernetic legs so he could run as fast as possible in the opposite direction as soon as he threw one.
You could amass an entire army of brainwashed citizens and use them as meat shields or have them pick up weapons from slain enemies and fight for you.
In short EA took virtually everything everybody liked about the first two games and instead released yet another generic FPS with the same name as something it no longer resembled.
Tell somebody they are going to get to drive one of their favorite race cars and then pull the cover off and reveal a slot car track and they are going to be understandably disappointed and upset even if they normally love slot cars.

I played it and even though there are some nice parts, it always felt to me like the shooting is repetitive and there were too many QTEs, but I loved the trailers and I hope there are more games like this ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
I did .. I consider it a so-so FPS and pretty repetitive.. but the reason I mentioned the EA Syndicate remake is it has nothing to do with what was Syndicate the original. The only thing they really kept is the name to get people like me to buy the game.. sucky move when they had a great classic to build a follow-up on. Mega-Fail from EA on this one.

My favorites, in no particular order.
C&C 4 - Fuck you EA.
Call of Duty - everything after MW2.
Diablo 3 - Path of Exile is what D3 was supposed to be.
Need for Speed Most Unwanted - FUCK YOU EA.
Supreme Commander 2 - Game mechanics too simple compared to first game.
Dungeon Siege 3 - Felt like it was a crappy port. Controls and camera clunky as hell.

Well there is torchlight 2 where even my little pony is darker than that. While playing torch2 I always felt I was in magicland, the first time I killed a monster I tought candy will pop out and rainbows and stuff..Really it all just looked like happy land

Yep, TL2 has some fairyland bullshit adventure color palette. Everything's so bright and shiny, dungeons ain't even scary.
Check out this, makes TL2 for me much more appealing.

Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New world not only was a horrible game for me, but it almost ruined everything I loved about the first one.
Also I liked Bioshock 2 more than the first one, better gameplay, awesome story, but no gamechanging twist.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think Bioshock 2 was a lot more streamlined gameplay-wise (not having to switch between weapons and plasmids is a lot more convenient though some may argue made it too easy) but the story was underwhelming.

He's asking what his opinion is and why. Do you mind curiosity so much?
Comment has been collapsed.
Sure. I'll just go and respond to some comments asking why they don't like the game they have written, just because we don't share the same opinion. Because one simply cannot dislike a game, just because it doesn't fit his taste...
I just don't like how people can't have their own opinion without being questioned every single time...

Bro
He was just curious
"I just don't like how people can't have their own opinion without being questioned every single time..."
It's called conversation. People like to talk and inquire on things that are interesting to them. Maybe there was no reason beyond resonance, or maybe he had an interesting criticism of the game. If it's such a problem to have someone ask you a question about your video games tastes on a video game forum, then why are you even on a video game forum at all?
Comment has been collapsed.
My bad, I meant to reply to js93583. And to answer your question, it really depends on who you ask. In my opinion, shooting is pretty bland and the whole time travel thing destroys Bioshock Infinite's plot.

Its actually both ;)
-----HUGE SPOILERS-----
They jump around in multiple dimensions, but access them in different points in time.. its not like multiple synchone running dimensions and you dont play the "first" Booker the Luteces send over... a lot have come before and failed the task.. I think the dead guy with the bag on his had in the beginning is one one of the Bookers who died and when you die in the game without having Elizabeth around and got to step out of this strange room, I guess its actually another "new" version of booker, getting his brain filled with an alternative past to comprehend the dimension-shift.
While they can´t seem to travel through time within one dimension but change the point of origin to affect all dimensions at once, it must be like some asynchron dimensions running in circles, so the change in one dimension running at an ealier point in time will still have effects on the others.
I was a bit disappointed by the link to Bioshock 1.. upfront they made it sound like it will be something where "it all makes sense", but in the end there is no "real" connection between Columbia and Rapture, they dont even exist in the same dimension. Its still an nice little gimmick for the fans, but storywise it could´ve been any other place just as well.
-----HUGE SPOILERS-----
I actually love all the "Shock" Games by Ken Levine.. they are all great and unique, but its hard to choose a favourite. IMHO System Shock 2 has the superior gameplay-mechanics by far and I love the horror-atmosphere, Bioshock 1 has the best setting and game-world (this includes the story of rapture and its people), Bioshock Infinite on the other hand has the best Story and.. well, Elizabeth! ;)
Both his Bioshock games had also some great disappointments for me, but I think its important to go at it with the right expectations.. I am sure the next Whatevershock will once again miss lots of the things I loved about the previous games, but have its own strong sides as well.. and I will surely love it like hell ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
Well...there is a bit about "a man, a lighthouse and a city"! That's probably the only link between Rapture and Columbia...and any other possible city I suppose! I'm guessing you didn't like that bit!
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, thats what I mean ^^ I actually liked how the used the "Always a Lighthouse.." stuff and all.. and also liked the short visit, but its more of an esoteric connection and, as you said, could be used to link it to anything else, would not have to be rapture.. and that was a bit disappointing. I was hoping to get a connection like how the events in Columbia lead to the construction of Rapture or something in that direction..
But even an indirect connection could be utilized better.. I think when it comes to storytelling in videogames, Ken Levine and Sam Lake are among the best of the best. Sam Lake linked Alan Wake to Max Payne in an indirect way by making Alan the author who made his fortune with his novels staring the fictional charakter Max Payne (named "Alex Casey" in the game). An author always writes things about himself into his charakters, if you read between the lines, and Alan himself starts linking himself to Max/Alex throughout the game.. much of it is rather subtile, but playing Alan Wake gives the charakter of Max Payne a lot more dephts and playing Max Payne (MP2 at least) adds a lot more dephts to Alan Wake, as you see more and more facetts of both characters.. I guess I just had my hopes up a little bit too high that Ken Levine would utilize the Link between the Bioshocks just as great as Sam Lake did with his games.. but it was more like a little nice gimmick.

Command and Conquer Red Alert 3. Just ruined the Red Alert series. It was meant to be a pure army game, but they decided to bring in aliens, like the hell?
Assassin's Creed 3.

i think he;s confusing RA3 with tiberium wars for which his complaint would be valid, personally i liked c&c3 and RA3, not as much as the previous games in their respective series but they were ok, c&c4 on the other hand i managed one mission i think and decided it wasnt for me
Comment has been collapsed.
Tiberium Wars should have aliens, cause the predecessor Tiberium Sun already has them.
Personally, I find RA2 and the sequel Yuri's Revenge to be the top spot, followed closely by Tiberium Wars.
Above Tiberium Wars, the games started to suck. For example, in Kane's Wrath, having a "strategy"-type mode just ruins RTS, which is what C&C is about.
Then for RA3, they killed Einstein, one important character in the RA series. The graphics also looks like as if it went a step back from C&C 3.
As for C&C 4, having different classes sucks. While it looks promising on paper, it's not practically. EA should have just left all units available.

Mine would be Jak 2. I'm actually playing it now on the PS3, because I hate myself (and I already finished it many years ago on the PS2).
What's yours?
PLEASE NOTE! For the game to qualify, it must be a proper sequel - not a spinoff, spiritual sequel or something. I'd also appreciate if it's the first sequel in a series, though that's not entirely necessary.
