American Express gift card or Visa gift card

Visa is better you have more chance to pay trough it than american expres

i've used a visa before and it worked pretty well on all sites based in the US. it didn't work on bundlestars and gmg though.

Visa is accepted is more places.

Why pay more for American Express when it's not accepted in as many places as Visa is.. go with Visa which is cheaper and more widely accepted.

Visa is everywhere you wanna be.

American Express costs the store you use it to buy from more money.

Prepaid giftcards are tricky sometimes. Just because a site says it takes a visa, MasterCard, or American Express CREDIT CARD, doesn't always mean it will take the gift cards. I speak from experience. Yes, I know you didn't mention MC, but I am adding this in as an example because MC is as common as Visa and most places take it as well. When I have tried to use the MC thru PayPal, never works, and it is hit or miss on other sites. Visa works, but there have been sites I've used that won't take it, BUT it is useable with PayPal (usually) and that is a way around that hiccup if the site takes PayPal. I have never had any issues with AmEx, as long as the site accepts AmEx as one of the possible credit cards. Gift cards are tricky because they have "X" amount of limited funds and aren't reloadable, whereas credit cards have "unlimited" funds as long as they are being paid off. Think of a gift card as a debit card linked to an account with no overdraft allotment: even 1 cent over gets the charged denied. Because of the limited funds on the gift cards, some sites won't take it despite accepting the credit cards of same name. Another reason some sites won't take them is because that is one way thieves try to grab as much money from stolen credit/debit cards as they can: buy giftcards before the person that the cards belong to realize they're gone, call up card company, and the stolen card is locked down (this is why now, many places only accept cash for giftcards).

I've never had issue with Steam taking gift cards of any company. If possible, see if there is a gamestop or similar gaming store near you that sells steam wallet giftcards, because those have no fees and the money sits in your steam wallet and is useable in the marketplace as well; some Walmarts, Targets, grocery stores, and gas stations sell them too. I have used visa gc on hb without issues. Other sites, I don't know but if you have a PayPal, that is always an option. Also, if it is a card that allows you to register it to your name online, DO IT, because that will open up a few sites, because the card itself sometimes has built in online restrictions if not registered.

Don't know about prepaid cards, but I have 2 credit cards: a Visa and an American Espress, and everybody accepts visa unlike the amex that I only use for paypal.
