Don't several US and Korean cities get gigabit fibre?
Still, I won't be getting any higher than 50mbit for a while yet on account of living in a small town :(. Have been promised ~300mbit within the next 4 years which is awesome.
Could be worse!

I'm in Chattanooga, TN in the US. We were the first city in the US back in 2010 to get gigabit. As of last year we are the first city in the world to have 10 gigabit available to every household in EPB's service area. And that's 10 gigs up and down :)

Here (Barcelona) there's a provider that offers 1 gb (200 mb upload, though), for the same price (45€) that other providers ask for 50 mb. But their coverage is still pretty bad and doesn't arrive to my home :(

In the Canaries we're lucky if we get 100mb...

Here there are 4 companies that offer 1Gb/s internet + TV + home phone for 20euro and under, at national level. OP's upload tho is very good.

for UK it's pretty good. compared to the village on the arse-end of nowhere where I used to live it's mind-blowingly amazing

80 mbps download/15 mbps upload for Time Warner Cable.

Edit: So OP, how long is the waiting time to download a large game such as GTA V? 5 minutes. :3

Edit 2: The closest thing to your results is when Google Fiber arrives to my area in the future... hopefully.

my actual download speed on a well seeded torrent, is maxed out on 131mb/s
so, if it would download at this max speed all the time, it would take 7,9 seconds to download 1 GB.

how large is GTA V ?

I'm not at home now so I can't test, but I know my upload speed is utter rubbish.
I'll probably get the cheapest fibre optics I can get when my current ADSL contract expires. Need it for when I work from home.

Can't believe it surpasses that of some people in the UK and other more advanced countries.

Many advanced countries laid down the internet lines early and now they are suffering from the slow connections as it would cost a lot to upgrade. This is why second world countries often have insanely fast internet in comparison.

Spain counts as second world?
Because it surely feels like a third world country when it comes to, well, everything (which makes it even more surprising that I got those results).

Per definition Spain is actually a first world country.

Spain is first world, although thanks to Franco, it is… a complex subject. Just like how the junta made Greece a complex subject.

Not currently, my max speed should be 100/100, but they'll upgrade to 1000/100 or 1000/1000 at some point in a not too distant future.

I'm paying Comcast (ugh, evil) for 75 Mbps, but my actual speed is a little less than 12. Ugh.

Permalink

Isn't that in violation of the contract?

Permalink

Probably, but it's hard to prove. I'm just downgrading to their 25 Mbps internet only package for now.

There is a company in my city called LightSpeed, which provides 1GB fiberoptic internet for $50/month. As soon as they branch out to my neighborhood, you can bet I'm cancelling Comcast in a heartbeat.
