I'm in need of a new keyboard since my current one isn't working well. Any recommendations, I looking for a mechanical keyboard with a way to control my volume, play, stop, fast forward & rewind my music/videos. Anti-ghosting is a bonus.

edit:

Well I decided to go with a SteelSeries 6Gv2 w/ Red Cherry Switches. I'm just gonna leave this open for a bit longer because my younger brother wants a new keyboard so I figured I'd buy one for him too. Also can someone tell me or link a good article for the color switches. I mostly play TF2 and SC2 and sometimes other fps so I want to know if buying the red switches were a good idea. I didn't realize color matters, i just got it because I like red... my mistake.

Try the IBM keyboard with multimedia controls.

hmm does IBM still make mechanical keyboards? I thought they stopped making mechanical keyboards. You got a link to they keyboard you have in mind?

I'm not too sure about links and such, but I do know that the one I'm using currently is a mechanical one, as in it does make noise for every key you press.

That doesnt mean it is mech. I have heard some loud scissor switch and rubber dome keyboards. OP, dont get the IBM, they use the buckling spring method, not the best to be honest.

I found a similar keyboard to the one I'm using, here is the link.

EDIT: Here is an image of the one I'm using.

I just checked your keyboard isn't mechanical. Unless someone else can prove otherwise. I just quickly searched on several results on google. But it does have the media controls i need.

So it's quite a compromise, but I don't believe mechanical keyboards would last long if the company makes them with slipshod work.

Sidewinder x4. Has antighosting (!), macros, key illumination (4 steps), multimedia keys, easy to clean, looks good. Cons are: its not mechanical, long spacebar (but it's easy to accustom)

I used the x6 for 3 years and even bought the last one at a store as a backup. the first one is still working greatly but I gave it to my brother. Yes I have the new one but what bugs me is why did they discontinue it. I want to buy another one for times to come, I pretty much kill keyboards after a while :P but with these prices I'm better off sulking somewhere and using the one I have like I have a baby fingers. I swear I never used a better keyboard

Honestly, screw media keys. Just use a media player with good hotkeying or create macros or something. Get a Filco. Do you even know what switch type you like? Most people like black or red for gaming, but personally I went for brown since I program, I still need it to be awesome for that, and brown is a good compromise, but having tried them all, my favourite anyway. Here is an example of awesome: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=74408

If someone wants multimedia keys, let them have them. Why screw the keys?

Because he is going to by an inferior product for the benefit of one feature. Its like buying a tricycle that has a spoiler and is made of cow manure instead of buying the one made from aluminium.

Not all the keyboards are inferior like you say they are. Some are actually pretty good.

Are they made by Filco? No? Well Filco makes the best, so this is a dead end.

I recommend this. At least it's something I really hope to get soon. It seems like a great keyboard. One of the best mechanical keyboards. No anti-ghosting unfortunately. That seems to be more of a digital keyboard feature.

I have tried out the SS 6GV2, Razer BlackWidow and BlackWidow tournament edition, a Corsair K90 and my current SteelSeries 7G.
From what I've seen/felt 7G blows the others out of the water with just the tactile feedback alone. Even the 6Gv2 is better than the Razer stuff.
If you can afford it, go for the 7G. It doesn't have backlights and LCD displays and stuff, but oh boy it kicks ass :D

Logitech G110

Has separate mute mic, mute headphones and mute sound buttons + scroll wheel volume control + play/pause, stop, fast-forward and rewind buttons. Has 12 macro keys along with 4 keys to change between 4 different customised modes that you can set up. Each mode can have its own custom keyboard backlighting colour and custom key functions. Also has a game mode switch which you can flick on and off to disable/enable the windows key and alt+tabbing.

For ~$50 it's a bargain.

Seconded. Very well built for a non-mechanical keyboard, absolutely no issues.
They make a slightly better one (G510 I think?) that you may want to look at as well.

I would tell you what I’m using but I just picked up some cheap random one at a small local electronic store. I'm sure you could get one for about 15 bucks if you just look around at stores near wherever you live. If I find the box (if I haven't thrown it out) I’ll be sure to post whatever I have.

I have a random genius keyboard i payed 15$ 2 years ago. It has audio/video control, but i sadly don't know the model. EDIT: It might be slim something, ill google it. EDIT2: It was horribly easy to find. This is it. It serves me fine, but i don't do anything professional, don't know what you need it for

ANY RAZOR KEYBOARD

If you had seen my post about Razor keyboards, you wouldn't have posted this crap of a post. Razor is the worst brand to buy gaming mice and keyboards from.

1 decade ago

Comment has been collapsed.

Honestly, Razer technical capabilities and precision are damn good (I am talking about mice). I have had several Razers and none of them did let me down from the technical point of view. However, their build quality totally sucks, as for me each of their mice lasted for somewhere between 6-12 months. I find that unacceptable as for such a high price. So now I'm a happy Steelseries Xai user - so far so good.

I use a CM Storm Quickfire Pro. It's pretty nice, it's got Cherry MX Brown switches and N-key rollover through USB. Only a portion of the board lights up though, which is unfortunate but it's not that bad. It's really durable too, my cat spilled an entire glass of water on it and it still works perfectly fine.

Anyway OP, why do you need a mechanical keyboard? You really don't need it so that it can last maybe 1-2 years longer than regular decent keyboards you can buy today.

Ya I know i could go with a regular keyboard but I just wanted to try a mechanical keyboard to see if I like it. I can't say I'd prefer a regular keyboard if I never tried mechanical. So ya.

If you want a mechanical board that has media controls, I would recommend going with a Ducky Shine II or Cooler Master Trigger. Those are solid boards and you can choose what switch you want.
