As mentioned in the title, the Myst Collection has reached a historical low:

Myst 25th Anniversary Collection

That's a pretty good price for a bundle for seven (I assume) long games. As someone who really like these old point & click adventure games (even the old graphics is quite endearing), is it really worth it to buy these games? I heard they can be a bit confusing at times, but I don't mind difficulty as long it's fair.

Sadly I never played the games, but Riven should be the most difficult game of the series after all what I have read about the game.

Ahh, game sequels almost always like to turn up the difficulty for some reason. Well, as long as it's doesn't involve researching extremely obscure subjects that only one person in the world has mastered then it's fine.

True. eventually because the Devs think, that this makes the game better, who knows?

Maybe there are other people her, who can say a bit more than me about the games.

I would never compare Myst to f.e Space Quest 5 or Sam and Max, those are point and click adventure games, Myst, Riven etc are puzzle games, both 2 different genres.

Why not look at the majority of the reviews? These games consist of lots of walking around, some might say beautiful surroundings, and a puzzle here and there.

Weird, I can see the collection when I search for it on steam but when I click on it I get redirected to the main store page instead. When a bundle isn't available in my region they usually don't show up in the search.

Could someone tell me what is the proper order (story-wise) to play these games? And what's the difference between Myst: Masterpiece Edition and realMyst: Masterpiece Edition? Is it just a remake?

Ok, so:
Myst = 2D game; realMyst = 3D game; same story, but realMyst has a bonus chapter
Playing order = Myst > Riven > Myst III > Myst IV > Myst V
URU is a spinoff featuring another storyline

There's also the physical books the game creators wrote that fit into the world of Myst while telling new tales. Myst: The Book of D'ni, Myst" The Book of Ti'ana, Myst: The Book of Atrus. You might also be able to find them in one volume as The Myst Reader.

Thanks for the reminder, I actually have The Book of Atrus on the shelf. :-) From what I see on the wiki, it's a prequel to the whole story. So is it a good idea to read it before playing the game, or will I miss the context?

I would play at least the first game and probably Riven as well since iirc that first book came out after the second (or third) game and touches on the backstory of characters introduced or met in Riven.

Thank you for the heads-up! I own most of these on CD, but never finished 4 (or was it 5?) and on. Might be time to revisit these classics!

You're welcome!
I haven't played them. Back in the days I always wanted to, but never had the time. But you mentioned the CD's - I think, that I have one part on CD, too. Has to be Myst III.

True, but the new game didn't exist for the 25th birthday of the series. :) Besides that, it is way too new I think.

Played the first ones at the day, I still have the Cds around, and they're superb games. Lost track of them after the third one, but the bundle is a really good price if you're interested in them. Thanks for putting attention towards it.
By the way, if any of you like the story, going on the books will be quite enjoyable. I read them ages ago and they were pretty good (plus consistent with the game story).

Seems to be a problem in some regions. You have to search manually, then you should find it.
