Also what would you maybe call a revamped V.A.T.S. system (I know the word system is redundant since V.A.T.S. stands for.. oh never mind)

Ranger mode? Sage mode? Spirit mode? Ancestral mode? Eagle/Eyesight mode? Bullet-time mode... haha lol..

Any comments and/or feed back be it positive negative or crazy or total randomness or otherwise will be always highly appreciated.

Thank you and thank you for taking your time for reading this and for the lotr fans.. Galu

edit: also because nostalgia for my older generation is always nice

Would you play a fantasy based/themed game in a 'lotr' styled world with fallout 3+ mechanics?

View Results
Yes, yes I would
No, not really
Maybe, it depends
Fantasy is not my thing
Why not make it sci fi or more futuristic.. fantasy is old..
I prefer and/or like the already set and made up post apocalytpic fallout universe
No, I don't play fallout type games
No
As long as it doesn't suck or is too repetitive like Shadow of Mordor
As long as it is does suck and is as good and as awesome as Shadow of Mordor
only if it is free.. cause I am so poor
"Keep walking smooth skin..."
"Me take your job because me smarter"
"Me shoulder"
"Me pet aminals"
"I is scientific"
"You no ask"
"Pizza."
tl;dr
Potato

I would answer if I understood your question. o.o

Re-phrased simply would you play as a Legolas type character with slow motion bow and melee fighting animations set in a Lord of the rings style universe.. with fallout or maybe skyrim-esque mechanics.. e.g. skill points/stats/attributes/perks/inventory/dialogue/freetravel/openworld/etc

if you need more information or simplification just let me know..

If the levelling / skill system were complex enough and the open world wasn't just an empty expanse that you trod through from quest to quest, hell yes!

...however, there is a reason we don't see many indie games with huge open worlds, they are a LOT of work.
As for the name of your VATS, I would just call it Focus to keep things simple.

I know. This stuff takes time and if I am going to decide to make it, it will be worth the wait most defnitely. I don't like anything that is below or sub-par either.

V.A.T.S ..Focus...its all been done before, as for the open world business, take a cue from Far Cry 4, if you want to do open world, you have to give the expansive illusion...i.e..Karma quests and Arms highjacking all over the place...you can't wander far ffrom an outpost without running into either..Skyrim is good for open world gameplay, but without mods a lot of this open world is exploration and sometimes being attacked by bad guys or dragons

It depends, personally i would have to wait for some gameplay trailers...(actual gameplay, not a trailer full of cut scenes)..to be able to make that call

Hmm true that. I am just in concept stages for now. It is either I follow Brian Reynolds footsteps and try to make a new revolutionary RTS games set in either historical or a fictional world or go down the Bethesda route and try to create something magical or fantastical via a newer more updated Skyrim or Fallout route. Best case scenario = this will take 10-15 years solo

On that kind of timescale, your project will be outdated by the time it releases. Projects that progress too slow are often doomed to continually need converting or upgrading to new engines to keep with the times, or accept the fate of being way behind the curve.

While I don't think you're serious about this, and are just daydreaming aloud, I would still suggest getting a team together and building it with a pre-existing engine specially designed for such open-world stuff (like maybe a total conversion mod of something). Otherwise, I hope you know how to do some hardcore coding, because 'having an idea' will never be enough to get a stranger to do absurd amounts of work for free.

I know it is or was a way over estimation as are most of my things and guesses. I know that I will never be accurate or right on point. Rather I just try to ball park it. Over under here comes the thunder. I know like all things this is just a guesstimate and mostly wishful thinking that will hopefully ultimately accumulate to something. Worst case scenario I get some of my thoughts and ideas and questions out in the open and answered maybe and out of the way. Yes, I know dw. Times move fast and so does or do rather engines. Trust me I know. I have been following this scene very closely for quite some time. My fear is now is because I have absorbed so much and reached my what I believe is my critical mass, is that if I don't do something about it.. all these years of studying and close scrutinizing and learning and experiencing.. will or would have been in vain.. and then that means that I will just have to be ready for a complete over haul or set up of a completely totally new way. My vision for now can only see so far and reach so wide. Who knows maybe I will just transition first to making full blown story and content then transition back into the 3d modelling and game mechanics of the things.. but just for now it is true and what you say.. just an idea.. just still a day dream.. hehehe

Yeah, I mean, are you seriously considering building something that big? Sounds like a pretty hefty project for one (or a few) person(s) to create.

If you have lots of free time and mad skills though, I guess anything is possible, heh.

My thoughts exactly. If something as simple as a name is this much of an issue then it doesn't bode well for the game itself.

That is pretty much it. I have the whole world to myself right now in this point in time of my life and I want to use it to make something great and/or something that will last. My passion is technology and gaming for the moment. Before this it used to be spirituality and philosophy. Worse comes to worse this is just a fad or a phase that I am going through. But before I pass it I want to give it a shot like all things, mainly so I don't regret it much much down the road later when this dream becomes completely an impossibility on my behalf.

May I recommend starting with something smaller?
If you really want to do this, you should probably start with a smaller project, and build your way up to what you set out to achieve.

If you plunge directly into something bigger than you can handle, you'll lose patience/hope and abandon the entire thing without bothering to try again. A developer once said that on a forum, and it really made me realize how true that was. Too much work for your capabilities will overwhelm you quite quickly.

Either ways, good luck!

What it should be called depends on how meaningful you want the name to be, and that would in turn depend on the lore, focus and theme of our game and it's world.

The OP means a shiney new name for a V.A.T.S type system, not a name for the game...Which, with the release of "Notgtav", proves that a name is almost meaningless

I know, but depending on the game's theme, lore, focus and such, it can be the difference between "Timey-stoppey-shooty-boppy", "Time Dilation System", "Arcane Time-seal", "Chronos Eye" and "Adrenal Reflex".

Ultimately I think there is no 'cooler' new way to put it as V.A.T.S really is a one of kind thing and mechanic. It's closest only real relatives are Sniper Elite's bullet time mechanics and Max Payne's I forgot the name I think it was also called bullet time mode mechanic.

In all seriousness, you should rather focus first on creating a solid basis (what's the game title, what's the background story and so on) before searching a name for a gimmick... an appropriate name might just come along the way. But these are just my two cents, do what you want.

Well, that's commendable. But you should consider that even AAA devs are happy to stick with work in progress titles (afaik Mass Effect was named last minute, beforehand it was just called Sci-Fi game)- so if you're going to develop a game, you shouldn't waste your energy with names. Anyway, good luck with your project brainstorming..

If you want my vote on the matter I think you should give it your best shot. It can't hurt too much to put in a bit of effort into a project and it sounds like you have enough ambition to at least start something up. So go ahead, see how you feel about truely making a game. If you enjoy it than great you have a new hobby that you can have fun with, but if you don't like it than that's simply it. We're not forcing you to make a game, nobody is doing that, this is your project so if you want to see it come to life or fade away as a dream is entirely up to you.
