Hello everyone,
You may or may not have seen me on Steamgifts. The last few months were very hectic and recently I've received some great news that it all paid off. It was a difficult journey filled with challenges, obstacles, and failures. However, I kept trying and I never gave up. In the end, things worked out great. Thus, I would like to celebrate this great accomplishment (more on that later) by having a small train.

Quick question about region restrictions. If I buy a game directly through Steam and gifted later to a winner, does it have a region restriction? If so how can I know in advance which games are region-restricted (I live in Canada)

Thanks for the train, and i'm glad everything went well for you , i'm curious about the story

For your question, yes there definitely are region restrictions in steam directly. There was a thread about it recently, i'll try to find it back

Edit found it here

I'll probably create a new discussion next week and give all the details :) maybe with a bigger train with unbundled games? 🤷‍♂️
Thanks for the info about region restrictions.

Since that thread is closed, I can't ask there. I'm curious, is it a 1-way or a 2-way restriction? That is, can more expensive regions send gifts to less expensive ones?

Gifting from more expensive regions to less expensive is always feasible. Its only the opposite that has a restriction in place so as not to abuse the regional pricing.

Ah, that makes sense. Thank you!

I did not encounter any issue so far, as i'm located in Europe.

but as xxxka said here, you are mostly safe when gifting to countries where games are less expensive.

Edit: sorry, i answered directly from my inbox, and did not see that Almostn33t already did.

No problem. Thank you for the confirmation. I was simply wondering if it's the price difference itself that's a barrier (both lower and higher being a problem) or as mentioned, a measure against exploiting lower prices. Now it's clear.

You can check out game you want giveaway at steamdb and look if it has green or red % numbers for some regions. To reds you can't gift

I'll be on the lookout for that. Thanks :)

Thx for the tip. Although I believe it has to be more than a 10% price difference, so the ones in red under 10% should be ok?

I rather remove from giveaways all reds, I think it is 5%

I couldn't find an official steam faq rule for this strangely, but every source I've looked on the internet says it's 10%

Yeah, I tried to search it also and found only redits with 10%. But I already got one unrecieved for region restriction, so I would prefer not risk triggering ban for fake giveaways :/

Region restrictions aside, there is also a lock for gifting from a (far) cheaper region to a more expensive one. I think the threshold was 10 %? Though, living in Canada it is unlikely for this problem to occur.

That's not always true, more than a few times the price in Canada is over 10% lower than here in a € paying country. And there are a lot of users from those countries here at sg.

I'll most likely create a new discussion next week to explain everything, but yeah the key to success is to always perceive and never give up no matter how great the setback is.

Congrats on the successful journey. When you are working hard for something, it's the best feeling in the world to get good news in the end.

If there's something I learned it's that you can always emerge victorious no matter how hard or how impossible the current situation looks. The most important part is to always believe in yourself, keep your faith, make a plan, and see yourself "out of that situation and in a successful environment". Once you have that vision, face every obstacle thrown at you and never give up no matter how difficult it gets.

That's partly true, but some situations you can't ever get out, like f.e a financial situation or physical issues, i know the whole positive routine, and not complaining, just saying some situations you can hope and work on them that it gets better, just that others are more beyond your control.

It's always good to hear about someone struggling and then winning. It's a reminder that it is absolutely possible.

Exactly. Sometimes it feels impossible, but you must always perceive and follow the plan. By never giving up and staying focused, you are bound to succeed.
