Sometimes i look through profiles of fellow sg users and wonder where they got this one cool giveaway and i click on it and boom:"
You do not have permission to view this giveaway, since you are not a member of the required Steam groups."

I mean ok, i cant enter it because i am not in the group but why cant i see the name of the group and maybe get a chance to enter the groupt to participate in that cool giveaways? Is it possible and i am just not seeing it or is this a real thing?

If someone can help me that would be nice.

Hi :)

ESGST is a SG user script with many, many options for this site... + the option to see the groups from gibs...

I had mouseover before but now I let it load the groups so its visible directly. But how can it load groups when you cant even enter the giveaway was my point :)

i think groupname or id is still in sitecode and the script just reads it out or something like that... i don't think the group info is hidden on a complex way, just not shown as element...

Normally I'm using an option which shows it under the GA, but now I switched to the hover option. When try it on a GA I can access a popout appears with the list of the groups. When I try it on a GA I can't access a popout also shows up, but there's only "An error occurred" message.

I'd assume that it's thought as privacy for the groups. And I agree to that, because not all groups were founded just for SG and probably many groups don't want to get invitation requests only due to giveaways.

i understand that. if these group just want a selective group and dont want to get spammed they could make it invite only or write it in their description.

make it invite only

Except that you can either make an invite only giveaway or a group/whitelist giveaway, so group giveaways are always public.
So that would have to be changed first.

People don't respect this. I used my own steam group for some Christmas giveaways, and it was invite only, but some people made giveaways including other groups, and the amount of people who just randomly sent invite requests to my group was staggering. Even though it said, in large letters, on the group front page, what the group was about and how to get in. It was a hassle. Now imagine if this was open to "everyone", not just people who happen to be a part of these groups.

It's to keep people from harassing or spamming groups for membership.
It forces a bit of selectivity over just trying to leech all their gibs.

You used to be able to do this, but they changed it, and it's a good change.
