I had a short conversation with a few people about the whole 'PC Master race' and such. I dont really get why people divide up consoles gamers and PC gamers'. Yes okay sometimes PC can have better graphics and run faster but some of the best games ever made where for console only (Legend Of Zelda and such). I just don't really understand why it has divided up. Both PC and Consoles both do what the gamer wants, to play games on them, so why divide us up? I myself have a few consoles, including a Gamecube, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, Wii & a GBA. I also play on my PC sometimes. What do you guys think of this? Please do share your thoughts :D

How can you experience the reason behind other peoples actions? This sounds like something just made up in your mind.

The PC platform is not limited by hardware restrictions when designing or playing games, so in that sense it certainly is superior. It's obviously not as convenient though. I've been a Nintendo guy too and I love the Zelda games like you do and think they are amazing, but if you put them on a PC think about how much more they could have done. It's only now that they have starting talking about a more open-world Zelda game and it's because it just wasn't feasible before with what they had to work with. If it were a PC title it would have already been done years ago.

Another reason why PC and consoles see a division is because there usually is not cross-platform play, and in the situations where there is the PC side of things generally suffers for it. PC gamers hate that, and with good reason. Also, console versions of titles often seem to be 'dumbed-down' or limited in some way, whether it be framerate, graphical fidelity, or gameplay design-wise. This is another thing that contributes to divergence.

I don't hate consoles per se but I dislike the fact when games come out on multiple platforms pc is going to have a crappy port 8/10. I used to have a ps2/ps3/psp/super nintendo/Gbc/gba but consoles evolved from local coop/multiplayer have fun with your friends to online multiplayer with kids & trolls. Online multiplayer isn't enough of a reason to continue buying another console for me, as for exclusives there are none that interest me at all.

I was raised on consoles ((S)NES, GBC first <3). Gave my PS3 away and got on my POS laptop.
Objectively, PC is superior; because of things like console exclusives, there's no reason (objectively) to not have both and just be one set of "gamers" - because of things like money, a preference is subjectively necessary (objectively).
It cannot be mistaken that both aren't relevant, just like it cannot be forgotten that, technically, PC supercedes and, if such things as exclusives (struggle to think of anything else... not even "a controller" anymore xD) weren't, we would be one "gamers." On PC.
shrug pick a side or don't, 's'whatever :P

I play on whatever the game I want to play is released on. Sometimes I have it on multiple systems eg Diablo 3. I enjoy playing with some friends on the PC but I have trouble with the amount of clicking so spend solo time on the ps4 version.

PC/Console Master Race is just for stupid people who need to feel big about themselves.

Background: I got my allowance in quarters back in the day and spent it all at the arcade. Video games have been in my blood almost as long as I've been alive. I got a 2nd hand Atari 2600 with some games when the ColecoVision was out, which tells you that while we weren't poor, my mother had to choose what to spend money on. Long story short, I had an Atari 2600, a ColecoVision, an Intellivision II, chose the NES over the Sega Master System, and then an SNES. By that time, my Apple IIGS was on the way out so no new games were being made for it (salute to Accolade and SSI for years of great games on the Apple II line).

You might think after all that I'd identify as a console gamer.

I am, primarily, a PC gamer.

Why? All you can do on a console, historically, is play games. On my PC, I can do so much more. And, trying to play an FPS on a console is enough to make me rage and cry (Killzone 2 anyone?). Give me a keyboard and mouse any day. Also, consoles aren't really portable. It's not like you can get a laptop version of a console if that makes any sense. Also, console games seem to be a lot more expensive than PC games... or maybe I just don't know how to properly shop for console games. Also, you can upgrade your PC with new parts. Can't really do that with a console. Of course, consoles do cost a bit less... as they can do less...

That said, I've owned an Xbox One for about a week, and my PS3 I've had since Fall of 2009. Oh, and my Wii (the old one, not the U one) is still plugged in and hooked up. Had that, what, over a decade?

I have to say, the Xbox One is really starting to bridge the gap between console and PC gamers. It runs, basically, a version of Windows 10 from what I understand, and it interfaces with my Windows 10 machines really well. Like, I can stream an Xbox One game to my Windows 10 PC. I don't know why I would WANT to, as the Xbox gets the HDTV and my PC gets the two small 24" monitors... I don't know about the PS4. Not really interested. I wouldn't have gotten the Xbox if it wasn't for a really good deal on Woot that came with games and a Kinect for an amazing price...

Anyway. Why the rift between PC Master Race and "Console Peasants"?

Attitudes. I never got an Xbox in the past because it was basically the console of the "Dudebro." You know... MADDENCALLOFDUTYEFFYOURMOMDOYOUEVENCONSOLEBRO?!

Yeah. We all know about the armchair Madden jocks that talk like they're actually playing the game in real life.
Yeah. We all know about the profanity laden, headset wearing, I'll take the trash out in a minute mom little shits that act like idiots on Xbox multiplayer games.

They're giving the normal, socially well-adjusted console owners a bad name, IMO.

I don't know about you, but I don't have time to deal with that pre-pubescent (even if they're in their 30s) bullshit when I'm trying to have fun playing a game. Consoles have gotten better, though, in putting out games that don't cater to just one demographic... and that's FANTASTIC.

If we could all come together in our love for video games, and socially shun the negative aspects of our gamer society regardless of platform, it would be nirvana. But, I don't see that happening...

... not when, as multiple people have said, developers are treating one or the other as the red headed stepchild. Crappy console ports on PC is enough to make me cry, too, and there's no good reason for it.

I'm a PC gamer, but sometimes I put on console peasant clothes, and IDGAF what anyone else thinks.

There's no need to divide people up necessarily, but I have kind of divided myself up. I do own some older consoles, but I don't use them. PC only for me right now. Looking back, I've usually only ever done thing at a time.

80s - wanted a computer when Spectrum, C64, Atari ST, Amiga were popular. Had a less famous one but it was all I gamed on.
90s - Got a NES and then I stopped being interested in gaming on computers altogether. Played on consoles most of this decade.
2000s - Got a PS2 but had generally lost interest in gaming and found enough entertainment in browsing the 'net and some online poker
2010s - needed a new laptop, saw Skyrim was coming out, thought it looked good so I bought a lappy that could handle it.

I suppose I see PC as the better platform as a general entertainment box, and that's where and how I got back into gaming again. Was already using it for entertainment then started gaming again on it. Now I have more PC games than I'll ever play in my lifetime thanks to Steam and bundles I don't feel the need to get a console at all.

To me it feels like a basic flaw of human psychology.
(Flaw or quirk, depending on how you look at it.)

We apparently can't just be happy with what we got and with what we enjoy.
The basic urges in the current mindset are that you need to have more/be better etc than the other person.

So instead of being happy with your console/pc games and letting the other be happy with their choices, it needs to be a battle as to what is better. Cause [sarcasm] we surely would not want both sides to be able to enjoy their games equally as much without bashing the others brains in [/sarcasm]

Excuse me, did you read the article I provided? Modern consoles are basically poorly made PCs. You now can get a PC that performs as well as consoles for less money, or slightly more performance for the same amount of money, or much more performance for a bit more money. Besides, PC games are so much cheaper to buy that even a high end PC will undercut a console within a year.

no it was too long & seemed rather self righteous. In my country you can't really get a pc cheaper, there is more than just game performance aspect when talking about computer gaming. like i said before i gave examples of things that are better than PCs they don't outperform modern consoles in every aspect otherwise why are people buying them if that ain't the case?

Please note that the article points out that you're being educated rather than scolded. It's true that past consoles used to outperform past PCs, but nowadays people are buying consoles not because consoles are better, but mainly because of propaganda or because they want the console exclusive games. Here's an extract from the article. I hope it would encourage you the read the full article:

"It's well-known that past consoles outperformed PCs, but that was the past. This is now. Things are different. The openness of the PC was bound to be taken advantage of eventually, and what triggered it is the stagnation of the console market. And, now that the console market has stagnated and the PC is a viable alternative, it's very possible that traditional consoles with total control under a single corporation is entirely going to vanish. Sony and Microsoft give you an inferior system, charge you a lot of extra money for it, and make you hold on to the pieces of junk for 8 years before they give you the option of (measly) upgrades. By selling you these systems, they lock you into their overpriced ecosystem, helping them further the cycle with their ill-acquired money. They don't let you play with friends unless you pay. They don't let you play with friends that bought the other systems at all. They don't let developers directly sell you the game -- they charge for dev kits and include royalties, which massively decreases their profits over that of the PC version. When you take into account the business strategy of these companies, you'll find that it's all just one big greedy systematic ripoff of uneducated consumers. They're holding your favorite games hostage on their closed platforms because they know you'll buy into it. If everyone went with a PC and disregarded this disgusting behavior, these developers wouldn't be so easily convinced to support these "next-gen" consoles. So, do yourself and the industry a favor and go with a PC. PC exists because it's an excellent platform and for no other reason than that. Nobody's advertising it. Nobody's cutting deals with Frito Lay to get it stamped on Dorito bags. Nobody's running a 'PC booth' at gaming festivals. PC exists and thrives simply because it is freaking glorious. XBox and PlayStation consoles exist because their parent corporations hijack developers (and games) that people love and cancel ports to competing platforms (other consoles as well as PC), and force fans of these games to pay a 'hardware ransom' to play it. The PC is open, cheap, customizable, and powerful. Your best interests are always at hand, no matter how arrogant some PC gamers may seem when they speak negatively of the "anti-gamer" consoles. For anyone that's offended, I am truly sorry... but if you're going to get offended over this guide then you probably had no intention of giving PC a chance in the first place. Just remember: PC gaming is superior to console gaming, but the gamers themselves are neither superior or inferior to one another: they're just people with varying degrees of understanding. Fight the misinformation, fight the false advertising, and fight the anti-gaming console monopoly."

I read a bit of it before and this is the same just Wank, false statements & very one sided view from a PC "Fan boy" as I said before a PC does not outperform modern consoles in every aspect you even gave example of that console have more marketing & hype for them & they have great games you can't get on PC

I could never play games on consoles. I hate sitting in my living room to play obstructing the TV watching habits of my family. I an simply incompetent with a controller. I can't even play a racing game with the controller without getting annoyed. I play Street fighter better with keyboard than a controller.

The FOV on typical console games gives me migraines. But the biggest reason is my gaming habit. I tend to swap between gaming and doing other things very quickly. I play my games in borderless mode because I can alt tab easily. Then you got things like Gsync, better graphics, mods, etc. Not to mention my most played game is counter strike, which needs a PC.

Finally... I already have a fast PC. no reason for me to spend money only for me to get the inferior graphics in a console. All my game library is on Steam as well.

They disabled some graphical features on purpose, some idiot even commented these lines in the configuration file thinking nobody ever will be able to unpack the data packages.
Not that it matters since almost nobody plays the game now, but it is still an interesting little tidbit on how UbiSoft puts its priorities.

The difference between PCs and consoles are fairly small these days. It's not like how it was back in the 1990s when to play a PC game you needed to configure the sound card and memory settings. Back then getting peripherals for computers was strange too since every one used some different adapter, in the pre-USB days. These days I primarily use my PC for gaming but that's mainly due to space. I own and occasionally use a bunch of retro consoles though.

PCs are generally better for strategy games due to the mouse and keyboard setup, for modding, and for emulating obscure systems like the Commodore 64 or something.

No offense to console gamers... I guess I just have a preconceived notion of console gamer as being more of a social gamer... The console is usually hooked up in the living room to a big screen TV. When someone wants to watch a movie, they might have to find something else to do. They might play, surrounded by friends, beer, snacks and a dog who likes to walk in front of the screen on his way to steal snacks... etc... I picture it as more of a passing phase... Eventually they will either have to buy a more expensive console or find a new hobby, especially if something like children or a non-gaming partner makes claim of their gaming space.
When someone tells me they are a computer gamer, i get the impression they've decided it's a hobby they like and plan to stick with for awhile. They don't need to occupy the whole living room and they don't care about playing in the presence of other people.. Everyone I've known who was a PC gamer years ago is still a PC gamer. Many of my friends who played console and were totally into the Xbox or PlayStation, years ago, are no longer gaming. I think it gets harder, as you become older and have more responsibilities, to make an acceptable argument for having to buy a more expensive console whereas you can make all sorts of arguments for needed an improved PC (which also 'just happens' to be a great gaming machine. :)
At my house we have our personal PC's and a console in the living room to entertain any unannounced company. And I do enjoy the Wii and Xbox - motion / move around type games

I'm a PC gamer now, but I started out with consoles as that's just what we had at the time (and my parents never let me touch computers, because they're Satan or something). For the most part I just joke around with the "PC Master Race" thing as I know consoles have great games as well. Metal Gear Solid 3 is probably one of my favorite games ever and I would have never been able to play it unless I had a PS2.

More often then not it's just d*** measuring contest, but in reality is more then that. Justifying on which platform we spend money is one of most common reasons, for the console owners. PC owners just pissed due the fact console manufactures threat them as 3rd class citizens to protect their property. Most of the people knows that yelling at companies to change their practices is in most cases pointless, so they yell at their consumers, because money speaks louder then words. PC owners generally don't really care if there are consoles or not, just want to be treated with respect they deserve. As long as company develops games for consoles and PC separately, not just porting, we wouldn't care.

I think the "PC master race" thing came out as a joke, but slowly transformed into a lot of people believing it just to have an excuse on why they didn't play the latest good games on consoles.
It's getting kind of stupid in my opinion. PC games keeps saying the masterrace thing while nobody really listens to them. It's like having a group of people going around shouting "I AM THE BEST, YOU SUCK!". The only thing you would do is ignore them.

I love PC games, but I love 3DS games either. I liked every other console I had and I crave for both a PS4 and a WiiU.
I really think there's not an actual split, put PC gamers pretend there is.

Just yet another way for people to run away from their own freedom. Having to forge one's own opinion is so tiring after all, better to just follow some pre-established one. And if one can find comfort by being part of a flock, the merrier. Some even label that behavior as being social, go figure.
It's true on more complicated issues as well as utterly mundane ones, such as the one you are asking about.
Wow, I should insert some sort of joke to make myself a safe exit, in the case somebody argued and busted my being full of it. Done!
